I could be wrong but to me this was the best Canada hockey ever assemble. the quality of the players in that team is giving me goose bumps. I wish we could turn back time......
I agree that any team including the ‘87 Canada Cup team with Lemeiux and Gretzky would be hard pressed to beat this team! Just look at how many Stanley Cup champions were on this team from Hull, Esposito, Orr, Clarke, Leach, Barber, Shutt, Mahovlich, Lafleur, etc! Plus the other stars of the day! This was the deepest team that Canada ever had!
I second Fenton, these games are historical documents - so much rode on these at the height of the Cold War - it was a "big" thing in Canada back them, it brought the country together. Thank you for posting and please, keep on the great work, Ciao, L
Yes it was his last Hurrah, he was like 27 yrs old. We hockey fans lost out on so Much with Bobby's knees. He could have played into the 90s with his skating ability. Could have played well into the Gretzky Lemieux era. Imagine Bobby Orr on the 87 Canada cup team with Lemieux and Gretzky. He would have been 37. We lost out on so much
@Rob Macmillan - Absolutely THE MOST grievous & premature ending to a career of, IMO, the greatest professional athlete to ever step foot on planet 🌍 Earth. Again, just my opinion (… a VERY STRONG one at that, though).
Was at this game , my mum knew Bobby Hull and grew up with him 5 doors down , mum called him at the Sutton place Hotel , he called right back he asked if l had a ticket for this game l said no that sat afternoon , Bobby said have your father drive you to the front dest of the Sutton Place and there will be 2 tickets for you an hour before game time , my father brought me down went to the game , Hull was awesome , Thanks Mum and Bobby , l was 12....True story

What I’d like to know is why Larry Robinson wore number 23 in this tournament and Bob Gainey wore number 34 for Canada, and nobody seemed to be wearing number 19 on that team?

why wasnt ken dryden playing does anyone know? i dont really think he was that terrific of a goalie, i think u put almost anyone in net on that canadiens team and they would have put up gawdy numbers. still surprising. he must not have felt like it lol
If Bobby Orr had such bad knee then how could he be MVP? It looked as though he had a groin problem, not a bad knee. Where is the evidence he has a bad knee? He plays fine here then a year later he can't play at all? This makes no sense. The whole thing is a fraud.
His knee was shot. IMHO was MVP because he was a legend. I watched the series and he wasn't close to what he once was. Reminded me of an old Ali, relying on guile and ringsmanship.

I like how one of the announcers said Canada was worried about their defence??? ORR, POTVIN, ROBINSON, SAVARD, AND LAPOINTE??? Yeah, pretty mediocre.
