Album Review | "Am I Okay?" by Megan Moroney
The breakthrough female country artist of the moment, Megan has a cool yet relatable vibe. Her first album 'Lucky' from 2023 had several good tracks that rightly put her on the map. Producer Kristian Bush returns for album number two 'Am I Okay?' How does it stack up from her debut just over a year ago?

Really nice! I like the way you both rank and rate, which makes it more multidimensional, giving a sense of where each one stands compared to the rest of the list, while also giving each album a place where it stands among all of your albums. While I didn’t agree with all of either your ratings or rankings, I did agree with many. And you justified all of both and forced me to reconsider. BBLY is one that many people have being pushing me to reconsider, as it has never been one of my favorites. Same with 15 BO. Now, I know I need to go back and listen again. On the other hand, for me. both HOLLAND and CARL & THE PASSIONS are two of my favorites and both at least 3&½ star albums, and more like 4. I admit, though, that I may be biased as I saw that version of the band, the most of all of my years loving and seeing them perform live and that incarnation is still my favorite. And “Marcella” and “You Need a Mess of Help (to Stand Alone)” are two of my favorite BB songs. And they performed “Marcella” a lot back in those days, as did the Brian Wilson Band. But in any case, I really enjoyed your list, this video and your arguments for each and every position. Subscribed and will watch a lot more of your videos. And it also inspired me in making mine as I just start out my YT journey. Thank you so much. Keep up the good work.

@@ajmusic91you’re most welcome. And I forgot to say that while I treasure PET SOUNDS just a bit more, TODAY is so close for me that it’s almost a tie. For me, they almost belong together. And “Please Let Me Wonder”, might be tied for top spot as my favorite Beach Boys song of all time, with “Sail On, Sailor”. And actually, I probably listen to “Please Let Me Wonder” more. I have the UNSURPASSED MASTERS bootleg collection, and the volume for TODAY, is easily my favorite. And the takes, instrumental backing track sessions, vocal takes, mixes etc. for “Please Let Me Wonder” takes up one CD. And I have listened to that over and over for well over a decade. So good! Almost like listening to a symphony for me.

surfin' safari is what it sounds like : a bunch of kids. the beach boys were never a garage band. they were a living room band. surfin' usa is a HUGE improvement; a giant leap forward. the lonely sea is one of my all time favorite songs. the first glimpse we get of bw's more melancholy side. to me surfer girl, little Deuce Coupe, shut down volume 2, all summer long, Christmas album, TODAY! (my all time favorite album by ANYONE), summer days/nights, pet sounds, SMiLE! sessions, smiley smile (in the 70's this album was my favorite album by anyone of the previous decade, then i heard TODAY! and the doors's debut), wild honey, friends and 20/20 are all classic albums. i don't really count party! as a studio album. i could live without it. i like most of sunflower. i like much of surf's up. i really can't get into much of carl/passions and holland. i appreciate them more than i actually enjoy them. Mount Vernon and Fairway however is amazing. 15 big ones is/was a HUGE disappointment. the bb recorded it under duress. their label was threatening to sue them for not meeting the obligations of their contract. they owed the label two more records.they went into the studio and attempted to record two albums at once. they were going to record one album of covers and one album of new material, but the clock was ticking and they were running out of time. so they presented what they had recorded thus far as one album to buy them more time. this album should have been either all covers or all new material, not a mash-up. around this time they also recorded their second Christmas album hoping that would fullfill their contract, but the label rejected it. they did not want a Christmas album. it would take decades for this material /their second Christmas album to finally be released. LOVE YOU is my favorite album of the 70's. it is their last truly great, classic album. it was the last time they attempted to move forward. originally love you was to be a solo brian album called brian loves you. special note should be made of nearly every member of the band walked out during love you's recording process not knowing what to make of what brian was doing; dennis and carl MAY have hung around the studio more than the others. after this the bb stopped even atempting to move forward. mike love seized control of the band. they then proceeded to attempt and failed to regain their former, early era glory. i wish they had retired the BB name or retiring from recording after love you. the beach boys are my all time favorite band, but i do not listen to any of their post 1977 love you albums. even bruce says they sound like old men on MIU. l.a. light album has a very few good songs, but everything else post-love you i just wish would cease to exist. still crusin' to me isn't a studio album; just a compilation with left overs. That's Why God Made the Radio is a good reunion album. check out brian's unreleased albums sweet insanity and adult/child and brian and dennis's unreleased album the cocaine sessions aka the hamburger sessions.

The other astute move in the UK was not to release Human Nature as a single so you had to buy the album.

It's really surprising to see a person who mainly likes their early period and generally power metal songs dropping the 3rd album there and putting unia and ninth hour so high 😅 However, I'd disagree with how much difference most people seem to find between their albums. They never played pure and traditional power metal as Tony himself has said. They already started adding progressive elements/songs from silence like power of the one and increased a bit in the next 2 alums as you mentioned. The feeling of the main melodies remained similar throughout. The only thing is that the almost abandoned power metal since Unia and returned with Clear cold beyond, but other than that they kept their unique style to a large extent. To me it's really hard to rank their albums because I've got an unusually large number of somgs through their whole career I like more or less the same. Stone grows ger name and Talviyo are my least favourite, but I like all of them. Also, they've got some great bonus tracks that I'm surprised they aren't in the 'normal' album like No pain, They follow and in the dark.

I guess that is strange in a way. It's not completely that I'd rather listen to like Unia, or Stones Grow Her Name, over the third album on most days, it's more that for me the third album is a little chronologically disappointing, kind of similar in form but way less catchy than the first two :).

LOL, so "I saw her standing there" doesn't "have that energy"??! You lost me after that! And it's obviously NOT their "worst" studio album. "Ask me why" or "There's a place" are truly cool songs with interesting harmonies. AHDN is definitely their STRONGEST early album so it ranks right after Rubber Soul. The fact that you don't "get" the White Album says more about you than the album, tbh. MMT is not even an actual ALBUM, it's an EP with some of their greatest hits compiled on side 2! So it's absolutely RIDICULOUS to put that on TOP of the list!! So, the correct order is, with NONE of the albums being "bad", which you forgot to point out: 12) With the Beatles (iconic cover, but apart from "All my loving" there's not really anything great among their own songs, "Money" and "Postman" a killer covers, though) 11) Beatles for sale (the covers are weaker, but some of their own songs are better, especially "No reply") 9) Help (some of their only real "fillers" on here, but it has "Yesterday" and "Ticket to ride") 8) Please please me (started their career with "I saw her standing there" and never looked back, some very interesting songs on here). 7) AHDN (their first album with just their own songs, the strongest early album) 6) MMT (still not even an album, but if you consider it at all side 2 is too good to list it any lower) 5) Rubber Soul (their most fun album) 4) White Album (what can you say, it's their most diverse and personal album, just incredible - as long as you skip Revolution 9). 3) Sgt. Pepper's (no album by any band will EVER have that impact again) 2) Revolver (the strongest song collection) 1) Abbey Road (the albumiest album) You're welcome!!

"So, the correct order is, with NONE of the albums being "bad", which you forgot to point out" I said at the end they never made a bad album. Also a lot of your placements aren't that different to mine TBH we're just differring on smaller points of preference. Let's be real though had I not included 'MMT' people would be asking 'where is it?'

@@ajmusic91 Good for you that you said it at the end - do first things first next time, when people still might be listening. You CAN mention MMT - but you can't put the album where the Fab 4 had the least creative input on the TOP!!!

Honestly, you have taste up your ass. There are two basic Beatles fans - those who preferred their rock music, and the ones who prefer their cutesy pop music. You are clearly in the latter category, preferring the Beatles fluff. To someone like me, who was into their rock music, Magical Mystery Tour and Sgt. Peppers are among the Beatles' WORST albums.

I completely agree talking individual songs (I openly took shots at some of their cutesier songs throughout this vid lol), I just found their full albums more on the rocking side to be pretty uneven sadly.

My standard top 3.Voulez Vous/Super trouper/Arrival. Runners up(depending on the mood) The Album /The Visitors/ABBA(1975),no particular order. But on top of them there's a special category for emotional reasons ... The VOYAGE akbum.I ALWAYS end up listening to this getting wet eyed.

My favorite Abba album is Arrival. I was in high school when it came out and had a crush on my Spanish teacher so of course I loved When I Kissed the Teacher (didn’t really 😂) The opening to Dancing Queen then and now completely draws you in. I love Abba music. Nothing else compares in my opinion 🎶

I could understand most of their albums being someone's personal fave TBH. Many like Arrival most, some Visitors etc.

I completely agree with your ranking!! I would personally choose voulez vouz over super trouper, but overall, these two albums have an emotional impact with the nostalgic feeling and retro, 70s disco vibe. The arrangements of all the songs were just perfect! I'm only 16 but I'm absolutely obsessed with abba, thanks for your amazing ranking!

Thanks. Probably would've chosen Voulez-Vous over Super Trouper if it wasn't for "On and On and On" and "Lay All Your Love on Me," still a couple of disco numbers on it.

The crazy thing about Jan & Dean is that they put out "new albums" that were actually just compilations, such as "Popsicle" (as you had mentioned), and then other albums that were presented as "greatest hits compilations" but actually weren't. These would include "Jan & Dean's Golden Hits" which only contained a few hits and singles, and were primarily newly recorded album tracks. They also had live albums which weren't really entirely live, Jan & Dean albums that weren't really Jan & Dean, and a primarily instrumental album that only had Jan & Dean on 4 tracks. Yeah, they were quite interesting and unique!

Thanks for doing this, well over due. IMO he ****ed up his legacy between ‘02-‘13, I’d do a ranking w/o the karaoke. As an American I’d rate “OOO” much higher (4 massive singles in the US, “Camouflage” is great straight thru. He couldn’t keep making EPTAS year after year, he had to change with the times. My top 10 - 1. EPTAS 2. NADM 3. FL&FF 4. TIY 5. GA 6. ANOTT 7. Camouflage 8. OOO 9. BHMF 10. Time

Thanks for the comment. Interesting to see some 'Camouflage' and 'Time' in someone's top 10 :). The time period of the karaoke was indeed pretty long to get through, but pretty much none of that stuff was as bad as 'Human' for me and the stuff afterwards wasn't a whole lot better neither. I basically just think he has two different careers before and after '83. Until that year I think his consistency was very high but after that, lots of 'soft music' and general inconsistency. I think those who say he lost it in '75 or '78 are mad though.

I don't rule out fine-tuning my approach but whatever music is there I'll be talking over it anyhow. Also, ten secs per thought on each song and the vid's already pretty long so there wouldn't be much music anyway. Sorry this vid isn't what you thought it would be I guess lol.
