Добавлен 30 сен 2021
Left Brain CG Art is my attempt at diving into the art world, developing my creative side, and getting an understanding of what makes things look good. I've never been much of a creative type so this is me documenting my art journey, starting with learning how to work with 3D models in Blender. I'm striving for mastery of the things I learn by understanding them well enough to explain to others.

Creating Procedural Hexagons with Blender's Shader Nodes
Просмотров 3,2 тыс.6 месяцев назад
I've been learning how to create procedural materials with Blender's shader nodes and I recently made this hexagonal texture and tiled UV map and I wanted to show you guys how I did it and some of the things I learned along the way. I try to cover why the nodes are set up the way they are so you're going to see a few linear algebra and trigonometry concepts to explain how to mathematically crea...

I made a mock photorealistic watch product video/commercial/ad as an homage to one of my friends who’s a long time supporter of my work. I’m trying to step up my cinematography and visual storytelling skills and in this particular project I tried to focus on creating visual interest through dynamic movement with the subject, camera, and lighting. The modeling and animation were done in Blender ...

I have never yelled at my computer so much because you go so fast, extremely frustrating and unhelpful. Currently 4 mins in after 30 mins of working
I don’t have most of the settings for the lighting do you know if there are new ones?
in mine i put a painting on the wall with a woman in a bikini 🤤
awesome i followed along as my second practice project and was able to customize it differently
who knows the colour code for all the objects, i cant really see the colour codes he is using
I list out all the node settings at 35:37.
@@leftbraincgart thanks I have seen it already, I didn't watch up to that point them
BTW, I stumbled a lot when applying the bevel modifier, they don't always work well. After searching for solutions, I realise that this could be resolved by simply applying the scale for the objects (ctrl+A). I don't know why you won't have the same problem but I think it's worth sharing.
This is a really nice tailored tutorial and it's beginner friendly. Thank you for explaining every step, it's super helpful!
10:11 i have set the origin point to geometry and it still won't mirror correctly, pls help
This is awesome!
Genius! Thank you, I've learned a lot from this video, not just about Blender, but also about math. It's much appreciated (Suscribed)
Cool stuff! Also, regarding the negative modulo problem at around 9:30, could be avoided if you used Wrap instead. You prolly might've figured that out by the time I posted this comment. But I feel like I should mention it anyways, just in case somebody else reads this.
You forgot to tell how to setup custom colors
This tutorial is only meant to show you how to create the pattern. I plan on making other videos showing how to use this as a base to create other procedural textures. If you are just looking to add color, you can use this as a factor with a Mix Color node.
@@leftbraincgart then crap video. I have to go to other channels to see what you refused to explan
My brain is a hexagon
This motherfu@ker just made this tutorial too much speedy, if you are a pro then you can catch him otherwise you will be frustrated and stop learning blender again.
ty so much, i learn a lot :D
Can you do a tutorial on extending procedural hexagons into hexagonal Voronoi textures?
Thanks for the idea! I'll give it some thought. The video wouldn't come out for a while though, if I manage to figure it out.
Thank you for a very well explained tutorial. This was exactly what I was looking for.
Glad you found it helpful!
but others ke size ?\
you're doing god's work; we thank you many thanks for sharing your knowledge; subbed
Appreciate it, thank you!
Hi, well thanks for the video, I did everthing you said. when it is in render mood, window light looks perfect but when İ try to have the render image in the end, window light disappeared. Do you know what should i do :)
Is it just the window light disappearing or do all the lights change? One thing that comes to mind is that in the video, I'm working in Eevee for speed, but I'm rendering in Cycles which causes the window light to look different, so you'll need to change the emission value.
I DID IT
Woohoo! 🙌
So much knowledge, awesome job!
Thanks!
perhaps one of the most concise and clear explanations out there, thank you so much
why do you feel the need to make creating the keys even diffcult when it doesnt need to be honestly
Thank you so much! This was incredible helpful.
i know this comment is late, but when i shade the window smooth and add the bevel modifier, it goes all weird and shaded and not... smooth. help!!!
There's two major culprits I would check if you're running into shading issues. The first is for doubled up vertices. At 24:04, I go over how in edit mode, you can select all the vertices and merge by distance to get rid of any overlapping duplicated vertices. The second thing to check for are your normal orientations, which I go over at 32:47. In edit mode, you can try selecting everything and recalculate all the normals to face outside.
PLEASE make more tutorials!! you explain things really well and the best part is that your voice doesn't sound like AI lol
Thanks! It takes me a lot of time to make these, so to hear that you like them means a lot. I do plan on making more modeling tutorials; I've just been really busy lately so I haven't had as much time to work on them as I'd like.
Amazing tutorial ! Could you tell me what's the font you use in the cover please?
Thanks! The font is Harlow Solid Italic.
@@leftbraincgart Thank you so much!
the video is great
Amazing tutorial.
Glad to have found this channel !
I always struggle with grid lines when I'm building texture maps, so thank you!
videoların çok güzel özellikle oda yapma videonu çok beğendim
Please make more tutorials
Working on it!
Amazing tutorial, thank you so much! You know, making a few more of these would help out a ton of beginners! And I'm sure they would gladly subscribe to show the support.
That's the plan! I have a few more modeling tutorials in the pipeline; they just take me a while to make because I want to make sure I get them right.
Anyone else encountering weird things on the warddrobe when shadesmoothing + applying the bevel modifier from the window at 24:30 ish? welp

This video is extremely underrated.
And if you look at the hexagon long enough, you realize 3 more lines, and its a 3D cube.
Amazing tutorial, I love that you didn't skip any step!
This saved my ass, I couldn't get my concrete nearly clean enough until I tripped on this video
I understood only maybe 10% of the math involved, but I followed your node setup and got the effect I wanted, thanks!
hi, i have 3 very weirdly specific problems that are popping up in my design. can anyone help me out with it? the first problem i have is that the emission from the video isn't showing up in my rendered version. the second one is a bigger problem which is that whenever i try to add a camera into the scene, it somehow keeps picking the area below the bed as the main focal point and i've tried every which way to find a solution but every time i add a camera, and i hit the numpad 0 key, its showing me the blank space beneath the bed. when i manually move it by using the cursor as the controller, it messes up the bedframe for some reason. like either it disappears or its set as a different position.
Hi... I cannot find Autosmooth in Data
If you're using Blender 4.1, you'll have to right click the object and choose Shade Smooth. Then add a "Smooth by Angle" modifier to the object (under the Normals submenu).
@@leftbraincgart Thank You :)
Dude this was amazing, you are not only super smart but also super entertaining
I appreciate that, thank you!
Amazing explanation. Thanks.
Great video. BTW at 11:22 the lines don't look centered. Otherwise love it, 10/10
Theres no side options like item in blender 4.1 is tthere equivalent for that? Help
Thank you so much for this tutorial! It was very useful and clear 👏
I really love your tutorials man there is something special about your techniques which is always being smart and avoiding repetition I really respects you a lot
33:25, did this step and everything but my walls were red..... the bed, the lamps, wardrobe, window, wall art, floor, plane.... what did I do wrong?
