Aaron's Music Rankings
Новая Зеландия
Добавлен 31 авг 2020
I'm Aaron, a New Zealand guy who loves music discussion and mostly ranking and comparing album catalogues. Mostly in rock, pop, sometimes country, very occasionally metal, but I have no fixed genre rule. I often find myself with an unpopular opinion or two. If you don't mind that, welcome!
Ranking All 10 Miranda Lambert Albums From Worst to Best
My first female country ranking! Miranda Lambert has been honored with more Academy of Country Music Awards than any artist in history. This checks out. Her discography ran the risk at times of being too consistent to make for an interesting video, know what I mean?

My band from way back! I'd heard nearly everything previously except for 'Carnival of Souls' and most of 'Psycho Circus.' Wish I could go back in time to late 2000s and experience especially some of the 80s bangers like "Heaven's on Fire" and "Lick It Up" for the first time again, but this was still fun (also no live or solo stuff included). 00:00 Intro 00:47 20th 2:20 19th 3:35 18th 4:33 17th ...

You are probably the only person on Earth who thinks Hot in the Shade is better than Revenge.
I get such comments a lot. I don't mean to have unpopular opinions, but I do think they can make these vids more fun (sometimes).
I'm only familiar with the name Miranda Lambert. Do not know her music. Enjoyed the video none the less. Thank you.
Thanks so much!
Wow! I can’t believe how low little pad is in your rankings!
You definitely dislike the Wild Honey and Friends albums and like 20/20 a lot more than I do. Little Bird, She Knows Me Too Well, God Only Knows are in the top 20 all day for me...perhaps top ten. Warmth of the Sun and Darlin' in the 80s? Nice choice of Please Let Me Wonder at #1. It's fantastic. Kudos on taking the time and effort to compile.
RARO at # 17 LOLOLOLOLOL Stick to listening to Milli Vanilli.
Who's he?
Enjoyed listening to your ranking mate, of course everyone will have a different list, and yes Rock and Roll over would be a top five for me, but then again so would the Elder, and a lot of folk hate that, so were all a bit different, but mostly your list is not too far from mine. My bottom three are Carnival, Monster and Hot in The Shade, all the rest i like to varying degrees Best Wishes from Scotland
I don't rank them,I just listen to them. All of them. ...good day🎉 Rock on!
Same to you!
6. Creatures of the Night. A crossroads for KISS 💋. KISS producer Michael James Jackson suggested that KISS wrote with outside writers. He suggested a young Metro Vancouver singer and songwriter named Bryan Adams. My favorite songs from this album. Rock and Roll Hell ➕ War Machine. Written by Bryan Adams, Jim Vallance and Gene Simmons. Rock and Roll Hell. Bryan Adams added a few elements to the existing song, same title, which was recorded by BTO. Jim Vallance presented that song 🎵, with the addition by Adams, to Gene Simmons. He complained that it needed a 3rd verse! 🙄 Then, he said he would add it! Vallance was perplexed 😖. Simmons finished the 3rd verse. Thus, KISS released that version. Simmons only asked a modest percentage for royalties, which Adams and Jim Vallance agreed 👍. At first Vallance felt empty. Years later, he and Adams realized that the ex school teacher Gene Simmons taught a lesson on negotiations! L 🤣 L Bulk if this is from the Jim Vallance web page for Rock and Roll Hell.
Not the list I thought I’d see. But that’s your opinion. Everyone is different but yeah RARO at 17? Never seen that coming.
I like (unintentionally) giving moments like that. A lot of rock fans in the comments demanding conformity, it's weird to me :p.
One question about this list , why is Rock N Roll over at # 17 & Dynasty # 1 ? They should be flip flopped .
Love Dynasty. Don't love R&RO.
I listened to The Offspring as a teenager through the 90s, and I agree that Ixnay is their best album. For me, Ixnay, Smash, and Americana are the top 3, with Ignition close behind. Honestly, I can't get into anything they did after and including Conspiracy of One. They've always managed to put out the odd great single, but nothing that really rivals their amazing run of albums in the 90s. Not common to hear someone talk about them at all, so I appreciate you taking the time to discuss them!
Thanks!
Dressed to Kill above Creatures Of The Night?? RnR Over at 17?? Jeez, this is terrible.
IMO DTK really fully established their typical sound for the 70s like COTN did for the 80s 🤷♂️. Their first 2 were good but kind of outliers in sound.
Destroyer is the top of the mountain. It was the quintessential Kiss. Nothing is even a close second.
Totally get that viewpoint.
Sorry. Stopped it as soon as I saw Rock n Roll Over at 17. That’s absolutely nuts. It’s my number one by the way
Most of the 70s stuff is in my top 10 minimum, but us all liking the same stuff would be boring!
@ Yeah i know dude. I’m not expecting everyone to put it one like me but to suggest they have 16 better albums than Rock n Roll Over is bonkers Lol but hey, it’s your channel not mine.
Rock And Roll Over #17…That’s insane.
@@matthewharvey6459I watch a lot of album rankings and it’s right up there as the most insane
It's not that good 🤷♂️.
Favorite band as a kid that I've recently been coming back to. I have copies of every album except for Hot in the Shade, Carnival and Psycho. I've heard them a few times but never sat with them enough (same for Monster and Sonic Boom) so I'm keeping those off my list until I get in more listens. 1. Rock and Roll Over ***** 2. Hotter Than Hell ****1/2 3. Unmasked ****1/2 4. The Elder **** 5. Creatures ***1/2 6. Revenge ***1/2 7. KISS ***1/2 8. Love Gun ***1/2 9. Lick It Up *** 10. Dynasty *** 11. Crazy Nights *** 12. Animalize **1/2 13. Dressed to Kill **1/2 14. Destroyer **1/2 15. Asylum ** 16. Hot in the Shade **
Stars didn't come out right but the order is correct 😂
Thanks! Destroyer at 14th? Jeez, and a couple of the comments are coming at me for not liking Rock and Roll Over that much :D.
Sorry... But Blue Moves is way too low in my opinion. Great video though, you make great points about each record
Thanks man.
@@ajmusic91 yesssir 👍. I get that Blue Moves takes some effort on the listener, cause it is Elton's longest record, nearly an hour and a half. I just happen to love almost every minute of it for whatever reason 😍
Rock and Roll Over at #17 ???????????? Are you nuts? I can't take the rest of the list seriously
I am a little nuts.
@@ajmusic91 funny shit dude the rest of the list was good. I appreciate a honest take, I like Rock N Roll over more too, BUT most people HATE Dynasty and I love it too.
I stopped the video as soon as I saw that
Appreciate that Joey :)
I myself find it extraordinarily hard to "rank" The Beatles albums. The Beatles are my all time favorite music act, and every album has some all-time classics. That being said, being that my two favorite songs of all time (regardless of artist) are "Twist And Shout" and "Please Please Me", maybe that means that the "Please Please Me" album would be number one for me? Is that how that works?
Just go with your gut! :) That said, that would be quite a pick for #1 Beatles album, even as a guy who finds himself having unpopular opinions all the time :p.
HUGE fan of the music of Buddy Holly. Admittedly, I am unfamiliar with his albums, as I have bought his "greatest hits"-type CDs over the years. I really enjoy the 3 CD set named "Buddy Holly Platinum Collection". It's a set with 60 (!) of Buddy Holly's best.
His '57 and '58 albums are both great in their own right. Have to be two of the better albums from before the 'full album era' that kind of started during the mid-60s.
Enjoyed listening man, big stratofan , kotipelto voice and jens key solos are superb , surprised to see the modern era albums in your top choices , im a classic strato guy , ROCK ON !
Thanks man, yeah, I'm all about the unpopular opinion sometimes - not on purpose though!
My ranking: Ixnay on the Hombre (1997) Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace (2008) Ignition (1992) Americana (1998) Smash (1994) Days Go By (2012) Conspiracy of One (2000) Splinter (2003) Let the Bad Times Roll (2021) The Offspring (1989)
Thanks man. Team Ixnay!
Part Time love from "A Single Man" peaked around #20 I think in fall/winter of 1978. Very catchy tune and would have been huge if released a few years earlier.
Here's my top 10: 1. Goodbye Yellow Brick Rd 2. Don't Shoot Me 3. Captain Fantastic 4. Breaking Hearts 5. Jump Up 6. Rock of the Westies 7. The Fox 8. 21 at 33 9. Too Low for Zero 10. Honky Chateau I agree with many of your comments especially the boring "The Diving Board". That one, "The Big Picture" and Peachtree Road are all near the bottom of my list with Blue Moves not far behind. I like catchy melodic pop-rock songs. "Where Have All the good Times Gone" from Jump Up is one my all time favorite Elton songs. Reminds me a little of Philadelphia Freedom.
Thanks! We're in a similar ballpark with a bunch of these :)
Great list. 👍. Disagree with you about Blue Moves, that's my second favorite album from him. It's all good though
Ixnay at #1 was shocking to me, lol! It's a good album but being sandwiched in between two classics is hard and for me it's just not as good as those two. Way Down The Line is my favorite and I did always like Don't Pick It Up too!
Hey there. Yeah, it's one of those things where I can't fully justify why, the tunes on Ixnay just all land for me somehow.
kiss is so iconic! love it😍
Thanks, agree.
their early sruf stuff is mediocre they didnt get good until All Summer Long and the Post-SMiLE era is one of their most acclaimed and beloved periods wow
Once you put Wild Honey & Holland,at 17 & 15,I gave up,also the last 4 songs on TWGMTR,for me are superb.
They're just two albums somewhere for me around the middle of a pretty large discography, but fair enough 🤷
Bayou Country all the way!!
Really nice! I like the way you both rank and rate, which makes it more multidimensional, giving a sense of where each one stands compared to the rest of the list, while also giving each album a place where it stands among all of your albums. While I didn’t agree with all of either your ratings or rankings, I did agree with many. And you justified all of both and forced me to reconsider. BBLY is one that many people have being pushing me to reconsider, as it has never been one of my favorites. Same with 15 BO. Now, I know I need to go back and listen again. On the other hand, for me. both HOLLAND and CARL & THE PASSIONS are two of my favorites and both at least 3&½ star albums, and more like 4. I admit, though, that I may be biased as I saw that version of the band, the most of all of my years loving and seeing them perform live and that incarnation is still my favorite. And “Marcella” and “You Need a Mess of Help (to Stand Alone)” are two of my favorite BB songs. And they performed “Marcella” a lot back in those days, as did the Brian Wilson Band. But in any case, I really enjoyed your list, this video and your arguments for each and every position. Subscribed and will watch a lot more of your videos. And it also inspired me in making mine as I just start out my YT journey. Thank you so much. Keep up the good work.
Really nice comment, thanks man! Welcome.
@@ajmusic91you’re most welcome. And I forgot to say that while I treasure PET SOUNDS just a bit more, TODAY is so close for me that it’s almost a tie. For me, they almost belong together. And “Please Let Me Wonder”, might be tied for top spot as my favorite Beach Boys song of all time, with “Sail On, Sailor”. And actually, I probably listen to “Please Let Me Wonder” more. I have the UNSURPASSED MASTERS bootleg collection, and the volume for TODAY, is easily my favorite. And the takes, instrumental backing track sessions, vocal takes, mixes etc. for “Please Let Me Wonder” takes up one CD. And I have listened to that over and over for well over a decade. So good! Almost like listening to a symphony for me.
surfin' safari is what it sounds like : a bunch of kids. the beach boys were never a garage band. they were a living room band. surfin' usa is a HUGE improvement; a giant leap forward. the lonely sea is one of my all time favorite songs. the first glimpse we get of bw's more melancholy side. to me surfer girl, little Deuce Coupe, shut down volume 2, all summer long, Christmas album, TODAY! (my all time favorite album by ANYONE), summer days/nights, pet sounds, SMiLE! sessions, smiley smile (in the 70's this album was my favorite album by anyone of the previous decade, then i heard TODAY! and the doors's debut), wild honey, friends and 20/20 are all classic albums. i don't really count party! as a studio album. i could live without it. i like most of sunflower. i like much of surf's up. i really can't get into much of carl/passions and holland. i appreciate them more than i actually enjoy them. Mount Vernon and Fairway however is amazing. 15 big ones is/was a HUGE disappointment. the bb recorded it under duress. their label was threatening to sue them for not meeting the obligations of their contract. they owed the label two more records.they went into the studio and attempted to record two albums at once. they were going to record one album of covers and one album of new material, but the clock was ticking and they were running out of time. so they presented what they had recorded thus far as one album to buy them more time. this album should have been either all covers or all new material, not a mash-up. around this time they also recorded their second Christmas album hoping that would fullfill their contract, but the label rejected it. they did not want a Christmas album. it would take decades for this material /their second Christmas album to finally be released. LOVE YOU is my favorite album of the 70's. it is their last truly great, classic album. it was the last time they attempted to move forward. originally love you was to be a solo brian album called brian loves you. special note should be made of nearly every member of the band walked out during love you's recording process not knowing what to make of what brian was doing; dennis and carl MAY have hung around the studio more than the others. after this the bb stopped even atempting to move forward. mike love seized control of the band. they then proceeded to attempt and failed to regain their former, early era glory. i wish they had retired the BB name or retiring from recording after love you. the beach boys are my all time favorite band, but i do not listen to any of their post 1977 love you albums. even bruce says they sound like old men on MIU. l.a. light album has a very few good songs, but everything else post-love you i just wish would cease to exist. still crusin' to me isn't a studio album; just a compilation with left overs. That's Why God Made the Radio is a good reunion album. check out brian's unreleased albums sweet insanity and adult/child and brian and dennis's unreleased album the cocaine sessions aka the hamburger sessions.
#7 and #4 shouldve been in top 3. those have classic songs
So few spots...
Yep Willie and the poor boys is a top 2 or 3 CCR album. In fact I’d put it second. Very surprised to see it ranked last. I’ve never seen that before
Ha. I didn't really know popular consensus for them except about 'Mardi Gras.' That's interesting. Honestly a lot of the albums are similar enough not a ton is separating them. I thought I kind of explained it I think. Not a big fan of 'Midnight Special' or 'Cotton Fields.' Edit: TBH 'Down on the Corner' isn't one of my absolute fave singles from them either.
@@ajmusic91 Yeah Mardi Gras is not as bad as it’s reputation
👍♥️🎸🐐🔥
Smile was more of an official Beach Boys album than Stars and Stripes! Not sure why people don't consider that in their ranking! Number 1 for me!
Loves it!!
I thought 29 was how many they did but apparently he skipped the Christmas album
Yeah, I know the Christmas album it's just weird for me to compare 1 Christmas album to the other 28.
Summer of Love would scrap the bottom of the barrel for me. Record scratching and Mike Love rap talking and saying in a bartone voice, "It's a Love Thing."
“So tough” is my hot take album. It’s in my top 5. Admittedly, it could have been better. There’s a playlist on Spotify that illustrates what it might have been like if they had fleshed it out more with other songs recorded during the same era called “Alternative Carl and The Passions” that I can’t recommend enough. (And no, I did not make it). 😊
Thanks man!
What about Stack O'Tracks?
That's more of a compilation, it's interesting though.
@@ajmusic91 unacceptable. Reshoot the entire video! 🤣🤣🤣

Did you get the trick on "Holland?"
very great review! well-formulated and structured opinions
Appreciate that, thank you :)
It was fun. A lot of people choose "15 Big Ones" as one of the worst albums, but you ranked it pretty high, which made me happy. It made me want to make my own Beach Boys ranking.
Thanks man :).
Thanks for this. Off The Wall ahead of Bad as it should be thanks to Rod Temperton. Thriller was released in that brief era when the cassette was king and the great tracks were cleverly placed in sequence. The other astute move in the UK was not to release Human Nature as a single so you had to buy the album.
Thanks. Yeah sequencing is key. 'Dangerous' for instance smashes five pretty similar songs all together at the start. Full third of the album has passed by with no tempo change lol.
Nah. Off the wall can't match the level of Bad
You got my like immediately for putting Rise and Fall where it belongs! Cool ranking, mine would be a bit different but I have no major issues with yours as I see where you're coming from. I also think Splinter and Conspiracy are underrated records. Cheers!
Thanks man!
Long time Beach Boys follower, friends with Al Jardine and some former back up band members. I agree with you on the ones considered weak, Beach Boys Today at # 1 is a Classic.
"Beach Boys Today at # 1 is a Classic." Thanks, I think :D.
Agree on Please Let Me Wonder!!!!
Same here.
I agree with many of your thoughts. That said, how you blew past Marcella on So Tough was a mystery to me.
Thanks! Just relistened to that one 'cause why not. It's good for sure, I get why it would be a major highlight for some.
VOYAGE has a special place in my heart.'Ring-Ring" my least fave one.Albums such as Super Trouper,The Visitors ,Voulez Vous,Arrival,The Album are one of a kind. All comparatively different all having a special magic.
For many years, "Pet Sounds" was the unquestioned, number one Beach Boys album... ...and then, I heard "The SMiLE Sessions". New Number One! 😄
Agreed!
Oh come on! Leaving out the smile sessions hurts me
Technically not a studio album to be fair
@DistantLights Not a studio album? It's as much a studio album as Pet Sounds! While it is incomplete, it was officially released in 2011. Too many people don't include this on their rankings. Meanwhile, Stars and Stripes is not a studio album, and gets put on most set lists for some reason.
@@truthtransistorradio6716 It was a historical compilation album / box set, not a studio album. Stars and Stripes is a studio album.
@@truthtransistorradio6716 it's a compilation album, technically, while Stars and Stripes, while Stars and Stripes was recorded, finished, and released
I would put Wild Honey, Smiley Smile, and Friends higher.. MIU and 15 Big Ones lower.. But I totally agree with Today! being at #1.
