Quicker Way To Scale 3D Printed Helmets

    How did you cut a section out? When I use meshmixer and do a plane cut, it just cuts it when I put the plane. It doesn't let me create a section. It just makes 2 halves

    • @AstrocyteCosplay
      @AstrocyteCosplay Месяц назад

      Do 2 separate cuts. Do your first cut and then do a second one just below. If you say keep both both times you will end up with a section in the middle.

      I would say it depends on how much you will wear it. If it's just for short stints it probably ok to squeeze it. If you are wearing it all day for a cosplay then comfort is key. If it is tight or hurts at the start it's only going to get worse.

    This was the perfect video I needed, I'm an underage cosplayer trying to cosplay nikolai gogol and i felt bad that I wasn't making the cosplay from scratch that is mainly because of resources and skill, I can sew but my abilities are limited but i absolutely suck at drawing, though I've decided that I'm going to buy the cosplay and modify it slightly to make it more unique

    • @AstrocyteCosplay
      @AstrocyteCosplay Год назад

      Yes you are correct. With a lot of the helmets I'm not normally as worried about the z as I scale with uniform measurements (to keep portions looking correct) so as long as X and Y fit that's the main thing I am worried about. You can definitely factor in the neck section if you want it to be more accurate.

    • @AstrocyteCosplay
      @AstrocyteCosplay Год назад

      Hi, 0.16 should definitely work for 1/6 scale. It's a little hard not seeing what you are doing but if you are in meshmixer, under transform you need to put in 0.16 in the "scale X" box and if uniform scaling is on it will scale the model smaller. I have just done it myself in meshmixer to test it. Can I ask are you using 0.16 or 0,16. It needs to be a decimal not a comma. If you are still having problems message me on Instagram as you will be able to send me a photo this way or I can send you a short video. Hope this helps.

    • @AstrocyteCosplay
      @AstrocyteCosplay Год назад

      If you need something super accurate you might be better using something like fusion 360. For cosplay props a few mm is never going to matter as people are not going to be measuring your prop. Also it could be your actual machine as it can print differently based on the calibration of your machine. You could try printing a calibration cube and seeing if that comes out the correct measurements and that will tell you if it's your machine.

    • @AstrocyteCosplay

      No flexbond won't really fill your gaps. To seal the foam I normally use a heat gun that closes up the pores in the foam. You can use something like Kwik seal (I use a variation of this that I can get in Australia) or even foam clay to seal the gaps and seams.

    Most important thing, go and have fun! Number one, have fun. Be proud of your cosplay...stay away from thed toxic cosplay snobs. Be supportive of everyone. I was hoping toad would win...glad you enjoyed it.

      100% agreed. Some excellent points you mention here. At least Toad didn't come last like me! 🤣 I always play as Yoshi or Toad in the so I can understand that.

      Thank You!! I was just about to give up - the SHIFT KEY is the key (to make it work accurately) especially when using the "Snap to model points" option.

      @@AstrocyteCosplay Assume something similar could be done for gloves and forearm braces etc using a model of a hand or even arm.

      Yeah I'm sure that definitely possible and worth testing out. I personally haven't tried that yet. I tend to measure with cosplay calipers and Meshmixer for those type of armour pieces.

    thanks for the guide. One question, the Y measurement of the stl of the head includes the neck, right? but you have only measured the head

    • @AstrocyteCosplay
      @AstrocyteCosplay Год назад

      Yes correct in this case. I wasn't too worried as I use uniform scaling with helmets so portions look correct. As long as front to back and side to side fit I am happy enough. You could cut the bottom of the neck off the head model in Meshmixer if you would prefer it a bit more accurate. There is a tutorial on cutting files on the channel if you need some help.
