Seriously, thank you so much for the spreadsheet. I've started modifying it for my use by adding a "Material Database" setup sheet where I can do a lookup for the filament prices based on selecting Material Type and Brand on the main input sheet. I've had to adjust the sheet to my local currencies etc, but overall, extremely happy with it. Thanks.

I caught an error/bug in the spreadsheet. The total lande dcost currently is the total without considering the Material Efficiency Factor. Currently its adding the default (non multiplied) value for the total cost of filament into the landed price. For instance, my Cost for a filament job is $1.73, $0.67 labor cost, $1.00 packaging cost, and $0.52 added machine cost for a total of $3.92 However, my MEF for filament would be $2 total, instead of the $1.73 - So My landed cost should actually be $4.19 and not $3.92 Am I missing something?

Good to see someone making actual products. I've been interested in 3D printing for quite awhile but it's always seemed like a large universe of toys (meaning the products made, not the machines themselves). Nothing wrong with that. Just not for me. I'm also not going to start a print farm as I'm too old and too lazy for that. Oddly, just seeing someone make a functional tool makes me want a printer again. I think I'm going to get a P1S and give it a whirl.

  • @michaelbuckers

The correct answer is "because most people value it at least this much". Everything else is completely irrelevant. Particularly, spending a lot of time on something doesn't makes it valuable. And neither does expending physical resources on making it.

The market sets the price, and there are only two components: supply and demand. All this guideline is a method to discover your costs which obviously must be lower than the price the market is willing to pay to make the product viable. BUT the price you charge is not based on that cost, only IF you bother making the product in the first place.

I recently found some people on Etsy selling my designs on their Etsy page without my permission, I put my designs up on Thangs, Printables, etc. for free and under a non-commercial license because that's what I love about the 3D printing community (people sharing their creativity with each other for personal use not personal profit) but now after seeing people selling my intellectual property online without my permission it has completely and unfortunately changed the way I look at uploading my designs to the 3D printing community.... Its sad how a couple of bad eggs can ruin it for everyone else. Has anyone else in this comment section had the same thing happen to their designs?

But would you still recommend the P1P with AMS over the prusa xl? for multi color prints it seams the xl would prevent lots of wasted material and/or having to glue or screw parts with different colors together, so saving on labor? seams in those cases the XL is the preferred option?

Machine costs are your fixed charges as you figure your depreciation cost and overhead like building costs electric power and other operations costs that are fixed from day 1. Depreciation will fall off but repair costs and replacement costs because you will need the money to expand or replace so those costs usually never go away. Also in labor don’t forget payroll taxes and benefits

One thought I had on the A1 as a farm machine.......the quick swap hot end. Since 90% of issues seem to be hot end related, that seems like it would be a maintenance game changer.

"Max acceleration is hardly ever reached, except for big prints". I think you're deeply confusing acceleration and max speed. If you tell me that the advertised max speed is hardly ever reached, except in big prints. I accept. Max acceleration is the rate of speed increase that it'll accelerate the tool head from the moment it starts to move. So the acceleration you set, is the acceleration you get. The speed you set, will not always (or in some cases never) be achieved. But acceleration will.

    • @PrintFarmAcademy
      @PrintFarmAcademy 4 дня назад

I’m an engineer, I’m well aware of what acceleration is. However if the head is just traveling a short distance, the head cannot ramp up to speed quickly enough. That’s the only point I was making

Got any video of that rack with all the printers going? Just bought the same rack and I wanted to see what the shake was like. My main concern is I want to put a Resin printer on the bottom shelf, and a 2 Bambu X1C on the mid shelf. Curious if the Vibration from the X1Cs would cause any issue to the Resin Vat

A minor adjustment, I know, but perhaps make the support bracket for the filament redirection roller a bit deeper, just to be sure that the filament doesn't escape; probably not entirely necessary, but if it was me I would feel a bit more comfortable with that little bit of added redundancy. Good tips nonetheless

This is super cool and would be something I'd love to do... I just ordered my 3rd printer but trying to find something that people would actually WANT to buy is tricky. Is your company actually profitable? How do you figure out something that people want? I really want to get out of the rat race. I'm tired of working for the man and making other people wealthier while I'm struggling to get by.

If you put an extra wooden slab above the wheels of your mobile workbench then you increased your storage for more saws. The weight will increase of each workbench but most wheels will maneuver better with more weight on them.

Really interesting insight! On a previous life, before burning out of a mental engineering working student schedule, I worked at a steel mill. When I got there the cost was calculated by an excel sheet not updated in 14 years. I remade the whole thing and had a lot of fun and even pride when it was done... and then I quite because my boss was a cocaine snorting lunatic and I had to do my job of managing stock and ordering alloys by the dozen of ton, designing parts, setting up production with the production manager, scheduling maintenance and sourcing parts, dealing with the commercial side of things and then receive angry calls from our best clients because my boss had just called them high as a kite and spewing out nonsense. I had enough but anyway... sorry for the tangent, it was really interesting seeing your thought process throughout the video on how you arrived at the final price for the client. I'm currently disabled but I'll check out your academy course and see if I can afford it. Looks like it's worth it if your this insightful on 3D printing at a larger scale!I currently own a Kingroon KLP1 230 CoreXY 3D printer but plan to buy a Prusa Mk4 soon, which has slightly larger dimensions that my present printer and opens me up to the wonderful world of Prusa (big fan of printables) and once I've fully recovered from my health issues... I might expand further... so this course sounds like a good idea!

The P1P is a niche machine, only recommended for people who know exactly why they are buying it. The P1S is a far better value and a much more complete package. Both A1 printers are phenomenal values. The P1 printers are more pro level, but the A1 printers are still very capable and, with the easy swap nozzles, do offer a bit more flexibility.

We are using 12 of P1S with AMS for almost a year now and each of them working around 20h a day, we have very low failure rate even on parts with fine details. To this point we have done 0 maintenance other than basic cleaning and all machines are still in a very good shape. Totally agree with your recommendation and personally very happy on spending extra on picking those printers for a farm. Worth to mention that AMS saves a lot of time on swapping the filament + gives extra abilities so I recommend getting at least few of the AMS units for the farm. When we started to operate the farm it became very clear that main cost actually aren't the printers, it's filament and wasting time with low quality machines doesn't make any financial sense especially when your farm is very loaded, each minute wasted on fighting bad quality filament or machine cost triple.
