Nautical Nonsense
США
Добавлен 21 июн 2018
Watch as I work on my 1985 Egg Harbor 33', learn what to do and not to do when working on an older boat. I am very much a rookie when it comes to boat repairs. Learn from my mistakes and from my successes. Working with a limited budget will make for some challenges and will cause me to find the cheapest way to get repairs completed.
Sad Day, Found Nautical Nonsense. Better Memories at the end and a song by my son. :-)
In today's video, we take a nostalgic journey that unexpectedly turned bittersweet. While out for a drive, I stumbled upon an old friend-my beloved boat that I was once restoring and documenting here on RUclips. She was a project full of hope and potential until Hurricane Michael had other plans. After the storm, I sold her, believing she'd be given a second chance by someone else.
But today, I found her again, and it was a sad sight. There she was, laying on her side, partly submerged and far from the dream I once had for her. Seeing her like this brought back so many memories, and I couldn't help but imagine what could have been. If only I had the time and resources, I would've loved to ...

Egg Harbor Boat Tour - Before Rebuild
I just vacuum seal it with my food vacuum sealer.
Really nice share. Good luck with the new channel
Really nice share!
Hell yeah thanks brother
How do you get the bottom? Good old on the back grunt style crawling?
Nice idea
Leave a little dollop sticking out of the tube, put it in a gallon freezer bag and put it in the refrigerator.
You can put a small balloon over the top n that works great
i like the aluminum foil idea, however it's likely the freezing it would do more harm than good.
Would it eat the gel coat?
If you do it all the time, absolutely. This is more like a "first scrub of the season" solution. Once or twice a year won't hurt anything.
Great tip, just said $27 with tax
I tried to find screw on caps for after you remove the applicator but i think 3M purposely makes the tube thread an off size, i have tried many, i use a tight fitting rubber cap, ziplock bag both ends with elastic bands, then a large zip lock bag then in the refrigerator, got 2 years + out of last tube altho it was very hard to squeeze the gun lever but worked, longest i ever had an open tube
Use a pump sprayer
👍. Great information
Cool man I’m gonna run outside to my trash bin and grab my half and tube and do this before it seizes up on me. I figured chalk it up to a loss it’s gonna go off and be ruined come hell or high water
YOU ANSWERED MY PRAYERS with this video. Have tile grout to put in a tight space and didn't want to spend the extra $15 at Home Depot so I'm using this method. Thank You!
what sealant do u recommend for a genoa deck rail. thx
Get a Walmart cheap hand pump gallon sprayer makes it easier also liquid pool shock at Walmart does same thing add a little dawn.
Pray for anyone that has to work on anything after 5200 is applied 🥺
Why’s that? Can I use it for fiberglass bath tub hairline cracks?
@@BT-bx1un because it's non workable and stronger than most materials it can bond with. On a tub I believe it would still trap dirt like any chaulk like material.
@@Snarf_Le_Wombatshould I use something else instead? Need to make it until January then replacing it. What would you recommend using?
@@BT-bx1un oh yeah it'll be the most permanent temporary fix, just don't let it get down the drain, they even sell a marine version that sets up underwater
It’s $60 at Napa now.
good weed control
Amazing job thanks
That’s why they sell the little tube😏
No offense but this boat should be a center console sir in order to have a safe but you need to gut everything out of this boat and make it a center console
Rustaid from Ace Hardware works even better, make sure to cover your trailer best you can
One time I tried just squirting the whole tube into a quart ziploc bag and sealing it after squeezing out any remaining air. I still have that solid block of 5200 and I use it to remove sawdust from sanding belts.
Does this work on painted aluminum boats?
Shrink wrap or vaccum bag, then freezer
Wht the fuckkkk
Fairly certain ABYC recommends not bonding fuel fillers. And the camera may not like 100*F but “heat index” doesn’t affect it whatsoever. Just temperature.
Tried it on my boat here in Wisconsin. Didn’t work.
Amazing result!
Man, to hell with all the pumping with your fingers. I'd but it in a pump sprayer and use that instead.
Try product called on-off
The Twain quote was appropriate. Sunk at the dock would have been an easy fix. 454 is the second cheapest engine on the planet to rebuild, and an easy diy that would have been wise to do even if the boat didn't get swamped. The wiring would have also been on the must do list either way too. As for the generator, tear down, clean up and reassemble is just time. At worst a used generator is easy to find cheap. The Egg would have been a great boat for you in many ways.
What do you recommend for washing after each use?
I like the foil idea. Did a search and someone said it gets air exposure from the back end also. $$$ I will be using foil such as you but will be hot gluing around the rim also. ... .. .On the end/plunger part I will brush some vaseline to seal the back, then evacuate in a plastic bag and refrigerate!! Wew, getting my money's worth !!
I want to repack my rudder shafts, this was a good video but didn't need the music cause i don't dance.
What about where the hull is sitting on the trailer bunks? Does that cleanser soak into the carpet and then eat into the Gel Coat that is sitting on the carpet?
And while we wait....." WE HYDRATE"!!!!
Ain't no such thing as pre cleaned crawfish. Wasting your money dude.... 😂
Awesome! Thank you !
Thanks for the tip
You should be wearing full eye goggles and an N95 mask!
Shut up nerd
Can't hear you!!!
This is a great way to eat your gelcoat. Get some polish and hand applicators and get your hands dirty. You can do it for less than $10 (6.50 for a bottle of polish, 1.50/2pack hand applicators) and it will look way better and not harm your boat, yes it is going to remove gelcoat as well but it’s designed to do so in a safe manner, unlike this.
Do you have any docs to back up your claim for eating gel coat?
Nice job thanks!
I just tape up the end of the applicator tip then put it in a food saver bag so its not exposed to air and put it in the fridge. Never found freezing it to be needed.
funny, I use that to clean alot of things
Me too ! The green one ( same brand ) is even better!
Sounds reasonable! Now, go clean your toilets!😝☕️🔥
