Just Some Honest Hard Work II - ep33 - 230 Year Old Farmhouse Renovation
We do a lot of jobs, seemingly neverending with no finish in sight. But we make progress and that's what counts. Our goals are to remove stones and gravel from our garden soil, and to make a damaged barn wall accessible for repairs.
We are Lex and Marianne. On this channel we are sharing our story about renovating a 230 year old neglected and abandoned half-timbered (fachwerk) farmhouse in Germany. Our goal is to turn it into a beautiful, comfortable, ecological, debt-free, sustainable and self-sufficient homestead. And we have no building experience. Great! What could go wrong?

My mother was born in the Depression era ,1930s New England, and grew up on a farm where everything was used and reused and never thrown away. I wouldn’t call her a hoarder, but it was close. So when she passed 20 years ago I had to clean out her house. It was quite a job, and I actually ended up needing help just from sheer decision fatigue. It made all the difference though, I felt 100 pounds lighter! Unfortunately, I need to do it again with all my stuff this time! 🤦‍♀️ Maybe this fall when it’s cooler I’ll order a dumpster, lol. All this to say, I feel you, and you have a worthy goal. Perhaps watching your efforts will give me the kick in the pants I need to do the same. 😂

It's not an easy task, I've been through something similar many years ago. You know what you're trying to do, so anything that doesn't add to that should be gone. Things that are really great finds that you can't use, you should list it for anyone interested, they could be moving it for you.👍
