Have you seen the Mystery of Nils book? It's a graded reader combined with a textbook. I would definitely recommend checking it out (you can always skim right past the bits that explain grammar, if you're not into it). You could also try watching shows on NRK Super (there's some stuff available outside of Norway). It's hard to fill the gap between beginner/graded listening materials and the full-on native stuff, though.

You know... I'm not sure. I tend to think of "i stolen" when it's a big chair that is soft and has arm thingies, and "på stolen" when it's a hard chair that you sit on. But there's really no rule. It's just whatever feels right in the moment. Hm. Or maybe you're right. I'm more inclined to say 'ligger på stolen' than 'ligger i stolen'. I guess if it's really small it might be ligger i stolen? (As you can tell, there's probably no rule.) As for "i senga" vs "på senga" I think it depends on whether or not you're under the covers. On top of the covers, I would definitely say på senga. Under the covers: i senga.

Unfortunately, RUclips doesn't provide the option to add subtitles automatically for Norwegian, and there are no free options available. I don't have the resources to pay for a service to do it myself, nor do I have the time to add subtitles manually (it takes at least an hour of work for a five minute video). I don't think it did. When I say "grønt" do I have "vannmelon" in the same sentence? Most likely I have two different situations: one where I am talking about the watermelon (en vannmelon - en grønn vannmelon, vannmelonen er grønn), and a separate situation where I'm talking about the color itself, in the abstract: (dette er grønt). When using "dette" it's not talking about any particular noun, so it uses the neuter form of the color.

Okay, so let me first preface this by saying that I'm not an expert in grammar, and there might be a simpler or better explanation, but I'll give it a shot! First: Norwegian has three noun genders: feminine ("ei bok - boka", a book - the book), masculine ("en stol - stolen", a chair - the chair) and neuter ("et bord - bordet", a table - the table). Not sure if you're familiar with noun genders from another language, or from linguistics or whatever. I don't know why they call it "gender" because it doesn't actually have anything to do with gender. They might as well call it "curly nouns", "straight nouns" and "wavy nouns". Or whatever. Denne / dette both mean "this". And it gets a bit complicated because there are two different ways that we actually use this. Sometimes we are introducing something (This is a table. This is a book. This is Thomas. This is my mom.) whereas other times we're saying something to distinguish "this one" from "that one" or "this other one". When we're introducing something in Norwegian, we always use "dette" regardless of noun gender. "Dette er et bord. Dette er en bok. Dette er Thomas. Dette er mammaen min". But if we're distinguishing between this one and that one, then noun gender comes into play. We use "dette" for neuter nouns, and "denne" for feminine and masculine nouns. "Dette bordet er svart, og dette bordet er brunt", "Denne katten er hvit, og denne katten er grå", "Denne boka er stor, og denne boka er liten." I hope that makes sense. "Hvilken" and "hvilket" is the same thing: hvilken for masculine and feminine nouns, and "hvilket" for neuter nouns. You can think of "den" and "denne" as the same difference as between "that" and "this" in English. As for after the From Zero playlist, I think the "slow norwegian" playlist should be fairly approachable. I hope! :)

In the written language "vogn" is allowed to be treated as either feminine or masculine in bokmål, but if you're writing nynorsk then it has to be feminine. Spoken dialects, though, are much more varied, and in Norway a dialect is never considered wrong-you just generally don't write in dialects. There's at least one dialect that doesn't have the split between masculine and feminine nouns. They call it "common gender", but in practice it's the same conjugation as masculine nouns in bokmål. So in this dialect they'd say "en vogn / vognen". Some dialects consistently use "ei vogn / vogna". Then there's the rest of us, who will sometimes say one and sometimes say the other, sometimes even in the same sentence (as here). I sometimes say "ei vogn" and sometimes "en vogn", but I (almost?) always say "vogna".
