@@sultanuddin2909 awesome! Its been a while since this video, but I use it a lot in a practice room, and it’s working great!
Hi do you know where I can get hold of a replacement main power board for this unit?
@@scottchr1 I’m sorry I do not know.
Yeah, the PreSonus CDL 10 P does clip. I will now need to separate the mix, to keep my main L&R and Aux 1 for sub only. I notice the reason why it's clipping is because of the kick drum. Other than that, the speakers sound great!!
Compress that shit man
Nice rig. I use my rig for IEMs at every gig and none of the FOH engineers would take outs from our digital system, so we've always had to carry a copper snake. That's including using Metric Halo converters, which are a huge upgrade from any Midas or Behringer. However, I'm considering getting this box because I've gone to the Wing Rack and need more outputs for IEMs with an 8-11 piece band. Glad to hear it's been reliable and useful!
I need help with clipping
@@mendezmuzik on the speaker add up to +6 on the knob, and add a HPF up to 100Hz, the lows are also the problem
Sounds fantastic, Sean. This is my favorite Mazz song. I still have the CD I purchased in 1989.
I use the XR18 with two 8Ch MS8000 Behringer splitters. Pricewise it comes out about the same, maybe a tad cheaper, depending on what splitters and XLR multicores you use. But it is just so much easier, there is no fuzz with gainstaging, the FOH does not need to worry about anything, he just gets the raw signal and thats it. Even phantom power we do ourselfs since the splitters have one direct link and one galvanicly isolated out and the later goes to FOH. The DN4816-O is nice if you want to have your outputs about 200 feet away from your mixer and you dont have an XLR multicore that long or you want to make use of wall installed CAT5/CAT6 cables in a studio. But other than that I dont think it is that usefull...
@@Medievalfan94 once I had it dialed in, then it is plug in play for the rest of the gigs, I believe it is much better using stage connect for the wing console, since the wing has more outputs, or even studio use, but everyone has there own way of running things!
I run 2 CDL10P per side, on 13 ft stands. Makes a huge difference!
@@XIIMonkeysMusicGroup I recently just bought me some crank stands, that go about 12ft, I’m sure I’m going to get what I’ve been missing.

After replacing the voltage regulators, i don't understand why the only connector within reach of the internal "Lamp" BNC connector cord, is a ground pin on a part of the chassi steel. Is it supposed to be non-functional?
When u say flip the polarity , do u mean change it to cardoid mode which isnthe setting my sub has and about the delay why so
The JBl subs does not have a cardioid button, but have Dsp to change the delay, and polarity, there are many ways to set up a cardioid array, not just on one box.
We also use XR18 and DN4816-O for our band as IEM rig. But it happened several times that the FOH sound engineer reported that the signal from DN4816-O is too hot when I set the gain to average (and recommended) -18dB on XR18. So our solution is to set the gains to -30dB. Of course, this results in a lower signal-to-sum ratio, but it's still imperceptible for live playing. Another problem that gave us quite a hard time was occasional loud noise on some output channels on the DN4816-O. Eventually we found out on reddit that it was probably a bad masterclock synchronization. The solution is simple - turn on DN4816-O after XR18 is fully up and running.
Would 4 CDL 10P enough to cover over 500 ppl? What’s your crossover set too?
I noticed for my outside gigs I have to push a bit more, but when I play indoors, these can get real loud. I rented out my 4 CDLs and my 4 subs in a giant coliseum, and they had at least 400 people, and they told the DJ to turn it down, so indoors it’s great. As for out doors, I am able to get it loud enough, but it will not cover 500 people without adding front fills to help.
@seantallica2020 I just got 4 of them so hopefully they loud enough. I've seen a couple of videos about clipping issue. I wonder are theses better than k12.2
@ I set my tops to +3, and my LR send fader at -5
Can I use the DN4816-O to get more outs for inearz for the band while still using the XAir18 for my main house. Meaning instead of only getting 6Aux for inears , adding this Via Ultranet to get more outs for like a 11pc band?
Sadly you cannot, you can only send out what the board has, so only 6 aux outs, you can send 6 aux outs on the DN, but it will be the same as it is on the Xr 18
You can use up to 10 mono auxes - 6 default ones and 4 more with this tutorial ( ruclips.net/video/KQErunjlsAA/видео.html ). It depends how many effects channels you can sacrifice. Plus there is a bonus - you can use main L+R as another stereo IEM output. If you use this rig as IEM unit, you don't need L+R anyway 😉
@@JazzBusterzz the DN is more for sending back out the 1-16 direct channels of the mixer for other iem mixers.
have you heard the QSC LA108/112? if yes, how do they compare to these?🤔 every time i hear these speakers in a video, they seem to sound as if there's a hard cover on top of them, whereas in all videos, where you can hear the LA112s, the sound seems to be clear/pure🤷♂
Nice set up. Whatis the size of that gator rack case. 4u or 2u??
How about Phantom Power (48v)? When FoH “accidentally” sends a Phantom Power to a channel, does it damage the DN4816 in anyway? Thanks!
I thought this a while back also, but upon more research it doesn’t really ruin it, the band sending the the signal out should already have phantom power anyways, I believe my last show the FOH had Phantom power, but It really didn’t effect anything
How's the real life H/V dispersion on those CDL's compared to the manufacturer's posted specs?
I can say pretty accurate, once I cross the box at 180* flat, then the mids and highs disappear
@@seantallica2020 o ok.

thank were did you buy the regulators and do you have the model you purchased thanks
I bought them off of EBay: 3PCS STMicroelectronics L7805CV Voltage Regulator IC REG LINEAR 5V 1.5A TO220AB
Hello! Today I repaired one of these units since one of the buttons did not work and the low output volume (approximately -30db) caught my attention. Is this normal? Greetings!
@@MrFosamax hmm, I have not run into that issue. I’ll look into that.
How long did you have this mixer before the issue arrived? I just bought the 16.0.2 used, that was less the 3 months old, and will be swapping out the regulators, before i even use it. I have seen many issues with them here on youtube alone so will nip it in the bud. Do not want to be in the middle of the show and it decides to stop working because of the 5 volt regulator
I looked this mixer up on reverb, it was already faulty(inputs 1-12 were not working). I also did research and learned that the 3v was the problem, over long periods of time of use the 3v regulator will give out. It’s been quite a while now in my practice room using this mixer, and I’ve had 0 dropouts, all the auxes, and channels are working just fine! And I understand that if you are in a middle of a show, you do not want the mixer to drop out. I haven’t seen another video stating; “5V regulator did not work” but I always take a back up 16 channel(XR18)
@@seantallica2020 Appreciate the response, the regulators you replaced look like the 5 volt regulators. The part number you posted is for the 5 volt regulators, and many videos showing them going bad.
@@seantallica2020 The part you posted is for the 5 volt regulator, not sure about the 3 volt. Others have posted the same exact same problem, it seems to be pretty common. So am getting them replaced before i put it in service.
@@seantallica2020 Many Videos out there that shows the Presonus mixers replacing the 5V regulators with the 7805.
Interested to see how much mileage you get out that. Thought about doing the same thing for space saving. Issue is this solution might not scale depending on the situation. Larger gigs you may run into engineers that aren't going to take post gain sends. It might be rare, but we decided a passive split accounts for pretty much everything. No Behringer eco-system at FOH? no problem with passive splits. FOH engineer doesn't wanna deal with post gain sends? no problem with passive splits. Compatability to replace on the road / quickly? Passive split XLR's are a lot more common. Plus you don't have to gain down for FOH and use compressors like you were saying. You have complete control over the boards features for IEM's. Interested to see if you run into any of that or if it just continues to work with most your festival / venue engineers!
It had worked the first time, ironically they had a M32 lol, we have many shows coming up as we do and the near end of the year, and since we already ran a show, the gain is set and forget anyways, after these shows I may make an update on how these shows went
Here is a HUGE TIP I forgot to mention: Don’t worry about setting the Gain in the beginning, send it as is to the FOH. But there is a problem; you as the band won’t have enough gain to listen in your ears. Fix: set all channel sends to Pre-Fader, add the Make-Up gain in the compressors, problem fixed! I actually like the way the EQ sounded with the compressors adding gain, and no if you set your tap points correctly on the ultranet out, it WILL NOT affect FOH. Hope you enjoyed!
Can you make a video about this specific trick? I’ve ran into the problem in the past where I felt like I’ve gain staged everything well & that it sounded good in our iems but in the louder parts, usually for the vocals or guitars, we’d get some distortion from the PA. Wasn’t sure if it was user error on our end or if the foh was still adding even more gain.
@@landog9029 I have a show coming up, and we are doing this exactly, I will see if I have time, I believe I have about 30 min to change over so the band should help
@@seantallica2020 Thanks for all your experience with this. Can you update us on if the compressor make up gain introduces any weird extra noise? I like the idea of using the channels' compressors as the XAir's "preamp" knob for our IEM's.
I've been trying to figure this out, but can the DN4816-O send signals that will not be affected by changing the input gain on something like the XR18? I know you covered gain staging, but I'm wondering if there is any option at all... Thanks!
Sadly the main issue is any Gain you changed, set, establish, will be effected at the line send outs. There really is no way to send pre-gain. However, it’s best if you leave the gain set from the start, and if you are doing the set up I am doing now(DN->FOH) what I discovered is since you send the Tap/In to FOH, you can add Make-Up gain back in from the Compressors on the channels, you basically add more gain without affecting the FOH! On the show where I first used this, there was an issue where all the band mates had all the channels turned up; since I lowered the gain by -5dB so the FOH can control, it was a pressing issue, but I figured to set there bus channels Pre-fader, and add the Make-Up gain on the compressors, then we did not need to push the faders up, and in my case, I liked the way certain instruments sounded adding Make-Up gain after the EQ! Hope that helps!
I'm running an X32 Rack with a DL32. I've also got 2 SR8s to split. I just give the snake coming out of the SR8s to FOH (when there is a FOH) otherwise we just run everything into the DL32 and IEMs coming out of the DL32 outs. Simple rig and only weighs about 60lbs with our IEM rackmounts. When I'm running FOH for other bands I'm just running the X32 Rack with the DL32 and its all good! Great video man!
Im glad you also do something similar! For me I like having physical snakes, instead of the SR8s, since most of the band members can plug in the tails instead of worrying about the shielded Ethernet wire.
So you are running tails to the front of house's stage box? What if they don't have a stage box?
As stated on the tech rider that I have a 10’ snake, and if they do not have one I have a personal 100’ foot 16channel snake needed, that why I let them know in a week of advance so if they have any questions. 90% of sound companies have stage boxes, and even snakes on stage.
How do you like the Mackie compared to the Behringer? Your mix sounded great by the way.
Thank you so much! Comparing the Mackie and Behringer xr18, I feel like it’s like driving a truck without CarPlay in it, you can still get to point A to point B, but I prepare the newer one with CarPlay since it has more features, that’s how I think. They are digital mixers, and they do almost exactly the same, 18 in, 6 aux and LR, but the XR18 has more FX features, and the Mackie feels dated to me, even on Mixing station where it’s the same UI across the board! If I had to choose to run a gig, I’d choose Behringer. Hope that helps!
@@seantallica2020 Thanks for that feedback Sean, That helps!
Love my CDL10P's I've used them for about 25 shows since I got them. 😁
What crowd sizes and music type did you use them for?
thank you brosif
what forum did you go to help you investigate and determine the solution? my church has one firewire and one USB version of this with some issues, example: channel 8 of USB version doesn't work firewire version works but sometime, it crashes and shutdown.
I didn’t really find a forum, I so happened to find it on RUclips, the main issue is the voltage regulators on the factory board, I believe it is 3v, instead of the 5v I put in, as for the USB I have not tried that, since I do have the FireWire version I’m not worried about, maybe if I got my hands on the updated ones I could help more.
Have you tried the TRS on channel 8 also?
thats not a balanced cable. theres no such thing as a balanced cable. there are cables used for balanced signals. but thats NOT such a cable. its just a stereo cable.
Hey Sean, nice video log. On your main EV's how loud did you have the volume set at? Also, was you using an aux send sub mix to your subs? And one last question what size subwoofers was you using and where did you have the volume set at?
@@davellbruton1901 the first time using these towers I did not know how to set the level, but there are a lot of people scared to raise even over 1dB, so here is what I learned this year: Towers first, I set the treble to +2dB, mid to 0 dB, and sub to +2 dB, and the output volume to +3dB. As for the 2 12” subs I set output volume at +3dB, and the HPF at 120Hz these were not ran on a different aux I run mono on all my shows, so these were linked into input-mix out, to each one of those Hope that helps!
@@seantallica2020 Thank you for the information. from what I could tell the system sounds good.
It's a pain. The main issue is those plug in adaptors are noisy as they only half wave rectify.... A better PSU will provide better smoother supply (it's the conversion from AC to DC that's not as clean is the crux). Other options are running the entire thing of a UPS that has been charged up and unplugged, so you're using a groundless supply - so ground loops aren't a thing any more. I've had huge success running it through a DI box and flicking the ground lift on. Passive DI boxes are a pretty cheap solution. You don't need an active one.

Thanks for the video. Like always I can't wait until your next video. I have a lot of questions for you regarding your setup. Is there any way you can make a video how you prep for your shows? I see in under your amp gear list you use 2 Behringer Nx600 and 2 QSC GX5. Can you show me which amps that you use for your subs as well what mode you have them setup? One last thing, is there any way can you go over your drum monitor setup with a sub? I was wondering how you do your setup, from avoid getting feedback from the drums.
I will definitely show it!
I know it's been a few months since you posted this video & I'm sure you already know this by now but in the end-fire configuration subs don't need to be 4+ feet away from each other (depending on the frequency you want to cross over at). Otherwise, I love your content & binging on it as of today. I enjoy what you're doing: not pretending to know everything but knowing quite enough to stay busy gigging. Rock on
The voices are very poor, lack of gain, the drums are heard very low forward as well as the bass. The problem is that the sound is very poor for that space, you cannot ask for more.
That HF driver swap should be okay. The newer JRX200 series boxes use the JBL 2414H-C, which is the ferrite version of the 2414H-1 that the EON's use, so it'll be a good match sonically. That being said, I have always found those HF drivers to be quite weak. I would've upgraded to something from PRV audio, something like a D280Ti, for higher reliability.
@@FOHFILMS thank you for confirming! It what I had left over and thought they didn’t work, but I do still have the old drivers, and A-B testing it you can tell the old one has no clarity.
You really need some front lighting in your setup. The audience wants to see the performer's faces, and most musos like to be able to see what they're doing. It will really take your gigs to that next level!
