Gus is an enigma for all sorts of reasons! He already has a legitimate business that is very successful but requires him to put in insane hours of work. Yet he also spends countless hours as the (secret) master-mind of a multi-million dollar meth operation that employs scores if not hundreds of people. Any one of whom could flip on him to the feds and bring down his whole illegal empire at any moment. For a guy who is supposed to be so thorough, careful, cautious, and secretive, that is a pretty big loose end, or more like dozens of loose ends just waiting to topple the whole house of cards! Moreover, Gus must be bringing in millions of dollars every year or he wouldn't do it. BUT since his tactic is the "hiding in plain sight" he doesn't dare spend too much of those millions, lest that too blow his carefully crafted persona as: "Gus Fring - local businessman, all around humanitarian, charitable benefactor of causes great and small, and swell guy in general that you'd never suspect of running a methamphetamine empire and murdering people on the sly." And since he obviously can't bank it, at least not anywhere in the in the entire country, the guy's no doubt got millions of dollars socked away somewhere, probably Caiman islands type place, hidden in old disused barns hither and yon, plus an extra million buried in a sock in his backyard etc.

Gus could not have achieved any of this without Lyle

Lalo is archetypal Shakesperean "smiling villain".

Guss is worse than this guy.

That character is very undercurrent with threats. His character is clever

A charming villain is the most dangerous kind of villain. Lalo was smarter than Gus but he wasn't as patient.

If you can love a villain then Lalo is your man. Great acting for sure

Love the series. Hate how many long scenes are shot in almost total darkness. Why? It adds nothing - it detracts. It wasn't just this series, a lot of shows/movies made around the same time did the same. I suppose it was "fashionable".
