is everything original from the m44 engine except your piston?
Thanks for watching. The head is an M42 head. Original cams just reground. ARP conrod bolts Toyota ITB’s . The only problem is the valve springs. They are limited to 6800 rpm. So if I keep pushing them to 7200 then they will fail and boom. So I will have to upgrade them.
Where is the best place to mount a fuel cell in a FWD car? Should I mount the battery, fire bottle, and powersteering pump as far back as possible ?
This is a good question, thanks for asking. Fuel cell I was say yes, but if possible, in line with the race axle or rear wheels. Also as low does as safely possible. For the rest, you would need to see what the corner weights say. But yes, most likely in the rear.
You are a legend. More videos on FWD please!
Thank you so much , appreciate it 💪🏻
Thank you so much man. I've experienced ALL of this in many different situations, but you connected ALL the dots. Awesome video
Thank you so much for watching 💪🏻
that work good without MAF? what did you do to delete it?
Thanks for watching. I am running an ECU masters ECU & rewired the whole car. So not using a MAF sesnro
I dont ever want to do this calculation! Unreal how quick it all adds up.
For sure bud, it’s unbelievable what it all costs. Luckily a lot of it was sponsored. There are cheaper ways to do it but I had a certain standard I wanted to achieve. Thanks for watching
Really cool video and channel, can't beleive I've only come across it now, probably seen your car 100 times at CO . Love your content, I had a PS loss at Kyalami with my Polo, so understand your pain! Really hard luck with the accelerator cable, those quick fixes often come back to bite. I'm involved with 111's, will come say hi at the next event. Wishing you smooth sailing with the move and upcoming prep.
Thank you for the support, it's awesome to get feedback on the channel. Looking forward to catching up!
Also... do you have access to LED high bay lights over there? They work great and don't leave shadows, around 200watts each .in Australia they're about $150each
Thanks for the feedback, I will have a look around. There are all sorts of solutions, just need to make sure I get the correct one. Thanks for the support as always🙌🏻
Mega proud of you mate. Well done. It's great to have your own race HQ
Thank you so much, means a lot!
Hi, great channel. I did almost exactly the same table as you did. I even bought the same rims as you did for the e36. I ended up buying an e90 323 manual as a street car. Very capable chassis, weight is quite low for its size, and probably has weight savings over previous BMW’s due to plastic parts for example. My main gripes for the e90 are all the electronic systems that are old and fail. Also, while the e90 size gives it advantages for grip on track, to drive, the body feels a bit too big and cumbersome. When I go back to my e87, it makes my 1 series feel like a sports car. Having said that, the e87 car I think is very under appreciated. Same engines as the e90, but much lighter, and the 4 cylinder cars are basically front-mid engined. Anyhow, cheers from Australia.
That’s awesome bro, thanks for the feedback 🙌🏻 Another issue with the e90 is the rubber finish peeling off of the dirt handles and plastics in the interior. Grates my cheese 😂😂😂 There is a guy who a 130 in our series here, very capable car it seems Thanks for the support.
Well done 🥳
Thank you
Congratulations brother, looking forward to more content in the new space 🥳🥳
Thank you, it's been a long time coming. More content coming soon 💪🏻
Well done man! Awesome move and exciting times ahead 😎
Thank you, it's exciting times for sure!
I just watched your Clio build video and it's awesome..how long did the project take and could you tell us about the costs of the various mods and upgrades? Also, how much do you expect.to spend on.the Fiesta budget build?
Thanks for watching bud. Good idea, I will put this together, just need to gather the information. 👍🏻
Awesome 🎉
Thanks 🤗
Fantastic! Congrats dude!🎉 Ya, get quality lighting! Your eyes will thank you!😊
Thanks, yeah the lighting is already on the to-do list!
What a beautiful E36, healthy sounding engine as well, great build man! Thnx for the ride!
Thank you so much 🙌🏻
Do you use ppf on any of the race cars ?
No, but others do. It does help
Great content! Thank you!!
Glad you liked it!
Do you know how much power it makes planning on giving my m42 an itb and a cam as well
Thanks for watching, it made 210hp. But that is heavily modified….
Pretty solid time for a 300hp car. I was amazed to learn the FK8 time beat the F87 M2CS time by a good bit .. fun idea would be to review the fastest Ring times 400hp and under !
Thanks for watching, I will check out those times!
Nice work, how much hp do you want?
250 would be great but I would need to import cams for it to get there. 230Hp would be great for now
Wow its a race car, my m42 build only got 160 hp only cams, itbs, high comp piston and crank😥
I think you should make it longer and less wide
Thanks for watching
Merry Christmas buddy
Thanks bud Merry Christmas to you too 🙌🏻
Congrats! MERRY CHRISTMAS Jacques!!🎉🎉🎉
Thank you so much My Christmas your side too
Merry Christmas Jacques!
Thank you, Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Thank you, Merry Christmas to you too bud
Looking forward to seeing what you get up to in the new space. Have a fantastic Christmas mate 🎄
Same to you!
Hey there, I was looking at your datalog of oil pressure, u are making 4 bar or 50 psi of oil pressure at max rpm. I think the bearing clearance is big for high rpm usage, have u tried thicker weight oil such as 10w50/60? And the max oil pressure ur getting of only 4 bar is due to the oil pressure relief valve on the timing cover housing, have u tried shimming the spring 2mm? So u have higher oil pressure at peak rpm? If im not mistaken from factory the m42 m44 platform spring relief valve is maxed at 56 psi only, meant for the engine to rev to 7000 rpm max.. Because if it is really cavitation the engine would experience 0 psi oil pressure, from what I see from your datalog, its only reducing to 10-15 psi at 3500 rpm on braking.. the oil pump gear is located at the crank snout, so it will of course reduce as the rpm is also reduced from braking on corner entry. My guess is u have less oil pressure on the top as well as the oil is thinning on high heat as well as the bearing clearance is to high for the weight of oil u are using. Can you try this and check the datalog again after these mods? Hope this helps..
Thank you so much for the feedback, this is great advice 🙌🏻 I am using Ravenol Race 10W60. I will try shimming the oil pressure spring, that’s a great idea. The oil pressure issue is probably all of the above as you mentioned but with the sump upgrades and shimming the relief valve, we should be sorted. Will keep you posted! Thanks for watching
@ yes, the general rule of thumb if im not mistaken is 10 psi increase per 1mm-1.5mm shim, and you can shim as much as you need your oil pressure to be.. in my opinion it will solve your low oil pressure under braking, but on long sweeping corners, you will need an enlarged oil pan to take in more oil. But for small abrupt corners and sudden change of directions ( small S corners ) you will need baffles to keep the oil from sloshing. A good platform for this will be the 2 piece oil pan design for the m44 platform, so the sump can be modified, baffled ,and enlarged to suit your needs. Due to the low position of the 2 sump design, if you enlarged it, and baffle it near the oil pickup area, you will keep a lot of oil away from the crank at high rpm, and hopefully reduce the aeration of the oil thus also preventing sudden pressure drop. Goodluck!
I'm a BMW Tech in Germany, we have significantly colder climate here and the chain guides and all the seals fail anyways. Snapped chains are also quite frequent. Check engine light comes on all the time on these, too. The vanos solenoids get gunked up, the valvetronic motor gets stuck and coils fail a lot. Another thing that I see regularly on these engines are spun rod bearings. Most of the cars with blown engines don't get repaired but are exported to Romania or Poland, because a new engine is too expensive and used ones all have the same issues.
@@oOTevtronOo there are companies renting e90 for nurburgring, eg ringfreaks, so I guess they can't be that bad once you sort them out. Otherwise they would never make money
Yup, just crazy to think. Not BMW’s finest hour 😂😂😂
For sure Thanks for watching
@@davidzebar6876 chain + guides and rod bearings are cheap parts to replace if you DIY and don't pay for labour or do it in house. I guess the ring freaks can tell a rod knock or chain rattle before the engine is ruined which the average e90 320i driver can't.
What about 325/328/330? Why not just go for one of those instead of 320 and needing an engine swap right away?
Good point, I should have spoken about the n52:54 cyl engines. Thanks for 👀
I personally love the E90's chassis, handling, brakes and just the overall setup, however the car you buying for R30k will be a wreck, bad maintained. You will need to rebuild the complete suspension, control arms, steering rack, wheel bearings. As well as the old E90 parts are cheap and everywhere available, thus dont rely on selling the old stuff, E90's main concern is the weight, with a low power car, 320, 323, 325 it will not be competitive, unless you throw lots of money in it Rather go for a good 330i, Will build a faster and cheaper overall racecar
No leaking oil on a BMW?!?! 😱😱 Jk, nice build!!
Thanks for watching 🙌🏻
Your car was 286 HP at 7k rmp to 1995, to 1998 it grew to 321 HP at 7,400 rmp. If you are only getting 200HP after all the work you did, there is something wrong. Also, once you got it back from the head being reworked (did the same place correct its own mistake free of charge? or did you take it somewhere else and pay again?) why would you take it to the DINO testing without first checking for shimmering metal flakes again? you just assumed they did it right the second time around? thank you.
Thanks for watching
Better stick to what you know is my motto. Just saying.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Thanks for watching!
Ask Ad Verkuijlen from The Netherlands, he combined two S50B32 oil pans
That’s a great idea, will consider that 💪🏻
Great movie! I watched with pleasure. I built a similar M44/M42 engine with ITB. I was mindful of the problem that can occur with oil pressure. I used assembly grease, maybe that would allow you to avoid the problem? ruclips.net/video/NN0GKcooors/видео.htmlsi=JRskG_2dgSMqNSBG&t=196
nice insights, ever had a look at accusump (it is an addition to wetsump), not as expensive as dry sump, but will save your engine from oil starvation
Thanks for watching. I have looked at it thanks. Let’s see how we get on with the upgrade
I think a dry sump kit with reservoir might be your answer from all the challenges you have.
I mean, dry sump is the solution to every car. It's very expensive and maybe his class doesn't allow it.
Yes a dry sump is the ultimate solution but yes, super expensive and complex. This option should work, I will monitor it closely, thanks for watching 🙌🏻
I've got the Raceline Duratec three compartment sump which you showed. Work of art and I get no oil pressure issues at all. They really know their stuff. No wonder you're having issues with the original sump. Very weird design.
Yes sir, great sump Thanks for watching🙌🏻
Jeez so much insight in this video. Learned A LOT!👍
Glad it helped, thanks for watching!
whats the context of orie ntal tunes at the back ?💃
my bro trying to wake up the snake in the block
Thanks for watching!
I endurance race M42. I have made a custom baffle in the stock oil pan with two 1 way door. I see the same oil pressure drop under hard braking. I will check to see if you have pictures of my baffle and trap doors. I did the same thing... filled the sump to see how much volume is contained. If I find the picture, I will send you a picture.
Thanks for watching. yes it will be interesting to see.
What is your insta page?
Canadian here, 1998 318Ti. Enjoying your posting. Unfortunately, I replaced my antifreeze, bled system wrong. Heated up engine. Think I've now blown the headgasket. Top up antifreeze every couple hours of driving. So putting car up for sale. Mint condition, but haven't the talent to replace gasket. Will miss it, very few Ti around. Unfortunately it is auto transmission. Anyway, Cheers from Canada.
Thanks for watching. Sorry about the head gasket man, that’s unfortunate. Good luck with the sale and thank you for the support 🙌🏻
Amazing! A little birdie told me there was a m44/42 frankenstein in cape town recently and a video of it screaming down killarney...been on the hunt ever since. Great build and great insight for the m44/42 community👍
Awesome bro! Well there are some epic upgrades coming to improve the reliability as I prep for next season. Hopefully I will be able to make a trip down to CPT next year again. Keep an eye on the channel for the M42/M44 Frankenstein V2.0 build... Thanks for your support!
SO excellent to find someone local to be doing this. Was at that race day and your car sounded amazing on the tygerberg straight. My next project is an M44 E36, so your information is invaluable.
Thank you so much man 🙌🏻 Really appreciate it 💪🏻
I by m42,this is one the top enjine on car rip car dtm 90 style
Nice 👌🏻
I'd say rebuild the engine for racing maybe bigger pistons perhaps a stroker build
Well it’s interesting you say that 😂😂🫣 Stay tuned 💪🏻
Ah man but time for something better where did you get those throttles from or which engine are they from
The throttles are from a 1600 4AGE 20Valve.
What management are you running?
I’m running an ECU master black. Great ECU
Which track is this?
Kayalami
Correct, Kyalami South Africa. Thanks for watching!
