Morrisania & Harlem River Railroad
США
Добавлен 31 дек 2021
I chose this name for my RUclips channel because I grew up during the 1960s in the Morrisania (South) section of the Bronx in New York City. I wanted to honor both where I came and a nearby railroad in naming my RUclips channel.
The Morrisania Branch of the Harlem River Railroad, crossed the Harlem River and entered the village of Melrose in Southern Westchester (today the South Bronx borough of NYC since 1874 when it was annexed). This early railroad was chartered in 1842.
I have leaned so much from my new friends Dave G and Nick R who have fantastic channels here and they have inspired me to create my own channel and share my knowledge and experience here with you.
My personal areas of expertise cover both O gauge and HO and both traditional power pack DC and AC transformer with conventional control as well as DC, DCC, DCS and Lionel Lionchief.
I will share videos of all of them from time to time.
Please enjoy, like, comment and subscribe !

The Marx 333 & K-Line 3002 Pacific Steam Locomotives: A 40 year design re-born.
As a collector & operator of both Lionel (post war, MPC, LTC and Lionchief) as well as Marx (post war to 1970), I have always admired the classic Marx 333 (die cast) and 1829 (plastic) 6 driver wheel locomotives. Since I recently acquired a 333 and have partially restored it, I thought it would be nice to compare it to its K-Line relative 3002 (same mold die cast shell but a DC Can motor, electronic reverse unit, AC-DC rectifier for that DC motor and an seuthe smoke unit. While doing so, I also thought it appropriate to show some of my plastic & tin Mark cars including a rare twin searchlight car and a Mark crane car. If you listen carefully towards the end of this weeks videos you might ...

MTH N&W J Locomotive Rescue

So my recently acquired (from the Allentown First Frost) MTH Railking Norfolk & Western J (Bantam) 4-6-4 locomotive developed a nasty whining sound when the units smoke fan was running. I tried (following several RUclips videos) to correct by lubricating the shaft of the smoke motor, which was a challenge to get to but I managed it and got it all back together. When I tested it back on the trac...

Todays video was inspired by my grandson Julian's experience watching the NJ Transit Princeton Junction Dinky shuttle train to Princeton station. They remind me of both the NYC subway cars and the NJ transit and Long Island railroad...

Marx to Lionel Coupler Adapter UPDATE!
I’ve just got this for my young daughter on EBay , it’s almost brand new , and I got a 726 locomotive on the way for me .
@@EivinSukoi Nice! The 726 is a classic! Enjoy your 8516 as well! It’s a very useful engine!
@ thank you sir 👍👍
Fantastic haul! Nice looking #611! 👍
Bruce I have that engine and many other MPC 2-4-2 steam engines as well and I love them all!!! On these MPC engines and the MPC 4-4-2 steam engines, if you look at the bottom of the smoke unit you will find a hex screw that screw is the adjustment screw for the sound of steam circuit board in the tender. You need a .050 allen wrench to turn that screw so that the contacts on the smoke unit will close and the S.O.S. board in the tender will work properly. It may take a few adjusments to get it to work but is better than having to replace the whole board. I hope that this helps you and Thank You very much for sharing this video I liked it a lot!!!
@@MatthewJoseph-td5qc Thanks Matt! I will certainly give that a try! This is what I really love about this hobby! Making friends like you! 😉
You are very welcome Bruce!! Keep the videos coming!!
Awesome 😊
Fantastic haul. Really like the passenger cars.
Yes, now of course I'm looking for the matching dining car. 😉
Just a few tips, they’re called Baby Madison cars, with diaphragms in between not gaskets, and that’s a vista dome car, the last one is the observation car. Hope this helps. Good video!
@@richardsobieck9660 Thanks, corrections appreciated! 😉
@@MHRRR54 Thanks for taking it constructively
I just heard you are from Delaware. I'm located in Milford. I have a O gauge layout 17 by 11 L shaped. Enjoyed you sharing your trains.
@@rolandmetzner8177 Thanks!
i have mpc era lionel version of this car.
The aquarium cars are very innovative for a train set! Fantastic!
@@annettekay3307 Glad you enjoyed them! The effect is remarkable! Thanks
Congratulations on the Puffing Smoking Caboose, I recently bought a new smoke unit for mine which had failed. The smoke unit spare cost $30. So you did just great. Glad you had fun. Stuart in the United Kingdom
Thanks Stuart! Yes it was very lucky finding it in working condition for that price. Cheers mate!
Had one of these years ago but it was constantly reversing itself and since I didn't want to invest any time into I gave it to a friend who soon had the problem repaired.
Yes the e (reversing) units on these tend to stick with carbon deposits. Usually a shot of contact cleaner gets them working again! Thanks for watching my channel 😉🚂
I've got one of those 2026 Lionel Adriatic engines. I thought they were from 1951. I had one as a 3 year old but it got left in the attic when we moved. I was fortunate to get my cousin's identical train but the engine needs a new E-unit as the lever came off the shaft and cannot be repaired. I've tried everything from super glue to epoxy to no avail. Mine has the whistling tender as well. Cheers from eastern TN
👍👍
Nice review. I am restoring one right now. Rebuilding the e unit, etc.
That’s a great postwar looking engine! 👍
Could you share a link for the full bridge rectifier. Also, would you do a video showing how to connect the rectifier?
I have that same box car. It’s old I don’t use the brake man
Very nice, your truck car doesn’t have the original truck load. That one came with three metal bar end trucks which did not have the spring clip mounting pins. I bought a dockside a few years back, can’t remember the number. The book said it had a DC motor but it actually had an AC motor. I had to replace The rear coupler mounting as the original is fragile and broke. Be careful.
Thank you for the history lesson. One of my grandfathers was a brakeman for the B&O railroad, but I was not told that until after he died so I never had the chance to talk to him about that part of his life.
Good information. Thank you.
I liked the video !!
Nice! Cool history
Crappy plastic encased motors that are very difficult to repair I buy these on the cheap at train shows just to get the wheels, front and rear trucks.I use the motors armature's commutator to repair other postwar armartures that I have that need a good working commutator. I also prefer MPC motors for my my small MPC steam engines over these. MPC motors are better made than these.
Yes I agree these motors are difficult to service but they were made to reach a lower price point market. The fact that some are still functioning is amazing and I’m enjoying it while it lasts.
Great video and channel. And I love the railroad name as a fellow, re-located, NYer (South Bronx and Harlem)
The 242 is considered one if the most common locos of that type. Those are very likely made from the same mold. Lionel reconfigured some if the metal molds for use with plastics. But plastic molds could not be converted to mold metal. Yours runs well, I try to shy away from plastic motored locos as they are notorious for poor operation and difficult to repair.
Great switcher there
The 1st rail car behind the engine looks rather big like a G scale compared to everything else.😊 nice engine coverage. A lot of sounds in Menards while the other’s are nice and quiet.
The Marx also appears to have three axle trucks.
I love the Santa Fes! The Lionel 2333 was produced in 1948 and 1949. The 2343 was made from 1950-1952. The 2353 from 1953-55, and the 2383 from 1958-66. I do not have the 2383, but I have the others. Menard's also put out a Bluebonnet version last year.
Neat thanks for sharing , i like the elephant ears ! Nice for mpc era .
I have the Wabash steam engine and tender and I love it!! I love ❤ the MPC era!!! Many great trains were produced then. Thank You very much for sharing!!
The electronic whistle, I believe they were going for a replacement of the Lionel air whistle. So if you listen to the air whistle tender and this one you will hear that they sound very similar. Doing this with oscillators electronics was pretty good for the times. In the tender, if you have not already replace the foam under the electronic circuit board. Often that foam rots away and then the board will touch the metal bass of the tender, and short out. While in there take a picture first and then you can vary the sound by moving the two variable resistors. TAKE PICTURE first for the controls so you know who to get them back like they were. I played around with one as a teen and found that the best sound was with the original sound. Now mine back then was a earlier version of the electronic whistle, so I assume the one in your tender is similar.
Super cool video!
Santa Fe F 3 and both the F 7 and FP 7 are the most iconic locomotives ever, recognized around the world. 🚂
Lionel F7 = 1946 EMD F7 + 1949 hmmm
Nice Marx, Lionel and Menards comparison. The Marx 1095 is an E7 diesel. Thanks!
@@johnknippenberg-LandmarkYards Thanks! The Marx 21 has really nice lithography but seems somewhat underpowered compared to the plastic molded Marx 1095 which seems to pull much better and can handle longer heavier consists. Aside from the somewhat inaccurate paint details the Menards entries perform and pull up to 12 (most I can fit on my 4x8 ovals) cars in a realistic prototypical way. I’m very pleased with them at that price point and am considering another, possibly the recent Pennsylvania. I’d really like to see some more East Coast road names and perhaps some other diesels as well. Thanks! 🚂😉
My favorite locomotive! Pop-pop would take me to watch the trains in Long Island City and sometimes we would see one at Penn Station!
@@jaminova_1969 Beautiful memory ! Unfortunately never had a chance to see one operating but I have seen one on display at the Pennsylvania State Railroad Museum in Strasburg Pa. Thanks 🚂😉
@@MHRRR54 My father took us to Strasburg when I was little!
Lionel F-3 = 1947 technology, Marx = stamped tin, Menards = 21st century technology. Gee, lets compare apples, kumquats, and ugli fruit. The man has no ide what he's talking about!
32 Seconds in and already he doesn't know what he's talking about. It is an F-3, not an F-7!
Thanks for your correction. Indeed the Lionel was a representation of the F3 not the F7. My apologies for the confusion. Regardless they are all beautiful reproductions of these classic diesel locomotives.
The Lionel is an F-3, the Menard is an FP-7, and the Marx is a curious mixture. The side grills say FT, but the roof vents and trucks say something else.
Most of these companies are very good a depicting the early E and F diesels
I love these Super Chief Santa Fe. F-7s!

Good spotting! Yes indeed this American 4-4-0 Union Pacific is the same wheel configuration as Edward from Thomas and Friends. Thanks to your reference I read up on Edward’s history as the original engine in the Thomas series. It’s a lovely story about an older steam engine that still wants to be useful like Thomas Thanks 🚂😉

I used to have the K-line version and you’re right, it was a fantastic puller! It would out pull all of my locomotives at the time. The plastic gear failed and I did replace that gear and then I gave it away. Great comparison video. New subscriber!👍
Thanks for you comment and for subscribing! Yes it’s one of my favorites. I only have that one but I’m always looking for a later addition that had the New York Central road name. Some later versions were provided with Railsounds.
When I purchased my set new it was called The Pennsylvania something? The set came with 6 cars for $99.
