So these are super common here in the southern regions of Africa (especially South Africa and Zimbabwe). We call them Grass Slashers though. You can find them at pretty much any hardware store. They work nicely in most cases, though so does a nice sharp scythe. But ideally most of the time it's better to use a petrol powered weed Wacker.
Thank for the reply! Here in Southern California a gas powered weed wacker is more common, but sometimes I wish we could slow down a bit and go back to human powered tools. Yes it takes longer, but so much better for our physical ans spiritual health in the outdoors.
Great point on the grease.
Have you had this happen and it not “reset” or take a couple power cycles for it to move the ram again? That’s what’s happening with mine lately.
Haven't had that happen yet. I don't know what it's doing, but I can hear it click back in when I turn it off at the very end of the cycle.
This is exactly what was wrong with mine, thank you for the fix
Great video sir! Bg 85c job complete.
Does yours leak a little bit of fluid from the tube and it’s retracting back into the cylinder mine does it but I’m not sure if it’s from just lubricating the cylinder tube cause it doesn’t spill oil as it’s going out or as it’s splitting wood, but it is dripping oil as it’s going back in thereDoes yours do the same
I haven't had that happen. I usually leave the wing nut for the oil breather open all the time so it allows the oil to breathe.
Thank you . Just wondering because it’s not like it’s pouring. It looks like it’s from lubricating the tube. Not sure how normal it is .
Thank you! Just heated mine up on the grill and that cleaned it up
Great!
Worked great! Thanks
Thanks! Glad to help.
Great video, Thanks for helping us out! Running smoothly
Thanks, glad we were able to help!
The small one worked better than the big one. I like the idea of getting some exercise too.
I agree. I just used the small one this weekend to clean up a few weeds popping up. It's very handy!
Stihl regular 2 stroke oil worked perfectly well for decades. 50:1 with good gasoline. Don't run old gas. Dump the crap in your pickup truck. Your truck will never know the difference. The synthetic push is an EPA thing.
I agree. If I was to only choose Stihl Ultra or Stihl HP, I would choose the later, but I still like the results of the Amsoil Saber. Good Fresh gas is the key probably for all of it.
great video, precise and to the point, no fluff or loud music. This is the way to make how to videos.
Thank you!
Tank you problem fixed
Good to hear!
What is the fuse box model?
Jtron X001KJUK2T 6-Way RV Fuse Block.
We have done your solution in the past but now having the same problem and the filter is clean. What do we check next?
Sometimes the fuel filter needs to be replaced especially in backpack blowers. I'm thinking it might be a fuel starvation problem, hard to tell. Other than that it might need a carburetor adjustment or replacement. Hope you can resolve the issue.
I have one of these knife sharpeners. I need a leather belt where can I order another one.
sharpeningsupplies.com
Thank you for the video, it helped me make the decision to buy one. Exactly what I need.
Nice demonstration. I'm glad i went the Makita 40v range
The battery backpack is strenuous on your back
Mine will not cut a lot of logs but never does it stop like this it just won’t push them through? Is there something wrong with it?
No, just extremely hard wood.
All that for a bearing. Whew!
Best gardening/landscaping store in San Diego!
Thank you! We appreciate your support!
Just spoke to the dealer he said the clutch slides in without a press. Of course he has new parts he is working with. Thoughts on this because I thought they had to be pressed as well
I've never had one just slide in. You don't necessarily need a press sometimes I'll use a large vise for this. I think it's a good thing that it's a tight fit, and insures an even rotation in the machine. Thanks for bringing this up!
I used a dc dc stepdown(buck converter) also and it was sluggish to no go.But mine was the weatherproof silver fin box type. Then I tried the type where the electronics are exposed and you can ser the volts/amps and it worked fine. But if your var speed contoller cuts the volts( so as not to over volt the motor) then cool. One note is that(long term) you will go thru several dc brushed motor fans as opposed to using an ac box fan+ inverter.About 4-6 mths use and the bearings/brushes are toast.
Yes I agree about the 12v radiator fan motors. They seem to be cheaply built. I oil the bearings every once in a while when they squeak a bit.
mine cranks up fine idle good throttle up fine for about 45 seconds then the power drops to nothing acts like staving for gas wait few seconds and runs okay then reoccuring problem /
hard to tell. Possibly a dirty fuel filter or the tank not venting. Definitely sounds like it could be a fuel line issue. Any other ideas on this thread welcome.
Check valve clearance. My 600 did same thing Did valve clearance job, runs like new
@@neal197 Yes BR 600, 700, and 800 4mix. This is a BR 350, no valves.
This repair was a piece of cake because of your video. Really appreciate you outlining all the steps. Thank you so much!
Glad you were able to get it fixed. Thanks for watching!
Neat. But I'll take my gas weed trimmer any day. If used properly and its a good one, a proper gas trimmer would get that whole section done in 5-10 minutes.
I agree. If gas is not available, this may be another option. Or solar charging with battery powered equipment.
I love your set up. I got on here looking for a way to do the same concept and your video was the first i came upon. So after a year later, how's holding up. I'm in east texas and we have very hot humid days and we currently have several chickens that my wife is so worried about getting to hot. I want to make one for inside the coop at night and one for their run.
It still works great! I did try to run it off a 60 watt solar panel and it didn't have enough power. I also tried to reduce the 200 watt panel voltage down to 12v with a step down converter and it wouldn't get the fans going. So, I think the speed controllers are the ticket.
I take the fascia off and have that job done in a fraction of the time.
Yes, it could be faster that way, especially if you use a battery drill. Remove starter, then engine cover.
😮😊😊❤❤❤ excellent
when you are super tall it is easier
I'm 5' 8" , not to tall, but I do prefer the smaller grass whip. Thanks for the comment!
This video was a lifesaver! Thank so much brother!
Glad to help!
Very cool if you're only doing a small job, or if you can do 30-60min every other day and still keep up with the new growth. I suppose for larger jobs, it would be great to have one of those tractor PTO attachments with the long hedge trimmer blade (like what the DOT uses to maintain urban trails).
Sickle mower attachment.
No help in getting a saw to start. Sorry.
I have the same and can't get it balanced with the sling harness that comes with the trimmer
I guess you're limited to how far back you can put the strap. Batteries make the back a little heavy.
@@fischertoolandgarden Yes strap connects to trimmer in a non adjustable position.
Weed-whackers (and, in the fall, leaf-blowers) are a constant background hell noise here in southeast PA. I wielded a grass whip all the time as a teenage grunt landscaper; they're so easy to use. It's not like the engine-powered versions save that much labor. Also, thanks for mentioning how the plastic trimmer line, as it breaks up, goes willy-nilly into the landscape. Are there any trimmer lines that are biodegradable? I'm curious about that, but also feel like I'd be mocked by so many landscapers for even showing concern.
Thanks for the great reply! We have scythes, sickles, and weed whips for sale in our shop and most of what I hear is that it's to much work. Thanks for chiming in that the engine ones don't save that much labor. you still have to carry them around and swing them back and forth. As far as the biodegradable trimmer lines, I think Oregon makes one. Oddly enough, it is not available in California.
This video saved me from buying a new blower tomorrow morning before my first cut a fat blunt and we fixing the problem
Just bought a grass whip because I was dealing with grass is too long for my little electric weed eater. Got tired of the weed eater jamming repeatedly, eager to try it out and see how it goes.
I saw another video of a guy using one and he seemed to get into a rhythm while using it. If anything it will be a good cardio workout out in the fresh air!
I appreciate your enthusiasm. If you can keep that up for an hour at age 67, good for you! Im 61 and my back is still recovering from using a shovel. Ill be buying a more powerful trimmer. Gas powered if thats what it takes.
I like the exercise, too lazy to work out at a gym. I saw a guy on his 70th birthday cut 3 cords of wood with a crosscut saw. That has motivated me to try to do as much physical labor as I can, for as long as I can. Getting outdoors even using a gas trimmer is good exercise. Fortunately we grew up in a generation that spent lots of time outdoors doing physical activities!
If the batteries lasted longer or were a lot cheaper I would happily swap all my machines for cordless. Until then 2 stroke it is.
Very informative thank you! it helped a lot. Have a lovely day :o)
What if I did this and it is still not getting power to blow?
Fuel filter, Air filter, Carburetor adjustment or replacement? If the fuel filter and air filter are OK, I would try to hold the throttle wide open and try adjusting the High needle (H) on the carburetor. If it doesn't work, and the blower has good compression, I would probably replace the carburetor. I would probably check the exhaust port and muffler first for any blockage though.
Great clip, thx a lot, i did it like in your video, worked perfectly fine. THX a lot!!!!!!!
Did Stihl pay you?
No, I haven't been paid by anyone for any videos yet. I actually like the Echo hedge trimmers, but just wanted to share some mechanical knowledge to keep them running.
Have you considered a scythe? I will say in addition to helping one's golf swing, it looks very therapeutic for working out anger.
Yes, I have another video on an American scythe and scycle. The blades are made in Austria.
I remember family using a scythe when I was a child back in the 60s I'm in the UK but that manual one would kill me off lol
Damn, thanks man “WOW, this video just saved me 150 bucks” 😂 😆
Thank you so much for helping me out with this 👍👍👍👍
Your welcome! Thanks for watching.
here in France we have a stihl brush cutter which have 30% more power of FSA 135 model. For example with mode 1 i can effortless cut vegetation if not too dense. In light work in 1 mode i can work more than 1 hour with a AP 300s. The weight with battery is 7.5kgs so 1.5kgs less than a FS 361.
Yes, after doing this video the FSA 200 came out. I haven't tried it yet. Lots of people think battery equipment isn't powerful enough, but the only issue I've found is battery run time, which can be dealt with.
@@fischertoolandgarden I agree with you in regard to the machines power, in my case I have plenty of power on the FSA135 what I with need is battery time, and I have heard the FSA200 have about 12 minutes lees battery time, so I am not sure if I with trade my FSA135 for the FSA200. You saying battery time can be dealt with, how come? I have the MSA300 and for 8 hours work in the forest I either have to take a generator or a truck loaded with batteries. In a 18" oak log best I can got with MSA300 and the AP500 S batteries was 11 cuts. The machines are great, are a joy I have different Stihl ones, battery technology for commercial use still light years away.
Thank you very much for the video. I am going to buy the FSA 135 Battery Power. Your video was short and to the point. Thank you again.
Thanks Sergio. We've been a Stihl dealer for years and have never been let down by their products or warranty.
I have the FSA135 about 3 years, not this model but in bicycle handball configuration, I have used it beyond manufacturing recommendations so far never have a problem. I have use all kind blades the steaming line is the one very much not use, in did very much all I have are fields to clear off heavy brush. I also have used it with all batteries from AP200 to AP500S, sure it works with all this batteries but feels better balanced with AP300S however most times I use the AP500S because I with got few more minutes battery time. Myself I with buy this machine again. Stihl now comes up with FSA200 witch have little more power but by what I have heard is losing in battery time. I also have the GTA26, 161T, MSA220C, MSA300 and the BGA86, never have any problem with machines my observation is the machines are light years ahead of the battery technology for commercial use. If you are going to buy this machine or in did any Stihl machine that use AP batteries make sure you buy the battery charger 500 do not fail for any other one has I have don because ignorance and than later have to buy 2 five hundreds.
