Honestly I'm worried. The show was perfect until the first class mage generic shonen tourney battle-planning exposition trash dump arc. The show didn't need a competition battle arc, and the fact that it was the longest arc of season 1, as well as the last, really left a sour taste in my mouth. Before that, the show was something truly unique. It really felt like something written by JRR Tolkien if he was born in Japan in the modern era. It was perfect. But then it became just another shonen during the first class mage arc. I liked Denken though.

MAL is a toxic website where stans for certain series can't accept their favorite series might not be everyone else's favorite. I generally take MAL's rankings with a grain of salt, but Frieren is objectively one of the best storylines and animation quality series in recent times. It may not be someone's particular favorite story or characters, but it is certainly well made.

Rudeus is how you make a powerful character done properly, sadly most OP characters in manga and every OP character in manhwas are done badly. Rudeus is a reasonable character who behaves realistically even when he can be a bit vanilla at times. His strength wasn't some blessing but the power of connections and hard work.
