1911 Barrel Bushings Explained (sort of)

Some points on the 1911 barrel bushing. Just a basic overview. Not the be all end all for sure, but maybe a question you may have had in the past gets answered.
Schauland Performance Match Grade .45 Extractor
Просмотров 6409 месяцев назад
This extractor was designed by me to reduce fitting time in modern 1911 slides. The hook is relieved to eliminate case interference and bevels are added to increase feeding reliably even when running at higher tension settings. They are made from US sourced 4140 steel, and are vacuum heat treated to deliver long life & consistent results.
I'd love to see you fit an all steel grip to one of these, too! Cheely E2 or something from Infinity would be swell!
Bright yellow or orange with a tritium vial for the front sight is my go to. That gets my vote!
Well, I don’t hate that.
Gold bead!
This is a fantastic video, thank you!
Fiber-Optic FS
I put gold dots on all my personal carry guns and they are fantastic in the right lighting. They are durable, require no batteries BUT FOR A RANGE TOY THEY ARE NOT MY PREFERENCE. Personal opinion.
Nice work. I think the Prodigy is a wonderful platform to do the kind of upgrades you are doing. I did a similar build with a 5”. Are you a proponent of porting these? I’ve been toying with it in a V10 configuration. Since these are range toys it seems like a fun discussion. I love the Marvel cut on the slide and it really makes for a smooth cocking and recoil. I have a 4.2” barreled gun that my wife loves and all I did was a minor adjustment to the sear spring. She is not a sophisticated shooter and likes the gun as it comes. Sight wise, I like what they come with. I’m new to Red Dots and chose Leu. DPP. They work nicely but my preference is iron sights / no red dot. I think this is due to my age and years of pistol experience w/o red dots. Thanks for the videos you do. You are a great sounding board to some nice builds. Please keep it up. Hope you had a good turkey day.
I second the gold bead. Thanks Rob on the update
Almost forgot! There’s a slight change to the trigger itself there too, along with a new ledge style barstock slide stop.
Always gold bead front sight
Subbed, don't have the Prodigy. Just got into the DS game with a MAC 9 and Tisas.
I agree with Rob about the percentage of importance of well fitted barrel bushing regarding accuracy. I've seen it myself with one of my rattle traps. Groups shrunk to half with that one mod.
Jeden Tag WAFFENMÜLL RUclips 💩💩💩💩💩💩👎👎👎👎😡😡😡😡 Mega kacke
as far as waay harder, farther.. what does that equate to as far as price point? average prodigy upgrade, basically a de-mim and parts polish seems to be around $500.. are we talking $1000, $1500? $2K? imo worth it to have your work applied to it but just trying to get an idea of what's what.
@@blaiseeltine9516 This is going to be an extreme gut job. Only things left original will be the barrel, grip, frame & slide. However, the barrel will likely be ported & have extensive modifications done in the upper and lower lug areas.
Very cool!
What are you considering regarding the finish?
@@donscott6130 DLC, maybe doing some hard chrome too.
Will you offer the comp version?
Sounds like a fantastic build, and I like your Sea Dweller Deepsea.
Very cool! I can already tell this will be a hit
Staying tuned.
Thanks Rob. Sounds like a great idea. I hope business is good…..
When you say making it a single lug barrel, do you mean removing one of the forward locking lugs, or removing both to make it a hood-locked gun more like a Wilson EDC X9?
Yes. Hood locked.
Can you explain more about hood locked vs traditional lug lock up?
😃 The hands are fine but the watch is cool. It has me thinking about this area on several now. How does the Harrison/Bunker compare to other approaches? Start with Les Baer then Wilson, Nighthawk, EB...
Good video
Great video!! Tell us about this cell phone to your right?😂
That's my "brick" phone.
Rob, what's with the hole in the Sear Spring?
It’s an EGW Evolved sear spring.
do you recommend any particular sear springs?
@@markdavidson7510 Depends on the application. Heavier, carry focused trigger jobs do well with the Wolff sear spring. Lighter triggers (2.5-3.5 pounds) are easier to achieve with the “Colt” sear spring or also commonly known as the C&S lightened sear spring. Lighter than that, the EGW evolved sear spring (shown in the video) is pretty good. Ultra light trigger pulls can be had with the Infinity Titanium sear spring.
Thanks Rob.
That's a 5/32" punch, btw. Sorry...old man moment.
Great stuff as always Rob
@@Mohel_Tactical Thanks.
Hey rob, what is the finish on this gun?
@@Dan-x4o3m Bead blast blue. It comes off pretty smooth on camera.
@@RobSchauland1911 Thanks, that is surprising, I think it looks pretty nice!
@@Dan-x4o3m It feels like velvet too. Must be the over-obsessive prep work and the mega soft bead blast prep I put on it before it hits the tanks.
Cool video. I like this format.
Thanks. I’ll stick with the birds eye view.
Grip safety relief cuts should be the industry standard.
It’s definitely heading that way.
Thanks Rob…I’ve been waiting for another video. You must be working too hard 😂 I hope business is good for you ….
Thanks for the video, Rob.
thanks for making the videos...this one IN particular. Lots of mumbo jumbo out there. You are one of the few guys that has the experience to tell it as it is. Thanks for answering my flat wire question....head marketing hype...good....mall ninja.....bad...you, real story.
Very cool stuff. I want to know more, but I am ignorant of all things 1911. I don’t even know what questions to ask. I just want more videos!
Great video, looking forward to the next ones. The Farm & Fleet reference was awesome too,if they sold beer I wouldn't shop anywhere else.
Great videos! I would enjoy a video explaining the various magazines, is one better for a ramped barrel etc! Of course, I am waiting for the rest of the disassembly and the assembly videos as well. Again great job! Your work is really appreciated
Thank you, Rob! Always, always appreciate your sarcastic words of wisdom!
Question. My 2017 Springfield Pro had a bushing that was finger tight. Why would they build it like that?
No idea. I have a Pro rail here getting a re-barrel that the bushing is super loose on. We remedied that with the super cool Bunker Arms Radial Bore bushing.
It has to feel awesome to build your own custom gun and know its just as good if not better than anything else he could go buy.
You still got star quality, Rob! A video every once in a while would be great, but not if they keep you away from bench time😂 you're the best!
Extractor tuning is a great topic. Also any recommended tools? I'm a bit skeptical of some. As a novice Bubba Smith, explaining it needs some tension or not is difficult to comprehend. Sorry i'm analytical....
Extractor tuning would be great. Could you also talk about fitting and how to properly file to get the claw from touching the case bevel like seen on most production 1911s.
Rob, could you do a video on how to evaluate a used 1911? Also, on how to properly safety check a 1911 after doing a trigger job….
Welcome back Rob, we’ve been waiting on more videos from you. Thanks, we really appreciate it 😊
I’d like to see a video discussing magazines. Magazine options seem almost endless, and the feeding behavior of the round stack among brands, feed lips, and capacities is an extremely interesting but somewhat inaccessible subject for laymen like me. It seems like there is a lot to consider. Thank you!
Thanks Rob. Extractor tuning for sure.....
Who's Rob?!? 🤓 Nice to see you again!
I want to see it all. Do every video you can imagine and I will be there for them all. Been a huge fan of yours since the original shop with you and Mr buhde. Jason
