I’m aiming to help as many people as possible be more effective in their use of time and I want to help us all see how how this can become problematic for us and an idol if we let it.
I am using UpNote as my hub app and this channel will showcase how to use UpNote and how to master the power of this app for our everyday lives.

ToDoist's New Filters
ToDoist is an app I have used for a about 8 years or so.
It’s an app that is seeing a lot of development at the moment.
And I couldn’t be happier.
Recently, they have added some new ways of filtering your tasks.
This is what I have been waiting for!

4. How & Why to Build an Effective Work Environment
Просмотров 70Месяц назад
It’s obvious that managing our time well can make us more effective. It’s obvious that managing our energy well can make us more effective. But what about our environment? What about the place that we work? What about our surroundings as we do so? This too is critical and can make the difference between an effective day and distracted day.
3. What is the most Effective Tool Stack to get stuff done?
Просмотров 109Месяц назад
It’s a well known fact that a bad workman always blames his tools. This is true. To that I reply, that a good workman always ensures he has the right tools before he starts! Our question today: What is the most effective tool stack for managing our lives and our work with all the complexities that we need to navigate? There are more and more tools and apps on offer - all doing different things....
2. Effective Daily Planning
Просмотров 122Месяц назад
If we don't have a plan we will pick our targets based on what we see first and what shouts the loudest or looks the scariest rather than what is necessarily best. It's called being ineffective. How can we be effective? We make a well considered plan. It really is well worth the time.

Is setting up a morning or an evening routine is going to helpful for you? The short answer is I believe pretty strongly that yes it is. The truth is that we all have some kind of morning and evening routine - that’s not in any doubt. The question is whether or not it is one we have actively decided upon or whether or not we have passively fallen into it. The E|F Podcast is now coming to RUclip...

Evernote vs UpNote - Let's go head to head
Costs were also the decisive factor for me, in the meantime I love upnote, I can still do without emails at the moment
I am actually looking at Evernote again. I got a very cheap deal for a year. One month in I think Evernote has much improved since I did this video, but I still don't think it is worth the full price they charge. So I will likely stick with upnote in the long term
@@effectivefaithFor me, the advantages clearly outweigh the disadvantages. With evernote, I don't know what's still to come, positive or negative.
This is my first video of yours I am watching because after 14 years, I'm just so frustrated with Evernote. Not because of the cost, but because it just never works well for me on my PC or Android. I never thought OneNote could substitute, because OneNote can't search attachments and doesn't have a good tagging method. The one thing I'm not sure if UpNote can do is nested tagging, but maybe I need to watch further into this video or other videos on that topic, or maybe I need to reverse notebooks and tags on UpNote vs Evernote.
UpNote can't do nested tagging. However in many ways UpNotes notebooks function the same as Evernotes tags. UpNote can't search inside attachments either.
@@effectivefaith Thank you for the quick response. If UpNote can't search attachments yet, they may have to pass for now, but I'll keep watching this space then. For all the reasons you mentioned, it's the most promising to replace Evernote, and Evernote's performance is going down while it's price is going up.
Good UpNote option is ALT [1-8] to color text, and ALT SHIFT [1-8] to highlight text. It's very useful. Evernote and Notion do not give us this option.
Thanks, I actually use those shortcuts all the time now I have discovered them.
effectivefaith.medium.com/journalling-in-twos-app-b91d079f23b9
Are you testing the Twos App?
I'm using it as a digital journal, outside my normal system of apps
Thank you so much for this video. I have been using UpNote as a language tutor, where a notebook represents a course. I love the idea of a dashboard, it will certainly help me to work more smoothly!
Glad to be able to help. Thanks so much for watching
After viewing your UpNote and Todoist using links had to see what else you have in your video catalog
Hopefully it's useful for you
fantastic series! always amazed that generous people like Chris are willing to just help others out by sharing something they are good at. this is the type of modern generous progressive society we could be! thank you so much.
Glad you have found it helpful
I've been looking for an alternative to OneNote for a while - your videos have made up my mind that this is what I've been looking for - appreciate the way. you deliver your content - many thanks
Ty
You are welcome
Being retired I no longer need a lot of tools. I have been working with computers since the 80’s and have used MANY applications to get things done in the work place of which several had been adopted by my managers and incorporated into the work place. BUT NOW I only need a couple: Google Calendar, Sorted3(Task Manager), UpNote, BankingApp, MoneyWiz (financial app), PasswordManager, and let’s not forget RUclips. :-) I try out other programs all the time but this is just for fun (or ‘just in case I find something better suited’) and for something to do being retired. I try my best to stay away from Subscription based software whenever possible but do use a couple). The main reason I still use computer applications is that they are SEARCHABLE which makes Pen & Paper the lowest on my totem pole.
I understand. I forgot to say pen and paper is not so easily searchable
Amazing video! Thanks! God bless you!
Thanks. I'm really glad it helped you
Have enjoyed this series thanks. Is there a keyboard shortcut that will take you from the body of a note back to the notes list?
I don't think so, still you can always use your mouse.
I'm glad you've enjoyed the series. I hope it's been helpful
@@effectivefaith Ok thanks. Perhaps it will appear in a future release. In the meantime I'll use AutoHotkey (Windows) to create one so that will work
I might look in to auto hotkey. Thanks for the tip
@@effectivefaith Bit of a learning curve but quite powerful once you get to grips with it
Is there any way to change the storage location? I want to point it to an external bigger SSD drive. This was also the issue with Evernote. Also, can we selectively sync Spaces, I don't want it to take up much space on mobile
I don't think either of these are possible right now. You can email support and they respond pretty promptly.
@@effectivefaith I did mail them, and they told it's not possible
Ok. Thanks. Sorry it took me a while to respond. Been a rough few weeks for various reasons
Just FYI, we call it P.E. In America as well.
Thanks - I'll stop taking my lead from Saved by the Bell!
How do you get this
It's a short cut widget available on android.
I just switched everything from Evernote to Upnote, I just wanna ask if it just me or it is a well known problem. Evernote is so laggy on my Huawei tablet. But works fine on laptop although not as smooth as Upnote. I struggle scrolling, editing, selecting texts in Evernote. I said enough is enough even I paid for a year subscription 3 weeks ago. I feel like I was scammed.
Because the free plan, Evernote was working fine but obviously there was limitations to note size so I decided to subscribe, and once the note become longer and added some pics to it, The app become unusable. 😢 I wish I saw your videos sooner.
I'm not sure about Evernote being laggy on tablets etc. I remember Evernote being a bit resource hungry when I used to use it. I loved Evernote so much but they made it so hard to keep using it that I had to find an alternative. UpNote does everything I need (minus one thing) and is so much cheaper and lighter it is near perfect for me.
there is no option to search for files inside other folders whemevr i press ctrl + G it shows all the files it makes it difficult to search it would really helpful if we a model/dialog comeup for search like in obsidian or vscode
You can search within a specific notebook with ctrl + F
@@effectivefaith oh yes Thank you very much😊❤ Also i would like to request features 1. changing projects using and files using keyboard shortcut just like in vscode using ctrl +tab and ctrl+R😀 2. Is there any way to develop plugins for Upnote it would be really Helpful 😇
Ctrl + shift + b will allow you to change notebooks for a note. There isn't a plugin system at present I don't think.
@@effectivefaith no its not changing its opening a tab where folders are shown but while clicking its adding current open file into it instead of Opening that folder
Great!!! I wait so long time!!!
Mee too!
I just wished we could add quick note from the notification panel/quick panel
Me too!
Yes - this would be a nice addition. Esp. if it was a quick capture box and not a whole new note creation.
Oh snaaaaap! This is great. Thanks. Vacation packing checklist is sooo long.
Glad this is helpful for you
Thank you for this video. I am one who will be leaving Evernote this fall when my subscription is over. I needed to know if I could export/import and this video is very helpful. I don't see one question I have addressed: I currently use Evernote Web and not the app on my laptop. In order to successfully export, do I need to download the app or can I just use the web version? The reason I ask is because I've searched for the export feature using the web version and cannot find it for the life of me! Thanks for your time. I'm going to watch the rest of this series. I use the notetaking apps in a bit of an unconventional manner: for craft supply inventory. I have 40 notebooks and 1700 notes, utilizing the tags and web clipper for photos the most.
Hi. I am not sure if you can export notes from Evernote web. Sorry.
Enjoying this series, even though I'm pretty proficient with UpNote already. Another shortcut for a divider is by typing /div but each to their own. I have three spaces for personal; university; and, photography - I love it. However, with the new Apple 18 update coming, the inbuilt Notes update is going to be a serious game changer so will be interesting to see if people switch.
Thanks. I think apple notes is a good option for many people....but only if you use all apple devices. I don't have any so it's not really viable for me.
Amazing content
Thank you
I have been using Notion for planning out content, but I switched to UpNote a while back, then switched back to Notion and now I've switched back to UpNote. Notion is just too slow for me, UpNote is so fast. I just need to be better organized, Notion can get quite complex but it's very good at organizing everything, but again too too slow. UpNote is much faster and easier to format the text. So I'll be storing content research in Notion, but do all my content planning in UpNote. You are the creator of UpNote?
Thanks for this video. I have had a similar "Journey" to trusted note app. I returned to Evernote but for the price we cannot do simple things like print etc. If I move to UpNote can I export all my notebooks from Evernote and then upload easily to UpNote? I would like to just get down to single Not app + ToDoist + Google Calendar if possible?
Finally understood how that reddit solution was supposed to go.. thanks for the video!
You're welcome. It's not my solution but I loved it and thought I'd make a video to highlight it
I must say the quality of the videos have improved drastically. The effort you have put in really shows. Quality content as always! Thank you for always sharing useful information.
Thank you. I've been trying to learn a bit about editing and add one or two things each time until I get the hang of it a bit.
Agreed
What are you talking about? I'm distracted by your blue dinosaur! LOL! Thanks for this. I've just heard about UpNote and also comparing. I use Evernote currently to archive info and to access it when I need passwords to shopping apps etc, when I'm out and about. (I often delete apps and update phones around every two years-I usually break or lose them!-so oftentimes I've forgotten the passwords.) so I'm hardly a power-user but I actually don't like Evernote's formatting (but it does work nicely for all the recipes I copy/input). For daily simplicity I use WorkFlowy but they started limiting functionality on the free version so I'm looking for something I can use on a daily basis to track personal tasks. (I'm in the process of moving so like to create to-dos for this "project.".)
The Blue Dinosaur had been confiscated! These things should not be used as weapons! I hope the video is valuable for you - these are just my thoughts and should be understood as such. Not long after posting this I wrote the below blog post about the problem with this type of comparison review. medium.com/@effectivefaith/the-problem-with-the-comparison-review-ca8d3bfb5541
yes i love quick capture
Me too
I prefer utilize the search based on tags and keywords rather than making each PARA folders.
Yeah that works too. I'm more of a hierarchical thinker myself. Hence I use folders.
How mucu does it take you, i mean how mucu do you "waste" on it as compared to weiting thr same content but wrhhout all the details and colors wtc ?
Hi. I'm really sorry but I don't really understand what you are asking?
Finding these 2nd brain videos really helpful mate. Also, as a pastor of a 20 schemes church plant in Glasgow is be really interested in how you might use up note in church organising or projects. God bless, Jim 👍🏻
Glad to be of help. Is there anything specific you are thinking of? I was a church operations manager for 13 years and whilst I didn't use UpNote then, I would follow the same system just in other apps.
This video gives a very basic overview of projects. ruclips.net/video/SLYTB62V4-0/видео.html
The central question is how to make it compatible with upnote workspaces??? how do you do it in your case
Honestly, the only use I have for workspaces is so that I don't show any of my real notes when making videos. Personally, separating things into workspaces is not a feature I see myself ever using. I'd rather have everything in one place for everyday use. The only way I see workspaces making sense is in apps where you collaborate with others. Then it makes it easier to manage and restrict access.
Thank you, I am also an Upnote user along with the PARA system. The perfect combination. I'm getting some nice info from your channel! Greetings from the Netherlands.
Thanks! Good to meet you and glad you are finding the videos helpful.
I wish to thank you for all you do to explain UpNote. It is remarkable. I've never seen such thorough and complete tutorials regarding any other app. By the way as of April 2024, I find I can select a whole row of a table with my mouse and then hit ctrl-c on my keyboard, and then paste it anywhere else in the table or outside the table , and it remains a table row. So I can copy and paste an entire row of a table, and it pastes as an entire row of a table.
Yes. I emailed the Devs about it and it and they implemented a change. They may have been working on it already but it changed about 3 weeks after I emailed. I am glad to be able to be helpful for you. Thank you for watching.
Very good advice here on visual impact, thanks! I am using the Windows UpNote app and had trouble duplicating what you did at the 5 minute mark when adding a red circle. Is that feature available in the Windows app?
Yeah. It's just an emoji. On windows, the general shortcut to access the emoji picker Win + . That means pressing the windows key and then full stop at the same time (or period key if you are from the USA)
@@effectivefaith Ahh, that makes sense... thanks!
Well after I found out there is no drawing, voice, email to note, or even reminders, I asked for a refund and got it. The developer informed me these features will never be considered or implemented.
Fair enough. Those aren't things that I will ever use or in need in a notes app.

Are dashboards a specific functionality of UpNote or is it a note with tables/links/tabs? Thanks and keep up the good job!
I made them myself using collapsible sections, tables and links
@@effectivefaith pretty neat and intuitive. Is there a way to create a table of contents for a particular notebook?
Not automatically. But if you select all the notes in the notebook you can copy all the links in one go. Then you can last them as a list and thats your ToC.
Your videos are so helpful. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, I have watched the whole series and purchased a lifetime subscription because this app is so amazing! Can you explain more about the webclip feature? How to get this button to appear on the browser? Also, I guess it's not available on Android, but if it was then it'd be really perfect for my needs, as I also use Upnote as a webclipper on my phone, but I do it manually - I select all, copy, paste, then I remove the irrelevant parts and also copy the link to the website to add a source, but if there was a way to add it automatically it'd be great!
I will do a video to showcase this. For now, The web clipper is available from the chrome website for browser like Chrome, Edge and Brave. For Firefox and Safari it would be their own version from their own plugin or extension store. It's free. Once you install it, you need to enable it and then you can pin it to your extension bar. On android, if UpNote is installed, it will be available using the share button on websites and in apps. Hope this helps.
That was helpful. Liked the code snippets idea ! Thanks for sharing
Glad it was helpful!
I wish Evernote had a lifetime option too
Yes, although extrapolating from experience of other apps it would be about £700-£1000.
Thank you. This video is really helpful and will most assuredly get me using UpNote more frequently!
Glad it was helpful!
Super cool. Have you checked out Simple Mind Pro? It's another $30/lifetime software that does mind mapping and I think it complements UpNote really well. The Simple Mind tutorials aren't great, but once you get the hang of it, it has an even larger 'visual impact' - let me know what you think
I will have a look. Thanks
Thank you, that was useful.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for a helpful summary and especially for the tip about using code snippets. You introduced me to UpNote when I was looking to move from Evernote. I now use Apple notes for short bits of routine info and Upnote for everything else.
You're very welcome!
