The whole package is advertised as weighing 8.6 pounds but mine was nearly...

Enjoyed watching your video. I too dislike the roar of my pressurized gas and canister stoves. The last decade or so I have come to really appreciate the quiet of alcohol and wood Twig stoves. I personally am seldom in a hurry when in the woods and these quiet slower methods of cooking and preparing foods and drinks are fine with me.

Nice work. Now, if I had the tool those cartridges are for, or knew someone who did, it would be far more practical than destroying a brand new unit for the experiment. For 10 pounds of wax, I can cast 90 candles to fit the lantern, so, thanks, but I'm sticking with candles.

Have one, works amazing. Tried to buy a second one and had 7 units fail in a row. First 4 failed the integrity check right out of the box. My question is; how many people might not perform the integrity check and get giardia? Super scary. The last 3 failed because they didn't let ANY water through. Maybe 2mL per minute, not the claimed 3L. No exaggeration. I love my working QuickDraw, I just wish I could find a working second one.

Hello Signal Outdoors. I have a question to you about the Platypus Quickdraw. I'm interessted in buying one of these for the first time to mod it. Is it possible to remove the fibers in it (easly)? I never had one in my hand before. I wanna fill it with natural cotton and active coal (from a aquarium shop) by myself insead of the fibers which come with it. The natural cotton and active coal are 100% compostable and so I could change the filling in the outdoors without harming nature. Also i'm saving waste because I think that way I could use on Platypus for many years. And because I have a fresh filling before every trip I don't have to bother for a moldy filter. What do you think of my idea? Do you think it's possible you remove the fibers, or are those glued in? And if so, are those removeable anyways? Thanks for your video, thumb up. And I hope for a response to my question. Best regards from Germany, River Bank Viking

This shows how all those shed tests don't address the real problems of using an alcohol stove in the winter. Well done. I don't think you've quite cracked all the problems, but you have at least addressed them. One tip I picked up for guaranteed ignition is to twist up a short length of tissue and use it as a wick sticking up just above the top of the stove. It seems to work every time.

My thoughts are to use your stack as a cooking area. Elevate your cooking surface to allow air flow. This will be like a rocket stove. It'll work believe me. Also the longer your stack the hotter it will be.

U knooowwww....they sell small kerosene lanterns that also burn diesel which is a lOt cheaper...and...if U want a bigger flame...(more heat) just add some charcoal starter (~ 10 %ish...) in with the diesel/Kerosene and it will burn much cleaner, hotter, brighter...For ur version U cud just use a smaller 1/8th inch wick for better flame control...that's cool but much too fastidious for my taste...

Also, get some stove cement to seal the lid on the can, and think about getting some fireproof rope that is used on woodstove doors. I would use the rope around the inside of the door.

  • @beamerman1000

Friend, if you’re gonna want to look at the flames like that, all the time, you really need to consider putting in a mica window, That will keep you from introducing a whole new draft from the side, which seems to be the thing that’s causing the smoke to come up through your hopper. It might not be a terrible idea to put a little bit of that rope insulation stuff around the door, so that you can seal it. That might make a huge difference to the efficiency of your unit.

I use my Lixada alcohol siphon stove inside the Goshawk Outdoors titanium multi-fuel wood gasifier stove Eddy-200 Pioneer, it helps elevate the alcohol stove from the cold ground & shelter it from the wind. But I also love using hard wood pellets in the Goshawk stove & a squirt of alcohol to get 'er started. One cup of pellets burns for 90 mins, 35 mins of active flame 🔥 and 55 mins of useable heat with nothing left but some ash. RUclipsr Mark Young modded a simmer ring and snuff cap from tuna cans for the Lixada siphon. Works great, and u can easily snuff & recover unused fuel, as needed, instead of just letting it burn off.

Great little stove as someone who's worked with metal for over 20 years I just wanted to share Metal fumes when inhaled can cause dizziness and nausea. If you are exposed to them over a long time, even in small quantities, they can cause lung damage, and cancers of the lungs, larynx, and urinary tract. They also cause metal fume fever, stomach ulcers, kidney damage, and damage to the central nervous system. For example, Manganese fumes may cause symptoms similar to Parkinson’s disease. If you are burning metal that is plated, galvanised, or painted, you could generate Lead, Zinc, or Cadmium fumes, all of which are dangerous. Extremely toxic and over time can be leathal just be Shure to cook it off in a well vented atmosphere before using it just get it red hot and let the metal gas off before using it in a tent or camper and you'll be just fine .. great job it's a good looking little stove 👍
