Hi, I've not come across a suggestion by the SRA that there must be a minimum number of hours of supervision. Potentially yes. However, you have a choice. From my experience the SRA seem unwilling to grant someone exemption from BOTH the SQE1 & the SQE2. As you passed the LPC they will grant you an exemption from the SQE1, simply by you uploading proof through your mySRA profile.

I contacted the (SRA) to inquire about applying for an exemption based on my work experience in the UK. They responded, stating: “We consider work experience in the UK that has been gained in your capacity as a qualified lawyer and meets threshold standards.” I can confirm that the nature of my job meets the standard threshold. However, I am unsure if they require a specific job title. So confusing

@@AurelaLela-j2v The job description is not important. It is the substance of what you do that counts. By the way, your supervisor may confirm, in their Letter of Reference, that they employed you becuase of your qualification as a foreign lawyer.

Yes, although, as a qualified lawyer you will be automatically exempt from the QWE requirement.

From what you write you would not be able to successfully apply for exemption from the SQE 1 exam, but it would be open to you to apply for exemption from the SQE2 exam. I have a similar situation. I am a foreign qualified lawyer with 2 year practice experience. I have also passed my LPC in England and has a Masters as well. I am currently a foreign qualified lawyer in a law firm in the UK. Will be exempted from both SQE 1 and 2?

@@iyfrans They seem to be reluctant to give exemption from both exams. So, it's likley to be a choice for you. Personally I'd take the SQE1 exemption. It's easier to get if you have passed the LPC and costs less.

You have to be qualified as a lawyer somewhere to ba able to apply for exemption from the SQE2 exam. More info here on making the application: www.hunningsconsultancy.co.uk/sqe2-exemption-for-foreign-lawyers-review-advice/ To get exemption from the SQE1 exam you either have to have takend & passed the LPC, which then you trade in for an an exemption from the SQE1 exam (if you've not sat the LPC, I can't see the point of doing this; you might as well sit the SQE1) or make an application, like the old 'Equvalent Means', which involves the creation of a large dossier to prove that you have extensive & deep knowledge & experience in many different practice areas so the SRA should exempt you (it seems to me that few people are like to be able to provide that proof and it's almost as much work as studting & sitting the SQE1 exam.)

I'm not sure and best to check with the SRA. There is also a paralegal qualification in Engalnd but is is not sufficient. Does the Ontario paralegal qualificaton qualify you as an Ontario lawyer? Does it give you the same practice rights and English solicitor? My suspicion is that, as the title suggest, it does not and you cannot apply for exemption from the SQE2 and will need to get your QWE confirmed. This is what the SRA write about Indian Qualified Lawyers & an application for exemption from the SQE2 exam: India Advocate You can apply for an individual SQE2 exemption. To do this, you will need to provide: - evidence that you have passed the All India Bar exam and evidence of your professional qualification with your local Bar, eg an admissions certificate or a certificate of good standing - or, if you qualified before 2010, evidence of your professional qualification, eg an admissions certificate or a certificate of good standing - a reference showing you have at least two years' legal work experience post-qualification as an Indian advocate - proof of your referee(s) professional qualification, eg an admissions certificate or a certificate of good standing.

It is unlikley that the SRA will grant you exemption from both exams. I've heard of several occasions where someone was granted exemption from SQE1 and then had that revoked when grnated an exemption fromt the SQE2 exam.

As a foreign qualified lawyer you would be exempt automatically from the QWE element. I believe that this exemptin is applied by the SRA once you submit proof of yur qualification which I believe you do through your mySA profile on the SRA website.
