This is my first work with film, and my first short documentary. It debuted at the Woods Hole Film Festival in 2010. "At the Heart Is The Guitar," explores the beautiful process of creating a hand made instrument. The film features the life and work of world renowned luthier and all around nice guy Steve Connor. Steve lives and works in Cape Cod, and builds classical guitars for clients such as...

This guy does nothing for me. Head of the Yale guitar dept. Saw him years ago. Nothing there
What is the musical piece at 4:26?
Super cool.
Хорошая музыка, душевная главно!
Дебильная какофония
$8,000 as a budget guitar for students? Did I hear correctly?
Rochberg?
The arms overhead on the pump is definitely a unique style. Dope video!
This is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!! 😎😎😎😎
A great amount of nice stuff
This guitar tour was like being with Andrew Sagovia in Madrid Spain with the Legendary Great est Luthier, Antonio Torres. The Sound and the Artistry captures the magnificent Golden era the Romantic Sound that only the great Luthiers can create when building the guitar. The Guitar is a universe on it's own Evolution, from the wood to the polish to the interior and exterior, to the Machine tuners, to the strings, and final construction the completion
Science and artistry become one. Oh love the t-shirt btw.
They should get paid the common gig price of a 4-man band instead of the price of a 2-man band, considering there was a singer, guitar player, alto sax player, and tenor sax player.
Sir, you can sense the passion when you speak. Very nice guitars. If it was within my price range I would definitely buy one.
"Hand crafted guitar" using a side bender...way to go.
WesFanMan Sure, betcha can chop down a tree with bare hands
3:24 Is that a jewish guitar?
LOL - looks like David's guitar.
Phenomenal
Dope edit, song ?
The book by Trevor Gore and Gerard Gilet are something you should not miss "The contemporary Acoustic Guitar". Trevor is a Mechanical Engineer and the books are far beyond a PhD in research and analysis
а для чего вы оставляете такие огромные потеки клея внутри гитары? Клеевые кляксы и капли делают лучше акустику гитары за счет отражений и интерференции звука?
Beautiful guitar im a irish classical guitarist i would to try one of your guitars some day
Still the best video of surfing at Ruggels! Was there this morning just fire 🔥 glassy waves
Steve Connor has created an artistic, creative, fun, rewarding and financially successful life. Kudos! I just finished my first complete guitar build and, though, it is lovely to look at and wonderful to play, it is not nearly in the same league as a Connor. I wonder how many guitars he has built since 2009? What a treat to see and hear his story.
Boy, does this make me want to try using a strap! The comfort level is obvious. I don't know how the older players did traditional posture for decades.
Awesome
Than you Steve for this video, I understand the urge of building beutiful instruments. Would like to meet with you and talk about guitar building, if you visit Europe let me know 😀. www.tguitars.com
It’s magical finding a playing guitar luthier
They may be ok for some people but I don't like them sorry
We applaud your experimentation! I don't think any of those bracing patterns fall out of fractal geometry. Perhaps you collected data on the performance of these bracing patterns, if not, all your work is lost, save for something you discovered by chance and remembered. It is likely you did not discover anything worthwhile, as the guitar building world is not recommending your methods.
After watching this video, I really want to burn my $20 guitar and stop to follow my dream as a guitar player.
Bitte, wenn Ihr doch Gitarre spielt, stimmt das Instrument korrekt!
As north americas finest poet /musician and painter said-- iF YOU THROW SAND at an oyster ..you get pearls ...BUT if you throw sand at a man you only get ULCERS.
👍👍👍 👏👏👏🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆 LIKE nº 1054 - Curitiba/PR/Brazil
Steve Connor's guitars are NOT worth anywhere near $8k. A real maker like Petros Guitars - I can totally understand them being at $8k or more due to their EXTREME attention to detail on all their models. Steve sounds like a trust fund baby in the way he talks about money which it seems he really doesnt know the value of a dollar.
What an awesome video. Thank you for sharing it. I saw this video a few years ago. I joined your channel. But I never received any more videos. Do you still post videos? Also. What kind of glue do you use? I hope you will post more videos.
William Laskin invented the sound port and arm bevel a true genius and great Canadian luthier!!!
How about showing us how he makes those rosettes? Oh yeah that's right....he doesn't....it's practically a glue on.
Oh my goodness, why so many haters on here? Yes the guy may be a bit different from other Luthiers, doesn't mean he can't go fishing, hang out with his "lovely wife" and charge 35K for his guitars - that's up to him and good on him. Certainly does not make him an "asshole"! Oh boy, there are some horrible people around!
song at 10:00?
Prelude No.3 by Villa-Lobos
Crazy. After about $1500 (~$750 cost) you are paying for art not sound.
ruclips.net/video/biWk-QLWY7U/видео.html
8k for a student????? are you kidding me, must be a rich student....
Nice to this work of art. Thanks
Lovely video! I'll get down Cape to visit one of these decades :-)
Your guitar doesn't look or sound any better than a $500 Yamaha, and nowhere near as good as a $2,000 Gibson... How are you able to sell for $8,000 to a student, who can own a better guitar for under $2,000? I think you are full of shit. I think you got some start up money from Dad and are living off it while indulging your ego. Geometric patterns in the bracing do not make better resonance. That was a failed experiment. Minimal bracing is the secret to the best sounding guitars.
The magnetic portal is a great idea.
I have an 8 dollar guitar ;)
Robert Johnson started out on three wires nailed to a shed wall ;)
Song at 9:54?
That's the Prelude from the Bach Cello Suite No.1
For Christ’s sake tune the bloody thing before you record and play the correct notes in the Villa Lobos. Pretentious rubbish.
Do you design each bracing to vibrate at a specific frequency?
He does nothing of the sort, and if he did, such frequency would changed in the completed instrument. He admitted he is guided more by intuition, than science, and the science he does mention are just fluff and puff buzz words, like fractals. Does he even know the fractal equation?
@@NeverTalkToCops1 The lattice bracing in the video is somewhat fractal, in fact there are some main struts that are bigger than the struts between them, and he could have made a third series of even smaller struts to put between the second ones. It's very easy to produce fractal structures, even if you don't know the equations. The point is whether using fractals gives good results in guitar making. Does a too dense lattice structure make a better sounding guitar? They say that it is better to put as little bracing as possible. The secret to make good guitars is to tap tune the top properly, whatever the bracing system, not to invent weird bracings because you can't make good guitars with the standard ones.
@@NeverTalkToCops1 I agree. I would rather have a guitar built by someone who believes in physics, than whatever just comes to mind. Kind of a rookie and lazy way to build.
Looks like a honeycomb copy of a Reynolds. Guitar is nice but has to be tuned and played by artist to compare
