Roland BD-8 UV Printer: First Impressions & Printing on Lunchbox
Hey, new to the BN2-20. I have been trying to nail down these perf cuts, but I keep getting jams. Do you have an initial blade setting in the carrier? I hear a creditcard, but they can vary. Any advice for the initial perf cut pressure settings? Thanks
Hi there, I have another video on fine tuning the cuts here: ruclips.net/video/ceszIVzXB_0/видео.html
Hi, how are you? Whenever I save the images in PDF and import them into VersaStudio, they are cropped into a square. Could you help me with this? tahnks
Hello, I am good! When you save as a PDF, it will save the entire art board so if it's square, thats the reason. You can crop your art board to be just big enough for your design. I hope this helps!
Which other printers do you recommend to achieve the same outcome?
Does it tell you how much ink was used during all of the automatic cleaning cycles?
A BIG BIG Thanks!!! Ive been looking all over how i can do this on my BN2 20A, i going to give this a try asap. however , the swatches im using came from my roland RS640 which the machine i think is not detecting... do you mind sharing the swatches you use for the contour and perf cuts? THANK YOU in advance!!
THANK YOU for this video! Soooo helpful!
You are so welcome!
Do you need special exhaust components for the Roland for ink fumes or is this model fine for a small office?
I have multiple graphtec and other cutters. It is beyond me how turning the cap does anything at all. It doesn't physically move the blade it just exposes more blade. I've set my blade from barely out to completely out and see zero difference.
is this the same on the graphtec? I used to have one but I can't remember which part moves when winding
You keep printing the template on the pad. Does that wipe off?
Hi, no it doesn’t wipe off. I’ve since switched to using paper templates which I toss after using it for a while
@ I saw that in another video and copied that idea! Thanks for the inspiration.
Where did you find the versa works swatches for illustrator?
💎
💎
curious if you can print 12" wide? I am looking for someone who can print white ink on a transparency.
Hey Angelyn, I would love to connect and chat. Our charity just bought the VersaStudio BD-8 to print directly onto LEGO Bricks. I would love to talk to you about setup and any print settings you found helpful.
hi there! please email me at printbestie@gmail.com
I'm a subscriber. You make good videos and communicate well. Do you have a link to the blanks you use for these?
I second all of this
This was awesome! Love your videos and style! Would you happen to have rotary to print on clear glass cylinder? I'm curious on if the max height with rotary can be up to 4 inches with a diameter of 4-5 inches wide. Keep up the awesome videos, Angelyn! Liked and Subscribed.
Nice video. I'm looking at adding that UV printer. I have laser engraving and I get ask about color stuffs.
Thanks! I'm the opposite. I'd love a laser machine to go with my UV.
Hiya I like your videos and is interested in the UV printer. Could you let me know whether I can print A4 size objects on this printer.
Is there a way to talk to Roland about VersaWorks v6 cutline issues. I thought WinME was bad in terms of issues. I have a BN2-20A. This isnt a lack of training, this is software glithches. How am i supposed to run a business like this. It should of taken me 15 mins tops, but it took 2 hours to find workarounds.
Would you recommend the Bn20a?
The Bn20a works ok. The print quality is really nice and cuts ok. It's just real slow especially for cutting. It probably takes 8ish hours to print a 50ft of material. I only know this because I've left a job of stickers going (to finish the whole roll) and went to bed lol
How big of a quality difference would there have been if you had used the high speed/standard print quality settings for the spot UV instead? 10/8 minutes vs 39 would make a massive difference for people doing a lot of this.
What is the difference between this machine and eco-solvent printing machines, and in which areas is it primarily used? For example, is it used for industrial machine labels? Another point is that it completely cuts the sheet, which differentiates it from other digital printing machines. What is the reason for this?
Beautiful design. How much is that printer ?
about 10k USD
Thanks for doing these videos. It's crazy the amount of work you have to do for final product
Thanks for watching! This one is for some extreme special effects haha
Hello Angelyn, how would a custom printed lego minifigure look? I saw the detail on the lego bricks you did previously, but would it lend well to a minifigure tosro? And would you need a special rig for the different parts?
Are you from vegas?
Hi! I'm not from vegas though regularly visit.
What’s a great uv printer to start with? I am a very small business starting out and branching out from sublimation
BD-8 is a good starter machine, but the print size is about 5.5x8in. Low maintenance and easy to use.
Is this a good machine for a beginner mostly DIY with tiny Etsy shop?
i would say so! it is on the pricey side but its so low maintenance so there is a lot less worry with whether you are cleaning it etc. i think its fairly user friendly if you have video guidance to start :)
@@PrintBestie thank you 😊
Hey Angel, how do you print on the spine of the book? Coz otherwise it will be left white with no color and look incomplete. As usual , love your videos.
Thanks so much! That's a good point. I think I could open the notebook evenly to print on the spine - this might be a good follow up video!
Very cool. What was the total print time for all three parts? Just curious how it stacks up from a production standpoint. Thanks for sharing, Angelyn.
Thanks Mike! Total for all 3 layers took 49 minutes. If I printed on Standard instead of High Quality it estimates 18 minutes - something to try for next time :)
@@PrintBestie Yeah, that's a long time. It'll be interesting to try it on the faster speed and see what the quality looks like.
What degree of blade do you use? I’m having a hard time getting it to completely cut the sticker out without damaging my cutting strip. And then once it gets through the edges are rough.
i use a 60 degree blade. i have another video on how to fine tune the settings - ruclips.net/video/ceszIVzXB_0/видео.htmlsi=rdg0C5HfM7ub-0h1
This is really cool to see how it works in real life. Thanks.😊
You’re welcome 😊
Do I have to learn Photoshop if I buy this machine? I draw in Procreate and know nothing about PS
Hi, you don't need to know photoshop but you need a software that allows you to add a vector line where you want the blade to cut. I'll try to make a procreate workflow one :)
@@PrintBestie Oh thank you!
First 🙏🏾
I have been using a fiber and co2,lasers as a part time side gig. Been looking at this printer to run golf balls, poker chips and phone cases. how long should I expect a full set of inks to last under normal use
Awesome. Turned out nice with the transfer tape. Thanks for sharing Angelyn!
Can you do a video on setting up raised spot UV and printing it out (like start to finish) using this printer?
I'll be posting this on Wednesday :)
I saw you at printed United Las Vegas, didn’t have the time to say hi, you were busy.
aw bummer! i hope you had a good show though. say hi next time!
Thank you for doing this video! I own this printer and I have been wondering about this. I'm also curious if your printer was powered on the entire time while you were not using it? It seems to eat ink regularly as part of it's self cleaning regimen, regardless of how much you use it, and a lot of owners have complained about it. It makes it really hard to price out work in the end.
No problem! Yes it was plugged in the whole time though there was probably a day or two that it was off because the power short circuited and I didn't notice until my stove clock was blinking lol. So I ran to power the machine on after that. I hear you on the ink waste when it's idle. Unfortunately I don't know any work around but I think it's generally a good thing so the head stays in good condition otherwise replacing one is also very expensive. But hopefully there are updates to still lessen the usage. In the meantime I'm trying to find a high margin niche to make the costs all worth it.
Nice. Normally not running white continuously can be a real problem, but I guess as long as your machine was turned on still and auto cycling in the background then it looks like the white circulation was doing its job. Glad to see a new video.
Thanks always!!
Where did you go? On vacation?
a mix of business travel and fun travel and then some relatives on vacation came to me instead so it was busy busy lol
Studio looking clean!!!
thank you!! it was a disaster prior lol
Welcome back.❤
thanks so much! :)
This is great. Do you have advice if printing on playing cards would work? I assume a similar process using blank cards?
I actually have some blanks! So you'll likely see a video of this soon :)
@@PrintBestie Great! I was wondering what the best material would be so that the cards can withstand playing with a lot. Anyway can't wait for the video!
Amazing videos 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks so much!!
I have the original blade I think it comes with a 45 degree blade is that what you’re using for your settings?
I swapped to a 60 degree early on to get good perf cuts. I've used a 45 to do perf cuts on 3mil vinyl and it works ok but overtime it dulls out faster.
Hi! I was wondering if you ever got to making that video of the cutting settings… I’m still having issues with understanding the pressure, etc… would love to learn from you!
Coming soon! Thanks for looking forward to it :)
Help for some reason the perf cut settings don’t work anymore did yours change too ? I’m using your settings
Overtime the blade dulls so I would increase by 10 force and do some tests. And if it still isn't working after you increase to 250gf+ then I'd consider using a new blade
mind if I ask what 6mil vinyl roll are you using? Been looking for a nice thick vinyl
hello! it's wallflair by roland but this one isn't considered permanent vinyl. it's reposition-able since it's meant for walls. but i think there are some 6mil permanent out there from other shops.
Hi. Can you do a tutorial on how to align the image on versaworks and the printer itself. We can never get ours where we want it
Yes I can do that :) I almost always keep my print origin at 0 and use a template. Otherwise it's kind of hard to pinpoint where it'll drop the ink exactly
I am just trying to figure out why I dont have the `PERF CUT` INTO my swatch.
Hi, if you don't have it you can create one. It just needs to be named 'PerfCutContour' and a spot color. I can make a video on this soon, though I think Roland's YT channel has one out so it's worth checking :)
@@PrintBestie perfect. Thank you. Lots to learn for the Bn2 20.
