The Blades Of Summer- Canada Cup 1987
1:26:30 Alex Bilyaletdinov
great stuff, sadly we are soft now begging for power plays..what happened ? these guys had true grit & kept skating through slashes, elbows , high sticks etc...now somebody breathes on a guy they cry like little fairys & pretend they got high sticked.......
i was at this game
Bobby Clarke was the only player to be a part of a team winning 3 consecutive international games/series, '72 Summit Series, '76 Flyers-Russia and '76 Canada Cup.

Any New Brunswick viewers recognised the waving fan at the 30:40 elasped time?
I'm a patriotic Canadian, but as a hockey fan, I say these teams were equals. Thank god for both of them, bringing out the best in each other, playing hockey for the ages.
How come Gretzky wasn't captain of this team
I watched this game and others from the tournament here in New York. It wasn't carried by any of the networks or by any syndicated sports packager like Hughes Television Network. We only got to see it here because the local Public television station, channel 13, picked them up from Canada. They had also broadcast the Summit Series in 1972. These type of events were pretty much ignored in the US. It was tough to be a hockey fan in the 70s. I did get to look smart, though. We were watching the game and it went to OT we did the usual "Who's gonna score the OT goal" and I said Sittler. Not that I won anything for my guess. I was 14 years old at the time.
Russia has always been a worthy opponent to Canada!
Tretiack and Dryden watching this the goalies love the game
I'm an old Canadian (66) and remember the battles. All I can say is Canada and Russia were worthy opponent's!
Bobby Clarke's slashing was sorely missed.
Crazy how every team knew that Fuhr’s weakness was pucks shot directly at him.
LOOK MA NO HELMETS LOOK MA NO VISORS

How 'bout Perreault and Lafleur on the same line, look out!
Yes. And in 1981, Perreault, Lafleur, and Gretzky were on the same line, until Perreault got injured with a broken ankle. Perreault was Canada's leading scorer before this happened.
@pastorfergus I remember that, he was a tremendous player
99 leads the tournament in points just on his assists alone and wins the tournament MVP. Par for the course.
14:00 Pure goonery from Messy' EH?
Probably the most dominant Team Canada ever and largely because of Bobby Orr. Such a phenomal level of skill.
Dirty Soviet player st the end slashing Orr. They were cheap with their stick work.
Bobby Hall did play in that 1976 Canada cup series i did not know that till now he's one of my favourite hockey players.
did the flower play?
1:35:39 Perfect snap shot. Look at that saucer on the instant replay. God DAMN Rick!
All of these dummies saying Canada didn't have a talented team: Dionne-Lafleur-Gretzky Bossy-Trottier-Gillies Gare-Middleton-Ken Linesman Duguay-Goring-Hartsburg Potvin-Bourque Gainey-Robinson Beck-Engblom *Reinhardt (who played 2 games in the entire tournament) Gretzky and Lafleur never seemed to gel. Perhaps because Lafleur was more of a playmaker than many remember. Steve Shutt was the pure scoring talent on those late 70s Stanley Cup champion Canadiens. Our one weak link could be Liut, but the real story of this game were Fetisov, who most consider among the best elite defencemen to have ever laced up skates, Krutov-Larionov-Makarov, and Vladislav Tretiak. Just listen to the announcer and count the number of times Fetisov is mentioned as breaking up near-miss opportunities for Canada.
I didnt know Stastny was a dual citizen
Orr still great; with busted up knees.
Those Reds utterly pwned us
Bobby Orr was without a doubt the greatest ever. Back in 72 summit series, do u think it would have played out the way it did if a healthy Orr played..imagine what he would have done on that big ice surface in Russia.. they wouldn't of even been able to touch him...
Firsov did not played in 1972! Soviet League goal scoring leaders were in 1980 Shalimov 34 goals Drotzdetzky 31 Varnakov 30 Priodin 27 Lavrentjev 27 they did not played in 1980 olympics!
Firsov was the only Russian with a good slap shot! Orr never faced complex 5 man unit attack by Soviets! Orr faced NHL players who try to score every position and zero passing skills!
Lafleur Shutt Mahovolich Orr Potvin. wow
I remember watching this game. The last chance to watch Orr. The game wasn't that close...Canada scored 3 goals in a row at the end. Imagine if this group could of practiced together. Lafleur, Hull, Perreault, Dionne Espo, Orr, Robinson and the Montreal 3. P
The greatest 3 game final series, ever contested in hockey history. That says it all.
I used to own the VHS version of this outstanding classic sports documentary, back in the summer of 1988. Thank you so much for posting it, here.
After many years of humiliation from Soviet, 1981 last one
The Canadian goalie not very good
Pretty cool to hear a young Gord Miller doing play by play during the SWE/USSR game
Canada Cup 1976 is the only one that matters.
This game was a turning point in hockey history.
The offensive and defensive systems during the Palaeolithic era were ineffective. Yet it’s compelling hockey. Love it. Makes me appreciate the athleticism and science of the modern game. Hockey really has evolved by leaps and bounds. Many may disagree but even Orr and Hull don’t seem all that impressive.
Is it me or do the boards look higher then now
Judging by the starting lineups, it was basically team USA vs the Montreal Canadiens! (Vachon was of course a former Montreal goalie himself).
A lesson how to play ice hockey properly.
Lets face it the Soviets as a team were more polished but they should be when they play together ALL the time. Team Canada gets a few weeks to organize a team and still can beat the russians.
TEAM USSR - SUPER !!
SERGEI SHEPELEV N 21 - SUPER !!!
CANADA CUP 81 - SUPER VICTORY DREAM USSR !!!
Yeah, yeah, okay, we get it. Personally I think Fetisov was the best defenceman to ever lace up a pair of skates. Catch how many times the announcer points out his marvellous defensive genius. The man is an icon of Russian hockey.
You can see orr is not at his best
