A Sony Dream Machine Cassette Player?
Sims 1 will always be *the* best Sims game to me. I respect Sims 2 for sure, it's a good game. But the nostalgia factor is why Sims 1 wins for me. I've spent literally 500+ days on some of my Sims, juicing them up in every stat, mastering every career, becoming a superstar, the awesome fun quests to get all the magic spells, getting your pet to be well trained and win trophies. Going on dates, there was just SO MUCH to do. My favorite expansion is Makin' Magic due to the fun in getting all the spells. Superstar was cool but it was honestly a real pain. Once you became a Superstar, you had to show up every day, maintain all your friendships, etc. Those 5 stars do not last long. Oh, and don't even get me started with how insanely weird Sims 1 could glitch lol. I had Nancy the Papergirl delivering newspapers on every square of my lot out of nowhere once. Even after there was nothing but newspaper, she kept dropping more on top, and then I got a message "error: couldn't import family." Every time I'd be on the map screen, it would pop up, I'd click ok, it would pop up, I'd click it, so on, so forth. Same with making Sims. The actual in-game it wasn't appearing, so my brother and I were like whatever lol. We had multiple difficulties even getting the game to install because Celeron D was so bad.
I installed my complete collection a day after the legacy came out and decided to stick with that one. It has no issues as far as I can tell (I did the fanpatches) but that's all
That's great to hear that the original version works well for you!
It might be just as well. I watched LGR's review of legacy and it's also basically just patched (and still has issues with resolution/sizing and a lot of crashing).
I have my original iMac that I played this game on back in the day, I wish I had the original CDs as they're impossible to find now and really expensive to import on the few eBay listings that do exist.
Hopefully the Legacy edition comes to Macs soon!
I think it's considered abandonware now... not sure. I got it for free off some site. I have all the discs but my laptop doesn't have a disc drive.
@@Valientlink Yeh it's just it is impossible to find for the old mac before OSX now, even downloading.
It’s time to correct you like the nerd I am, the gameboy had the same size screen as the gameboy pocket, I know this because my dad had a gameboy when he was a kid.
You're likely right. It just looks bigger on the smaller device.
@ I agree
I love my portable DVD player
me too!! so handy wherever I go! No need for internet!
Hey, man. I have a question, which of the DS screens do you think is the best? I want to have a little game thingy wherever I go and I have a beat up DS Lite (broken hinges etc) which is perfect for the street, bright screen and all. I'm torn apart between buying a new shell for DS Lite and buying a whole DSi. Will the DSi screen be good enough for the street? Cause I also have a DSi XL and the screen on that is pretty dim in comparison with Lite, plus carrying that thing around isn't very practical you know.
So the DS Lite and the DSi XL both have their benefits but I agree sometimes the DSi XL isn't all that compact compared to the DS Lite if you just wanna through it in your pocket. I really like the DS Lite screen it does seem brighter outside. Just note if you have Physical DS games you want to play and don't want to Mod your system to play all DS games and such then stick with the DS Lite. If you want the option to MOD your DS to add more games to it then the DSi or XL version is great for that.
@@theretrouniverse Gotcha. But i wanna know what about regular DSi screen? Is it the same as DSi XL or something similar to DS Lite?
@@graveyardnum5984 it's about the same as the XL
@@theretrouniverse Oh ok, so I guess I'll just restore my Lite. Thanks a lot man.
@@graveyardnum5984 welcome!
I just got mine week ago and I loved it
The fact that sony did not even stick with one overpriced propriatary memory card was a major factor that made me not buy a psp go or a vita. I was unter 15 when it came out aka not allowed to work and $80 for a memory card, when the console is $200 was a big chunk of money for me back then. That and no new GTA game, made me stick to the PSP until i finished highschool. Had my buddy and we played gta vide city multiplayer during recess almost every day. Good times.
Yeah at least for the PSP the memory card really was only needed for save games so having a small 1GB card was almost enough, but with the Vita not having a memory card was rough as you wanted to download a bunch of games to it and such. They never really learned their lesson with any of their handhelds. A micro SD card in the GO and the Vita would have likely saved those handhelds. Also GTA Vice City Stories is great!
The psp go will always be my favorite. It was actually my first console, and i loved it. I was pretty young, so i dont have many memories with it, but i know i love that thing a lot. Sadly, someone stole it tho
I'm so sorry to hear that. You can still get one. They are great little handhelds with plenty of games and things to do on them.
Cant wait to fully stop touching grass forever
that's the plan!
Game gear is such a precious memory to me 😢 I had such a lovely childhood with amazing family. Anyone feel the same that had a game gear?
I wish I would have had one growing up. having that TV Tuner add on would have been incredible. I always was jealous when I would see people with their portable little tv's and wanted that too lol
@ yeah I only seen one person with the TV tune adapter, super cool, the thought of having a TV that’s portable as a kid, it’s daydream like. Am not sure how much your into old tech. But my list is a decent CRT TV (at best a Sony monitor) a mega drive, PS2, maybe an N64, defo a VCR. I want to watch some 90/ horror on a CRT TV off a VCR. Maybe once av done that the novelty might wear off I don’t know. I never had a mini disc so maybe one of those , imagine the interesting looks off youngsters as your changing disc on the train.. like what is that…lol.. I will sub you and check out the rest of your channel :)
@ thank you so much. Yeah I was at the doctors office the other day changing the cassettes on my cassette player in the lobby and someone was like is that a cassette???
@ I am all about retro and old tech so yes please check out my channel thank you so much!!
@ lol… that’s amazing. No problem:)
Good video
Thanks for watching!
I got my first "tranny radio" (Transistor radio) was when I was when I was 9 , 1972. I live in the UK. There was a miners strike and the whole country had random power cuts. It was a cheap plastic thing from Hong Kong. My one was green. My mother got all 3 of us boys different colours so we wouldn't argue over who's was who's. I listened to late night radio stations when the power was out. Radio London in those days. I kept it for years and later turned it into a fuzz box for my brothers punk band. Those things never used to wear out.
I recently repaired 4 of my 5 walkmans. 3 of them work pretty good, one sounds kinda weird
Yep had it Mortal Kombat
I’m going to try and get one
I really don't like the micro bulge the sd card adapter leaves. It kinda messes with my aluminum case as well.
I had to end up shaving off a small part off the back and honestly I can no longer notice the bulge, but yeah I get it
Is it region free?
I don't really have any pal dvd's or from another region to test sorry.
Your discord link is expired
Whoops sorry! I'll get that fixed right away

I always wanted a PSP Go , never got one . But I did finally pick up PS Vita few years back and loads of new game from game stores for $1 each . 👌👌👌👌
yeah PS Vita is great for sure. It's nice that you can play psp stuff on it but I do still like the PSP itself for it's own games
Umd movies were great for working away from home
oh yeah a nice compact way to watch movies for sure is awesome
can you tell if the headphone jack is stereo output?
just tested it and it sounds like stereo? I'll be honest I kept tuning stations to see if something came up and only one did sound like a few different instruments were only in the left or right channel
Wish I could give a concrete answer but so far the stations I pull up give me the impression it's mono. Spent a good 10 minutes trying different stations and songs.
How loud is this in terms of being able to hear the disc spinning?
It's not that bad actually. The loudest times you hear it are when you are first loading it up or hitting play, but once it's playing the movie or tv show it's quiet.
Will the home button work in game?
Yes. It works just like the PS3 Controller with all the same button features.
I've wanted a portable Blu-ray player for a while.
Portable bluray players are still very pricey. If you happen to have the copies of bluray movies with the dvd copy I would recommend that option since it's such a small enough screen to not notice the difference too much.
it sucks that the psp go cradle costs so much money because it looks really nice. I missed out on getting one years ago when the PSP go was on it's last leg
True! I guess we don't think accessories would be something that is rare or expensive but the PSP GO dock is for sure one of those items I wish I would have picked up!
Luckily all my copies are never fake, because I had them when they were new.
I tunes still works with iPods but when you plug in just wait till it comes up
yup. That's how it is for me. Not sure what process others are going through where it doesn't work for them. Aside from not formatting it before use
I recently been listening to my cassette player and my cassette tape I had a cassette player when I was a kid so cool that they are coming back I have gotten my cassette player at five below got it for 10 dollars really like getting cassette tapes to
I use beats earbuds
I've been trying to get this ipod I found to work. So far it does turn on and shows the apple logo on a dim screen and then shows the "connect to PC to restore" on a bright screen. It takes awhile to connect to my laptop and it is recognized but will not show up on itunes. I've deleted the driver, reinstalled itunes but it's not working. I'm not sure what to do. (Edit) i forgot to add but i replaced the screen, battery and got an iflash. Not sure if that infor is relevant.
It definitely could be I have not done the iflash stuff, but didn’t you have to install something onto it in order for the computer to recognize it? Or does it just recognize it like a hard drive?
@theretrouniverse it only recognizes it as a hard drive. I can see it in device manager but it doesn't show up in file navigation. I only installed itunes and the ipod support.
Plex.
yup!
Good find, if it works and you enjoy it it's a win either way.
You got that right!
Hey, fifteen bucks? You scored.
Thanks I agree! I do want to mention it being a cheap player though before the audiophiles come after me ha
Some years ago I got a used portable DVD player. The disc spinning motor was bad in it, so I used its AV input instead, then suddenly the LCD's ribbon cable got loose in the connector (only red colour remained) and when I wanted to put the cable back the connector snapped right off of the motherboard, killing the whole thing. Sadly I didn't had that portable DVD player for too long. 😕
Oh jeez that's a bummer I wonder what happened to it. What was it's brand?
@@theretrouniverse I don't remember its brand, it ended up as "for parts only". I took the LCD off from its backlight assembly, gave it a 12V fluorescent tube driver circuit and I made it into a "light-up picture frame".
i always thought the missed the Mark on Portable DVD Players nasically, They were TV's AND Portable Monitors thet DIDN't TV or Monitor (well, some did like yours kinda does but its just Basic ... no HD, and the DVD part is probaly ony 480-720P or something... they should have put a Tuner Chip in there and we'd still be using them
Digital TV tuner would have been nice for sure! Yeah no HD but honestly for a 7 or 9 inch screen watching something in 1080p or higher doesn't do much. Screen is too small for it to matter all that much.
I have a couple of these Laying around, the Batteries still work good too, Now it's got me thinkin "Hey, Maybe I could Pop a RasPi in here and be able to Play NES (lol, Nintendo Ya Mooks - stop Hunting your FanBase Lol) or SEGA!" We played Sega in a Van in the early-mid 90's on a Van Portable CRT TV and it was HUGE FUN, because it was one of those things that was Literally Impossible less than a month prior. - I really never thought to try it on a Modern P-DVD Player until now,...
@ oooo look forward to hearing about it!
This dude legit justified his use of DVDs while showing a Pokémon movie. Just saying.
Trying my hardest to see if this is a diss or a high five. My Radar can't tell :)
@ it’s a bit of both😉
@@Cybertruck_Trips I'll take it!
I still do it got a 2000 , 3000 and ps vita recently getting a psp go again it’s so cool what this portable machine can do 😊
It is so cool! The PSP is such a great piece of tech.
is this only compatible with pc? i don't have a pc but have a galaxy tablet can i just download the file and use it?
Unfortunately it only works on computers. Mac or PC and it does work on the Steam Deck as well.
I guess the upside is the battery lasts longer... but besides the news nothings good on the radio lol
I usually tune to classic stations only :) there is a good 80’s station that I listen to mostly
If you're a sports fan specially here in South America, a portable FM Radio like this can be a huge life saver, maybe your phone is dead so you can't keep up with the live score, maybe you're far from a TV and can't watch the broadcast. I've seen people on stadiums with these, watching the game and listening to the commentary on the radio, it's also better than using an internet dependent radio app on your phone because there's almost no delay.
@ that is a very great reason to get one!
I have a portable blu-ray player, it's built like a brick but it works like a charm, especially when the power goes out
Ooooo nice always wanted one
@@theretrouniverseI gave up on mine when it stopped turning on and got the bluray version which has hdmi
i just use my external LG blueray drive for my laptop
That works!
Also that PS3 slim there also does a great blessing at playing DVDs
Good eye! Yes it does :)
To me I rip my DVDs and then use my gaming PC to fam remaster the rips
The Sony Psyc MiniDisc player and recorder still is my preferred mp3 player which i have been using for the last 22 years to this day. Still works, I get to choose what music I want to hear, no ads no internet, no menus, just my own bespoke mix. Has stellar battery life, I love the magneto-optical disc technology, the buffer technology which saves on battery life, and yes... amazing battery life!! ...has great sound and all this is powered by a single AA battery! Sony ended MiniDisc production yesterday...February 1st 2025, ending a 32 year legacy of the MiniDisc. Sony first introduced the MiniDisc in 1992. MiniDisc lives on!!
It is sad to see the MiniDisc go but it has certainly had a good run!
You got some nice music taste dawg !!
While I get the charm of those players. I use to rip DVDs and put the show/movie on my PSP digitally. This way I had no extra weight of the DVDs itself. Not that a binder easily could fix this.
As long as they work, I have both intentionally and unintentionally gotten romhack carts, I can trade between all mine and the only time I've lost a save file, I had the battery replaced and am 100+ hours in again
Mod the Dsi XL. Then you can play like any game
very true!
can i do this with songs i got from bandcamp?
You sure can!
