Wish I could buy a sailing boat one day
Great footage and great breathhold! Was it hard to snorkel/Freedive in the pass with the current?
@@rutgerdenhertog5846 thanks. Snorkelling the pass was easy. On the north side of the pass there is always a weak incoming current, only when the pass meets the lagoon the current starts accelerating. Like all other sailors we took the dinghy with us and held it on a long line

H. M $. € £ ?😢
If this boat is so good why are you trying to sell it straight away after buying it? and why is no one buying it?
@@TheCominghome not sure where you are trying to go with your comment…we have plenty of interest and looking for the right buyer that will appreciate this wonderful and unique Trimaran.
Why would you buy a boat from California and almost straight away have it up for sale again...what's wrong with it? and then try and off load it in Australia and try and get back more than what you paid for it 2 years earlier? strange indeed and I would be very wary of this one, something must be wrong with it!! why is there blue paint over spray all over the motor and the hull to try and make it look new or at least better when it is clearly a very old motor that probably needs replacing!
@@TheCominghome we bought the boat to discover the South Pacific islands, since our budget was limited we didn’t manage to take more than two years off work. That we would sell her after that period was clear from the beginning on. The motor was painted new in 2021 when a overhaul was done, I don’t understand how that should be something bad, Perkins engine are built to last much longer then modern engines when taken care of. I don’t know what should be a better proof of seaworthiness than crossing the Pacific, it’s not my first ocean crossing and I wouldn’t put the life of my crew and myself in risk sailing a boat that is not ready to face the worst conditions.
I have seen other videos where Dynema rigging get very loose with temperature changes
@@Quinotico hi, Dynema contracts when getting hot and expands when getting cold, while your mast reacts the other way round. In praxis this was never an issue for us, but I heard it can become an issue if you are sailing in regions with extrem temperature changes.
@NiklausWildisen Thanks for the insight. I hope for the best for alternative rigging replacement cheaper and reliable for when I get a boat🤣
You know you could have , beached your, boat on that nice beach, those cats stand really well, I would be parking on beaches, all the time, lovely boat!.
Hey there nikalaus, I like your boat, why don't you trace some of your childhood maps, and drawings, onto the hulls, it would look great, good luck and god bless,
Amazing registers brothers!
There are scissors designed to cut kevlar that work far better than anything else I've tried for cutting UHMWPE.
@@jeffdege4786 nice, thanks for sharing.
Great vide9 n happy u made it
Love your videos n thinking n of buying your trimiran
Hey, thanks for comment. Mindelo is for sale, we just arrived in Bundaberg and welcome visitors. Fair winds!
Has it been sold n if not where abouts it located?
@@DennisMacdonald-r7d the planned sale didn’t go trough because of unexpected health problems of the intended buyer, so yes, Mindelo is still for sale. We will arrive in Bundaberg within the next two weeks. You can write me on niklaus.wildisen@gmail.com
Awesome stuff man
What do you think about TIKI 30?
@@DaniloGarcia-tq5zc i sailed one in Brasil and I liked it a lot, we were four people and that wouldn’t have been as comfortable as on a T26. But go as small as you can to fit your needs
Hello Niklaus, I am trying to contact you regarding buying Mindelo. Can you please get back to me. Cheers, Pete Cranfield
@@petercranfield4726 hi Peter. I made you an email. Sorry for the late answer, we have been sailing offshore
May ask how many feet is your boat?
@@simonanigan5141 26ft.
Ahhhh, got it... :)
Hi. Is it 12mm dyneema?
I own the same boat with a cutter rig. Great boats
It would be interesting to test it with the thimbles attached.
@@Andyfunsail I agree. But I am sure the breaking strength would be even higher. The breaking strength without the thimbles is already more than high enough.
@@NiklausWildisen definitely and it showed how a small bending radius is so bad for the strength of the dyneema. One of the RUclips channels just connected their dyneema to a ring 😅 Maybe you can take one of your deadeyes back to the university for a test when you head back home at some point. It'll be interesting to see if the strength has degraded from UV. I'm rigging my 1979 Wauquiez ketch in dyneema at the moment :) thanks for sharing your experiences.
@@Andyfunsail I would be curious too about how much UV weakens the Dyneema over time. So far there is only a bit of change in colour in the parts I didn’t cover in an abrasion sleeve. Good luck with your rigging! The moment you can take the old stainless cables away really is a good feeling.
@@NiklausWildisenthank you

incredible how this small 26' catamaran is probably more comfortable than a 40' monohaul in those conditions.
I really like your deck pod. I don't suppose you have any design drawings for it. Id like to do something similar on mine when it's built
@@michaelpenfold9718 hi, thanks for your comment. Sadly I don’t have a plan, but I know several people built a similar pod, maybe you find something online..
Great example of a great design. I remember back in the 1970s when tris were real popular I always like Norm Cross designs. Would be nice to know the price.

This is a wonderful adventure with great narration, photography and friendly interaction with the local population, especially with the Guinea Bissau people. Memories for life for you.
What I love about the boat is how safe the cockpit is. Very difficult to fall off the boat.
@@tonyaustin4629 I agree, and it’s also very protected from the elements
@@NiklausWildisen@NiklausWildisen When all is considered, Quality, Function, and form, in that order, are the values of design. It may look to stand on the deck with mist blowing in your face, but reducing the chances of falling overboard denied superb FUnction.
oh noo, i thought you just started circumnavigating our beautiful planet ! na dann vielleicht mal am Vierwaldstätter See. fair winds

Kind of strange to buy that ship in such an expensive area then take it to a place where you will lose money on it. Unfortunate you guys couldn’t go full time. Good luck!
It happens more often than you think
I owned a Cross 42 back in the eighties. They are wonderful cruising boats. Whomever buys this will soon realize how great this design was/is.
Some lucky person is going to get a beautiful cruising home.

the authorities are not strict on visiting Fatu Hiva before checking in?
There is no longer the possibility to check-in in Fatu Hiva so we had to move to Hiva Oa to do the check in.
@@NiklausWildisen authorities on Fatu Hiva didn't mind you there, prior to checking in?
@@willyum1208 No. As much as we could tell there are no authorities on Fatu Hiva, but there are checks from time to time, I guess executed by boats coming from Hiva Oa.
Congratulations on a successful crossing without any major incidents 🎉
Great vid ... really nice touch at the end adding the local church song that you recorded. She looks like a really good boat, a good ocean crosser.
Thank you 😊
Nice boat, nice journey, nice crew, good video. Thanks.

Fair winds and hope to see you soon
Amazing!!!!!! You did it guys! So proud of you all! Miss youuuu 🫶🏽
bravo babouyeuux !!!!!
Well done 👏
really nice wooden yacht…that well protected helm, and spacious cockpit should make the most challenging shifts comfortable…
Safe travels 😊
Nice old trimeran ... With an excellent cockpit layout.. One day perhapse you could fit more solar and an electric motor.. that way you can motor at 5-6 nots just on solar as long as you have sun light. Rather than have to sit days in the doldrums all through the day.
An electric engine would be a dream indeed. Our Perkins is very reliable and quiet economic but motoring without emissions would be something else
@@NiklausWildisen A DIY auxiliary electric pod motors or outboard conversion is not that hard to build ... The extra solar and a battery system to store it is more tricky but it will get cheaper and easier very quickly.. Look at the Windelo's for inspiration .. but also other U Tube diy conversions. 🤞🏻👍🏼🧙🏼♂️
Love watching this😍 looking forward to my own pacific crossing in the future!
