How I saved $10,000 with a power company loophole #diy
After fighting with the power company for almost a year going back-and-forth on getting power back to our new house they wanted to charge me an extra $10,000 if I wanted to put a electric meter on our barn but if I ran the power to the house, then ran a private line from the house to the barn. It would only cost me $8000 instead of $18,000, is this manipulation would you do the same thing I don’t understand why they wouldn’t just give me power check out the video here’s some links below of controversial situation earlier in the year .

Leaving the insulation process up to the professionals, it’s worth the extra cost

honestly, I thought the same thing until I sat in it. It really does not obstruct your view at all .
I am the king of not doing things 100% "right" but since you used (smartly may I add) the gas line for the power, it may be a good idea to lay red tape or foil tape in the ditch just letting someone know it is not gas in the future.... but hey, I actually probably would have just buried it too! Great video Tom!
Haha. Yeah, you’re probably right but I’m hoping this is only temporary think after the power company realizes they might as well take more of my money for another meter since I already have power. I’ll probably end up putting primary in there so I can run a welder or something.
love how you softened that pipe! Really cool man
Yeah, it is a cool trick for sure
Great idea on repurposing the stuff from Demo jobs! That is a LONG run but hey, I am running my shed off of 16-3 extenstion cord! hahahaha
Haha. If it works, it works 🤷🏻♂️
Nice work Tom! That price for service is ridiculous. I work for a small utility company & it’s my job to quote these kind of projects. It wouldn’t cost anywhere near that price around here. They do like to charge that commercial rate when you have 2 meters on one address. Great video!! 👊🏻
Yeah, sure is crazy What things cost! I’m real close to the city of Pittsburgh. This area is booming with developments everywhere so I think they just feel they have everybody backed in the corner and charge outrageous prices 🤷🏻♂️
@ probably so!!
Man, I can't believe the way these companies try to gouge people. That exhaust tip is great, though. 👍🏻
Yeah, it works really well, especially when it’s cold out
What? $18k to stick a meter on a barn! That Toro Dingo sure came in handy. Smart idea to warm that pipe up. Great job saving a ton of many bro.
Thanks buddy 👍
Hey Tom , nice job on the trench . Glad you were able to work around the rip off power company . 👍🏻
Yeah it’s a little annoying having to jump through hoops.
Looks like the pack rat in you payed off a little. Along with your smarts and connections, and along with the right equipment, you did alright. Best part was the exhaust heater 👌 bang on buddy.
I noticed the savings too!
Haha. Thanks buddy
Good evening Tom, the trencher is a pretty cool machine. It does a beautiful job. Great work around with the power corporation. Have a good one, Ben 👋😎👍🍻
Thank you Ben, I appreciate that!
Good Evening Sir, OUTSTANDING idea for saving your money 👍🧐Great tip and Be Well Cheers 🍻🍻
Good evening! I appreciate that.
That’s the way to do it Tom!!👍👍
Tanks buddy
Good one Tom. Thats get it done. Got a kick out of you saying, temporary permanent. My son and I say that a lot when we are doing things. Have a great weekend. 👋👋👍🏻👍🏻
Haha! Yeah, it always seems like temporary turns into permanent that’s for sure
I hear horses arent the fastest way to go broke but they are the surest way. Nice addition to the farm. Hope you have been doing well
Whatever makes her happy 🤣
@fatefarmspa that's a successful philosophy
she did darn good with the axe some time ago! Nice to add some more critters to the farm Tom! I know your wife certainly loves horses. I have taken in numerous free cats and they are certainly not free themselves. Enjoy the horses! Will be great for the family Tom!
Haha yup ! Thanks buddy 👍
Where is their hay?.there is no grass on that brush land. Horses need adlib hay or decent grass to eat and water 24 hrs a day. Horses eat on average 18 hrs a day. If they go long periods without basic hay, green grass it causes colic, ulcers.those skinny horses need minimum 2 square bales each per day. As they are larger than those Shetlands, that live on fresh air. Have you wormed them? Have you had their teeth looked at? Have you had rabies shots? Those horses need high calorie hard feed. Sugar beet, topline mix, chaff . They are waiting to get fed hay. But you just stand there filming , needing attention. You could have put some hay out while filming for attention online. Sad to see.
Nice you guys can do that for your friends. Some company for the little horses too! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you
Hey Tom and family , cool you got the horses . It’s going to be interesting for sure . 👍🏻🇺🇸😂
Yeah, she’s been wanting to get some thing since we built the barn. Just haven’t had time and money with the house project. Hopefully they stay healthy.
@ I totally understand . When we got our second child thru college I was like you mean we have some move left after pay day . 😂😂
Size does matter lol. beautiful horses
🤣
Good Evening Sir, Very Nice Family Quality Time 👌👌😇😇👍👍Cheers 🍻🍻
Good evening, I appreciate that.
Those are beautiful horses for Jack and Jasper to hang out with 😊 The size difference doesn't seem to bother them 😂
It is funny seeing them next to each other how little Jack and Jasper really are 🤣
Haha poor Jasper. Well lots going on now and Tommy climbing everything he possibly can get his hands on. Looks like the farm is growing again.
Things are moving fast, buddy time to slow down a little bit 🤣
Good evening Tom
Good evening!
Jasper & Jack have a couple ladies! Alright. They all look like they are gonna get along. Hey, lets keep it, PG, huh.....hahaha 😂
🤣
Good one. That’s great. I was wondering about Jasper and Jack when I watched the last video. Had not seen them in a while. 👍🏻👍🏻👋👋
They’re living their best life now 🤣
Good evening Tom, I think it's a great deal. Going to be lots of interesting going ons this winter. We are definitely going to stay tuned 👋😎👍🍻
Thanks! I think so too!
I want one awesome
They are nice !
💪get some!
👍
greenlee has actual mousing kits with a mouse for every size pipe
You have done some research. There is a lot of cool options out there.
👷🏻♂️🚜🇨🇦I could use the Yanmar Track Steer to make roads around our Homestead! Great testing and first use!
Thank you
👷🏻♂️🚜🇨🇦That’s a nice BIG machine, I’m 5’11”…lol…we have the BX23S, AKA: “Clementine” with a bucket, backhoe and snowblower! I want the bushhog…we have lots of alders and low bushes!
The BX is a nice machine before we bought the property. I had a B 2650 cab machine then I traded it for a track skid steer since we did so much land clearing 👍
👷🏻♂️🚜🇨🇦Hi Tom…We are just starting out with our small Homestead/Farm….just 5 Acres and The Ole Church in Newfoundland, Canada! Read your BIO…we are video documenting our journey too. Question: any advice on things we should be doing to get more views and subscribers?
Nice to meet you ! I’ll swing over and check out your channel love seeing people doing similar stuff. I’ll be honest I got lucky I learned a lot from the gentleman down below in the comments Oakiwoodsman very good guy and great channel check them out 👍. As far as getting views and subscribers is keep putting videos out. I try to get one out a week and try to make them at least 10 / 15 minutes long . Short videos really boosted my channel. I got very lucky with one about nine months ago. It just hit the algorithm perfect and went viral. I believe it’s over 13 million views that took my channel from 1500 subscribers to 20k subscribers in less than two weeks time plus it boosted the views on a bunch of my other videos
wow! that loader seemed like it never stopped. Interesting geometry from my seat
Very powerful !
@@fatefarmspa just seemed like it went VERY high
The bobcat that was recently shown doing some work on my channel was brand new and the owner was just like you and preferred the foot and hand combo. I had no clue you could even do that. I figured everything was pilot control. You do well with it considering that you are not used to that format of control. Love it!
Yeah, I seen that bobcat on that video is very nice. Yeah unfortunately I was taught how to run equipment by a bunch of old-school guys so it was hand and foot control on skid loaders, and four lever on backhoes 🤣
@@fatefarmspa heck ya! All that matters is you can do it! Pilot control for me!
very interesting design Tom! I think you mentioned ASV was building that machine. That makes I believe 3 very similar machines more than likely. I think they are hydraulic over hydraulic. When you entered the cab, it looked a bit tight. Many operators would not fit very well. I am kinda shocked it doesn't come factory with a camera. out of all the machines that I think should have them, it is a CTL. The nature of the work is begging for it. I really like how accessible the back of the machine was when all the panel opened up. When they get dented like they will (especially with other guys using it) do you think they will operate ok?? We had a very hard time with the panels opening and shutting correctly on many of the CAT equipment after some time because of that very reason. I am VERY interested in this machine. You were talking like it was kinda heavy but I think that is great size. I am actually kinda shocked it is a 100HP machine! I would have guess like 65-85 with the 10klb weight. Thanks again!
Yeah, the cab looks small from the video, but it feels pretty comfortable. I would say for a larger overweight person. It might be a little tight. We’re actually purchasing this machine after we demoed it. We liked it so much. They gave us a good trade-in and also Our installing a camera for us, I feel it’s built very well. Seems like you could take a nice hit in the rear and still be OK.
@@fatefarmspa good to know man! I like your Yanmar stuff buddy. Just so you know, the Yanmar Dealer in Tulsa OK watched your video and then reached out to me because they are one of the places I got quotes on for new equipment. They said they saw my comment on here. Too funny
Love it!
Thanks!
..and I bet a treat to operate 👋😎👍
It is pretty cool
Not a bad looking machine. I don't think I could do the ISO pattern controls. I would have to do the H pattern on this one. Great review. This should help a lot of potential buyers out.
Thanks buddy. We did end up buying it for work, but I’m keeping my old-school hand and foot control at the farm. 🤣
@fatefarmspa that will be nice for work. 👍🏻
You're getting use to it fast
Only cause I have to 🤣
👍👍👍👍
👍
🎵👌😇👍✨🚀🍻
👍
That’s a sweet machine Tom!👍👍
Thanks buddy
Hey Tom , that is one sweet piece of equipment . 👍🏻
Thank you, sir
Nice review Tom……appreciate your thoughts 👍👏🇺🇸
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
Great machine Tom. 👍🏻. Im just wondering. If the loader is up a foot or two, and the machine becomes disabled, can you still open the door and get out. I’ve heard some machines have a flip up door to the roof. So if something screwy happens, you can get out. Im asking cause I don’t know much about these machines. Son in law has a Cat. Have a great day, and a great video. 👍🏻👍🏻👋👋
Yeah, that is a good question to ask the door is not able to open if the boom is up so high, but the whole top roof of the machine has a emergency pop off and it also has breakout glass in the rear which I thought was pretty cool my new Holland is the same way, but only has breakout glass in the rear
Thanks Tom. 👍🏻👍🏻👋👋
That is indeed a very nice machine. I do like how the engineers designed it with easy and quick maintenance in mind. The tracks makes for a smooth ride versus bouncy wheeled machines.
I thought that was pretty clever myself most machines you end up spending hours taking apart things just getting to the problem
Man that is a nice machine Tom. Lots of bells and whistles. All this tech does make me worry a bit about longevity, but if you need a new machine that’s the market now. I was shocked with how quiet it was in the cab. Thanks for the tour!
Yeah, I agree all this electronic stuff is another thing to break. Hopefully they have it pretty refined.
I don't want to evolve 😅. I like old gear. But that's the way things are going now. I had a grader out for a spin will all hand controls, and It didn't go well. Beautiful machine Tom and it would make a great addition to the farm.
I’m the same way, buddy🤣. I love old, mechanical equipment that you don’t need a computer degree to work on 👍
Good morning Tom, great review, looks like an awesome machine. Thanks for sharing, have a great week, Ben 👋😎👍🍻
Thank you, Ben,. It is pretty nice machine.
😏😎🤘🏻Awesome Skid! Worth the purchase! Thanks for the shoutout! 🙌🏻
Thank you and you are welcome 👍
