    at 7:40 or so... the helicopter ride... I used to work (kind of) for a very large Internet Hardware company (rhymes with San Francisco) and to say I had free rein on expenses is an understatement. My customers were rural Telephone Companies and AK (and the entire ski / mountaineering west) was my playground! PS... used to be a WW Government Sales Manager for a big Japanese camera company that sold internal inspection equipment (think endoscopes but for engines, pipes, welds, cracks, and so on...). The North Slope Oil companies needed our stuff to save money to inspect their equipment. Anyway, even back then, I used my / that position to travel to cool places to help them, and to help me, to explore... which I did! A lot... Like a personal paid travel service so to speak. Had a great time to say the least. So I've been to the North Slope a ton, and Fairbanks, and Anchorage, but not the in-between... Now into bike packing for a few years now.... I'm doing this in early August and just starting watching videos and researching -- what time of year was this? Did you encounter any issues with crevasses (as it seems most people rope up)? Why did you have a harness on if you were going solo and didn't seem to use a rope to rap or anchor at any point?

    • @fatnomad
      @fatnomad 5 месяцев назад

      I believe this was late August/early September. I didn't have any issues with crevasses although there was one that was visible that I went around. I wore the harness because I had it and thought just in case I need rescuing better to be wearing one, or if I found a group I could rope up with then I would be prepared.

    Funny story re stealth camping... in Utah, near Boulder Town, there was THE perfect view-camp site with east looking views of the Henry Mountains, up on a ridge after the Burr Switchbacks. But everywhere there were "Don't even think about it" type no-camping signs. I was on my touring bike and thought, no way anyone could ever see me. So I set up, camped, watched a movie, etc. It got dark, I got out of the tent with my headlamp on, and BOOM, flashing lights in the distance turned on, and a patrol car came speeding my way. For maybe 2 hours I expected to be arrested or something... nothing happened, but it got my heart rate going! Another perfect video. TM, C Dale, CO
