Thanks so much for this, I really can relate to a lot of these experiences. I’m four cultures in one person and navigated a backwards PWI as a child having very psychologically scarring experiences. It wasn’t until university I had the answers of having Afro-Latino and Indigenous ancestry as someone that has Puerto Rican/Boricua ancestry. I’ve begun to identify more as a mixed-race, mulato Afro-Indigenous man. Before I entered manhood and had the spaces where I felt comfortable with this identity, and grew into hair styles/dress that reflected my true ancestry, I had pale-skin as a child and it meant for years racist spaces would pour insanely horrific statements on me, letting their guard down. On top of this, it didn’t help that my Puerto Rican ancestry comes from a cultural anomaly, a rare group of Puerto Ricans from the Hawaiian Islands for 121+ years. Having rare Hawaiian islanders influences on top of my complicated ancestry made navigating race/culture in America borderline psychologically scarring. I’ve grown strong from these experiences and am using my background to united BIPOC, write books and activism to united different cultures, and create beautiful art. Would love to collab!

I thought you would've joked, in your younger days, that if you were in a horror movie, you would live longer than the Black characters because you're half white, but they'd ultimately still kill your character because you're half Black. Or you lived because you were half white, but they had you in the hospital trying to pull through for the rest of the movie because you almost didn't make it t since you're half black.

A relationship comes with compromises and sacrifices, which you were willing to do right up until you got the "forever" realization. Make no mistake: based on your story, I don't think the guy in this was an effective communicator either. But you never communicated your unhappiness and broke up with him in your mind long before you physically left. Obviously, what's done is done, and if you're happier, great. But that had to hurt this guy, who had spent a third of his life building his around yours, only to see it vanish with no chance of fighting back. I do think that this type of story is more common with people who are in long-term relationships from a very young age, as they haven't fully fleshed out who they are yet. I have a gut feeling that you'd have been more committed to making it work had you done these aspirations and dreams in college and this story played out four years later. Communication is key, and commitment requires compromise. Lessons most of us learn the hard way. Thank you for sharing.

Some of the comments in here are really harsh. I don’t think she ever said she was doing this all the time. In fact, I believe she said this would’ve been her first time which given todays Hook-up culture sounds to me like she’s doing OK.

I can relate to you so much! I relate in the sense that I never want to get married either. People make me feel guilty for that. People think women like you and me should get married or should want to get married. Everyone doesn't have that desire and it's totally okay! 👌

You're probably not looking for suggestions anymore, but some advice I've seen for when you just Can't do stuff like the dishes and brushing your teeth is to go for something that cuts out the middleman, so to say. Can't brush your teeth, swish around some mouthwash. Can't do the dishes? If you can eat at all, have some paper plates on hand so dishes don't continue to accumulate. They're not perfect solutions or replacements for the tasks but the mindset is intended to get you through it until you can do basic upkeep again.

If i spoke to my dr the way you are, hed say im manic or hypomanic... I have to pretend to be depressed, because he makes it seem like it makes him happy that im depressed.
