JUNO 106 - Part 3 - Voice chip reconditioning
Просмотров 3,6 тыс.7 лет назад
In this video I remove voice chip 5 which has started to fail and recondition it by removing the black plastic coating. This coating apparently breaks down over the years and becomes slightly conducting so soaking the voice chip in acetone for a few days until it starts to peel away can bring these chips back to life. Well, it did this time and now all 6 voices are working on the JUNO.

Can I commission you to make one for me?
Please , where can i find this file - to restore factory patches? any idea where to download it? thanx
Bro get to the point! We dont care your wasting time
This is an absolutely killer build. Great Work!!
The piece you just made is called a Binding Post. The other knob you will be making next comes from an old WWII Weaver Scope.
Thanks. I know what to call it now. 👍🏻
Great build and love your attention to detail. You should get yourself some more subscribers to watch this fine content though. ;)
Thanks!
I do not want to jump the gun here (pun not intended) but do you plan to weather / blue this, or are you still waiting before such decisions are made.
I’m going to try anodising it black and grey, but loads of experimenting needed for that. Especially in the UK where acids are restricted.
@@jamesoshea9030 I relate. Being in Australia I would have loved to get a replica PkD, but just so hard. You can buy Aluminium black over the counter, but we are very similar in our restrictions to jolly old England.
Great to see you back at it, great project and if I might say great wrist watch! Looking forward to seeing the progress on the blaster, keep at it!👍
Thanks Dave.
I imagine you are a Blade Runner fan, and possibly therefore Sci fi fan? Once this is completed do you have future projects from movies in mind?
Well the obvious choice would be the 2049 officer K’s blaster, which I probably will do, but I also fancy making the gun from the James Bond film the Man With the Golden Gun… and everyone needs a lightsaber.
@@jamesoshea9030 After recently watching Adam Savages saber build (a few months *8 months ago now) and having commissioned a machinist to build one for me (I possess none of the skill's you admiringly display) I will await with great anticipation your choice for such a build. Do you think you might go cannon, or a personal design?
@@brettsalter3300 Probably personal. What direction did you go?
@@jamesoshea9030 can I send some pics to your email? apinchofsalter@gmail.com , or another way that suits?
@@jamesoshea9030Both of those i would lov to see you havvw go at James 😁🤵🔫
Great build. I am in awe of your concept of milling order. And excellent vids, excited to see the progress! for the thumb release (next video?): I wonder if the pip pusher had a slight angle on it to apply more pressure from the 'inside' of the cylinder pin so that the direction of least resistance is towards the outside of the gun (meaning that when thumb pressure is applied, it naturally tries to eject the cylinder without needing as much assist from gravity/wrist movement).
Good point. Makes sense to me...and thanks for the support.
Thrilled to see an update! It's looking beautiful.
Thanks
Wonderful to see you still working on such a beautiful piece of art.
Thanks Brett!
Thanks for sharing all of these videos mate.
Hi james, i am trying to reload factory presets. When i play the tone into the load input, i never get the two dashes on the display, and the “load” button light remains illuminated. As a trouble shooting technique, i tried to make it give me the Error display as you did in the video, with no success. The battery was replaced about 4 years ago, but could that still be my issue?
Great video, thanks! This is the best I've found for disassembly of the lower guides!
Are those all 2x4's or are did you use 1x4's for the tops of the bench?
Do you plan to revisit this project?
Yes, just trying to find the time
Hi James. This is absolutely incredible. What lathe and milling machine would you recommend for a beginner?
When you upload part10? This is so enjoyable to watch and I like your craftsmanship. Can’t wait to see the next video! Please:)
Good job James. I was thinking you would need a support leg in the middle but it looks pretty solid without it
Thanks. Yes, we regularly have 4 people sat on the upper bench and it’s plenty strong enough.
Hello James. Excellent video. Very informative and inspirational. I have a new to my Dore Westbury mark 2 arriving next week. I am preparing my own stand and have tried, without success to find the dimension of the hole required for the column and how far from the front edge the centre of that hole should be. Can you help? Andrew
The column is 2.5 inches so the hole should be around 65mm for clearance. Mine is set back 36cm from the front of the bench but the base of the Mill is set back 5cm from the edge too. So the column is around 31cm back from the front edge of the XY table.
65mm hole set back 31 cm from front edge of the mill which itself is set back 5cm from the front edge of the bench.
@@jamesoshea9030 Hi James. Many thanks for the reply and very useful dimensions. I am grateful to you. Andrew
No drain?
The door opens to the garden so we can simply wash the floor and brush the water out through the doorway. There's no vent either, the air comes in through the gap under the door and then we push the door open a bit when it feels like we need some air. Things are a little easier when it's an outside sauna.
Hi James - Thanks so much for your videos. A favor to ask. Would you be able to do a video demonstrating how Juno 106 patches/presets can be saved and ultimately restored? I just bought a 106 with many non-factory presets which I am desperate to save. (I need to replace the voice chips.) I'd be forever grateful for your help!!
Hi James, How did you get the threaded rectangular retaining plate into the rail of the tub?
T-slot nuts. I used the ones that have a little springy clip on the back (Flexlink brand) and they slot in from the top and spring into place in the slot so you don't need to slide them in from the open end (of which there isn't one).
Is the wood frame string enough for let’s say a 400lb machine?
I would add more bracing for that weight. The Dore-Westbury is heavy, but not 400 lbs - more like 200.
T-nut size?
I used some I had left over from some FlexLink 30mm aluminium profile project. I think the slot size of that stuff is 7.2mm. They weren't a perfect fit, but the worked. They were M6.
Size corrected
Hope to see more soon!
And amazing job. Congrats.
How much does it currently weigh?
Glad you’re back! Great work.
Thanks, I'll try not to let it slip again.
Yaaaaay.. I love this seried and was missing it.
Thanks for the encouragement!
So glad to see you back! Absolutely love your work.
Thank you! Cheers!
@@jamesoshea9030Will you be machining an all aluminium version of K's Blaster from Blade Runner2049 film? 😍🤩🤔🤷♂️🔩🔧🔫
I love this..
Thanks. I'm really hoping to get back to working on this next week. Thanks for the support.
Brilliant!
This is very interesting I wish I could hire someone to do this for me.
Thank you for this! I wanted to ask I see that the end going into the 1/4 jack on the synth is aux but is it usb plugged into the computer end or is it coming out the headphone jack on the computer?
I think it’s headphone jack to headphone jack, he just used a 1/4adapter to plug it into the Juno
This process has been wonderful to watch, I hope you continue the series.
Thanks. I'm really hoping to get back to working on this next week. It's been far too long.
Love this gun, and only just found this series on you tube. I imagine Adam Savage would be very interested in watching this, especially as he has only just built Hellboy's gun, The Samaritan, also machined from aluminium. Owning one of these (Blade runner guns) is unlikely for me, living in Australia. Sadly. Beautiful work and much ingenious planning in it's creation. Await future videos with great enthusiasm.
Thanks Brett. I really appreciate the support. Hoping to get back to this very soon.
Just soldered a new battery in place and loaded the patches back in place. And i must this was one of the coolest repair/restore jobs i've ever done 🙌
Can you use a eucalyptus garden bench inside the sauna? Does this type of wood secrete oils, does it get too hot?
Great looking benches. How much spacing did you use (gap) between the top planks of the bench? Are you happy with the result - next time would you make the gaps the same size?
The spacing is about half an inch. Works well. Comfortable enough and allows water to freely drain off the benches.
Did you do this because the load rating on commercial racks are 25kgs?
What Size of T-Nut did you use James?
I used some I had left over from some FlexLink 30mm aluminium profile project. I think the slot size of that stuff is 7.2mm. They weren't a perfect fit, but the worked. They were M6.

What a fantastic project James
Which wood is used for the walls?
It’s all Aspen. Got it from a sauna wood company and I’m very pleased that I did as there’s no warping happened over the years.
Good work, but consider pouring a concrete or epoxy granite base for the top. You'll gain a ton more rigidity.
Thanks John. I’ll try a concrete top when I get time. Also could do with a concrete pad as the timber floor in that part of the workshop is not very rigid.
Looks brilliant James Do you sell these?
Thanks. But no, just for fun. I could look into how much it would cost to make them.
@@jamesoshea9030 Hi James, thanks for your reply. I have spoken to a local fabrication company and they are going to make them for me. Thanks again for your idea.
Let me know if you plan on selling those , I have a 2017 tundra crew max and already have the T Slot rail system
Cool, thanks
Where did you get that blaster, Thanks

very helpfull thanks, could you provede some measures?
Certainly. What measures would you like? The benches are 58x208cm. The bottom one is 50cm from the floor to the seat surface and the upper one is 90cm from the floor.
