Such an iconic car. Nice video Jason, well made and thank you for posting. 🙏👍
You know what Fioravanti (a friggin GOD) *didn't* design? The ugly Ferrari 328! Or the mega ugly brick on wheels, worshipped by morons, F40!
@@stepha5926 he designed the 308, which if you noticed is highly related to the 328 ugliness! To each his own
@jasonjcr_cars819 wrong buddy. He designed the 308 - which is a *gorgeous* car; then he left Pininfarina, and some *hack* was tasked with modifying the perfect 308. They naturally turned it into the ugly 328 (ie: your car).
@ Roger!
Hi Jason, what exhaust have you got on your 328? Sounds great.
@@marcolucchini8173 hi Marco, that’s the standard Tubi system. Just the end unit. I highly recommend them for the end result!

@@anthonypalladino6585 I would highly recommend making that happen too!
I enjoyed 127,000 miles in a 308GTS which proved to be the most reliable car I have ever owned. I just followed the rule of warm up gently then once the oil reaches 200/210, thrash it to an inch of its life. I think the 308/328 are a much better bet than the later 355 (had one of those too) onwards. Like Jason says, you can do a lot of everyday servicing yourself.
@@jamesfairmind2247 thanks for your comments and reaffirming that the 308 /328 is absolutely the car to have from Maranello! That an impressive testament to her reliability/ drive ability James! Merry Christmas from Austria!
@@jasonjcr_cars819 Never had a single stranded breakdown in all that time. Just once around 100k miles on a stormy winters night I went through a deep flood and killed the crank shaft position sender on the way to Christmas with my family but I had got there so it didn't matter. When it didn't start for the first time ever I guessed what was wrong and simply ordered one in the post and fitted it in a few minutes and it started fine. Looking at your 328 makes me lust after one of those again. Used to think the 328 lacked the delicate lines of the 308 but then the deep front spoiler of my QV used to frequently get chunks chewed out of it on rough English backroads at high speed and since I only buy blue or black Ferraris in black the 328 looks absolutely fine. Happy Christmas to you.
Hey J!! I usually don't get notifications for shorts! I'm soo happy I was recommended this on the site!! This is EXACTLY what I wanted to see! Pleaseee do the Testarossa as well!! A bit longer too so it's not a short and full screen for the computer and I get a notification :) You don't have to drive the car too, since it's winter, just a night showcase, if you can :)

@@jasonjcr_cars819 Merry x-man J! I hope you'll film it full screen better haha, but if not, I'll take a short haha. I can't wait to see all the guage lights and interior lights of the testarossa at night like this one!! I saw your other shorts of it and it was perfect!!
@ I will do what I can! Unfortunately the cars are now in winter sleep mode and not close to me now!
@@jasonjcr_cars819 I understand, no problem J! Thanks so much! May they rest well haha
Absolutely! Less a problem on daily used cars like Porsches. There is more faith in reliability on those. Don’t think it’s true, though. A big problem is that all these low mileage Ferraris have even more issues that higher milage cars as they haven’t been driven regularly! I payed that bill so I know. It costs a fortune to fix all the bugs of a 30 year old Ferrari to get it reliable and in full function. I also payed a fortune on a Porsche 993 purchased with higher milage (100.000mls) from a Porsche dealer. Same running costs in repairs and the car was only 20y old at that time. They are all old cars. No matter if Ferrari, Porsche and so on… just buy what you love and be prepared for the bills 💸😅👍🏻

Hi Jason, thank you for your shares and experience. What exhaust system did you buy for the 328- did you say Tubi style and exact type would you recommend and the costs incl. the works on it (service)? Is it approved for streets and not only for tracks? Does it not only sound different but adds also performance? Did you exchange the whole exhaust system or just some parts (muffler, manifolds, catalytic converter, pipes)? Mine is 328 gtb 1986. Any recommendations? Cheers
Sounds fantastic. Many thanks.
Great video and spot on with the analysis. I’ve had my 89 328 for 22 years and still get a buzz every time I drive it. One important point to make. 328’s are generally bomb proof but they were built to be used. If you don’t use the car regularly, parts will fail and some are becoming increasingly difficult (and expensive) to replace as they are no longer manufactured, such as the ABS unit on post 88 cars including the 328, 348 and 355. Bottom line is use them and enjoy them, and they won’t let you down - usually!
@@DavidReitman-d4d yeah that’s very good advice! I absolutely understand how they need to be used. Mine does not like to sit for a week, or six months between seasons lol I don’t have an ABS car so I won’t have that exact issue, but I’m sure something like else will sneak up! Thanks for your note David!
Heck yeah!! Love the pov shot of the testarossa, makes me feel like I'm driving it!!! The 328 is also a dream with the top off. J's living in both worlds as always!!

Favorite ferrari!
A lot of people do the same with Corvettes. It’s important to remember that cars are meant to be driven and enjoyed. The thrill of the open road, the roar of the engine, and the camaraderie of fellow enthusiasts are what make owning an exotic car special. Instead of letting it sit in the garage, take it out for a spin, attend car shows, or join clubs. Yeah dude.
Excellent video and review of your finding of the 328 GTS. Beautiful design by Fioravanti and nice small dimensions for tighter European moutain roads and country roads, much better than the later testarossa for these types of roads. However period road tests rated the unassisted steering above all its rivals not so much the gearchange; they did complain about cross winds at speed on the autobahn affecting stright line stability noticeably, Actually Nicola Materazzi who was overseeing the 308QV/308 turbo in 1983, mentioned to Enzo Ferrari that there had been lot of reports of Ferrari clients not being happy with the 308s performance that the then BMW M3 was quicker than their Ferrari 308QVs and cost a lot less which is why Enzo suggested a 300hp 308 but Nicola Materazzi said it must produce 400hp and he could do it whereapon Enzo put him in charge of developing/producing the car. Phil Hill the ex lemans winnning driver for Ferrari said of the 288 that the 308 should have looked like that from its launch in '75. I mean the slightly later 328 only added a handful of hp and torque and should of produced much more to compete with the competitiion; the original glassfirbe 308 of 1975 whose body was used as the basis of the 288GTO was significantly lighter also than the later 308/328 and it had also dry sump preventing oil starvation at heavy loads and a sweeter souding carb fed engine than the later fuel injected engine that needs an aftermarket exhaust to sound sweet. The '75 308 lightness made up slightly for the deficit in hp. Also earlier 308s had had interior controls which were much more plasticky than earlier 308s, especially the switchgear (windows and air conditioning) on the central mount. Lastly like you said it is imperative to get a well looked after example that has been driven regularly because these 308/328s are much more maintenance intensive than newer cars, seeing the amount of money put into a long term 308QV GTS bought by a mechanically minded couple with low miles in the usa but which had a mixed maintenance history. I admire the brave people like yourself enjoying the 328 for what it is, a beautiful and quick sports car, but it is capable of long vacations as your only car on vacation if you can stand the seats which my friends said are not great after many hours to sit on for comfort.
@@cbca6567 thanks for taking the time to write back. Yes, there are some realities of how the 288 is the better looking car then all, but in hindsight, that’s how all limited production models have turned out. More exotic. Design is always a tricky thing. It’s never right for everyone, but I’d say the 308/328 have stood the test of time well. I would challenge you on the Testarossa. The 328/308 are only slightly better or more forgiving when you get closer to the limits. But moving quickly on my tighter mountain roads, I.e. averaging 100 km’s/ hr it’s just as good and perhaps more rewarding as it’s gearbox is slightly more tractor like. In a good way of course! lol Thanks again!
@@jasonjcr_cars819 Thank you for your reply. I did not check your videos on your Testarossa yet and although it is a striking car with characterful engine it was primarily marketed for the US market because the 365BB/512BB were never officially sold there. European clients of these cars complained of the cabin heating up too much, so Ferrari put the radiators at the side of the car for the Testarossa and designed bodywork around it which made the car so wide, especially the rear, again better for straight roads or autobahns. The Testarossa was also not a sports car and Ferrari intended it to be its GT car and Jim Glickenhaus famously drove his all year including winter, bought new, everywhere until it disintegrated from corrosion.! I have been in it as a passenger and it is very low and wide and the owner said it was difficult to see out of the rear compared to other cars, but said the countach is just as bad, and he was very cautious on small country roads and tries to avoid them because it takes up half of the other side of road too. It also has a heavy weight bias on the rear axle too and i felt the cars weight transfer going round corners at speed enough to think it is better at 7 tenths or cruising than used as a sports car, with the design flaw of the geabox being underneath the engine giving a high polar centre of gravity. They tried to improve this with the TR, sitting the engine/gearbox lower, but the 512M just added titaium rods and crank to make it rev easier and produce slightly more power.
@ I definitely touch on all those points in my video on her. I definitely don’t find her too wide. I’m definitely in an area where we have narrow roads, it doesn’t faze me, but I’ve lived in Europe for along time now. I think it comes down to the deficiency-compared to what year of car? One can fault these classics left right and center, but it’s really about how they make you feel. Check it out and let me know what you think! Cheers Jason
@cbca6567 The 308 / 328 / Mondial are NOT maintenance intensive cars at all. These cars are very uncomplicated and analog. The newer generation Ferrari 355 / 360 / 599 etc are much much more expensive to run. My 328 GTS that I owned for 10 years needed nothing more than normal servicing around 1500 Dollar a year.
