We are a small soap business starting on our journey and would love to take you with us. We love creating soap and experimenting with new techniques. We'll also be doing some content around the how-to side of things as well. So if soap making, soapy business, and how-to sounds like your thing then we'd love to have you join us for the ride.
Finding a lasting natural green in cold process soap
Throughout the journey of delivering this custom soap order we have learnt so much about natural colourants. Often it’s tricky to find lasting greens and purple in natural colours that survive saponification and hold without fading. Our solution was to heed the experience of The Sussex Soap co. and combine stable colourants to achieve the unicorns 😊 In this video I combine Indigo + Annatto Seed oil infusions to achieve a gorgeous forest green.

Making Blue Spirulina & Paprika cold process soap

Come along as we experiment with using blue Spirulina as a natural blue colourant for cold process soap making. Traditionally soap makers have used Woad or Indigo as their blue natural colourants so I was keen to see if blue spirulina could be an additional option. I was super pleasantly surprised by how it turned out 😍😍 using tge powder as an oil infusion seems to make all the difference. Let ...

Making Madder Root, Paprika, and Turmeric cold process soap

This soap was probably my favourite of the natural colourant experiments I’ve done. I’ve had a gorgeous fragrance oil ‘Passionfruit & Pawpaw’ from Heirloom and it is my absolute favourite scent, so I wanted something special colour wise to showcase it. The outcome of the natural oil infusions of Madder Root, Parika, and Turmeric were far beyond my expectations. I’m excited to share my cold proc...
Making Rose Geranium & Palmarosa cold process soap

Sometimes things don’t go to plan when making cold process soap. I found out that Rose Geranium and/or Palmarosa don’t play nicely with our recipe. Even though the EO blend riced, the end result wasn’t too bad 😊 smells beautiful 💐 I also enjoyed trying out the different natural colourants for pink with the Himalayan Rhubarb taking my fancy…let me know in the comments which one you preferred ? Making Turmeric ‘Citrus’ cold process soap

Using natural colourants when making cold process soap can be hit and miss. In this soap making session I tried a Turmeric oil infusion and loved the immediate change in color. However, the usage rates of the oil infusion could definitely be bumped up a notch as they cured quite light. It still made a beautiful soap that smells incredible though 🥰 Have you used Turmeric? Alkanet root and Madder root are some of the most popular natural colourants used by soap makers. Naturally I had to give them a try to see what all the hype was about 😁 I used infused oils to colour the soaps and they did not disappoint. My pour and swirling techniques, however, leave a lot to be desired 🤭 Join me as I try some new-to-me natural colourants. Have you tried these? What did you t...

Join me as I experiment with using natural colourants for our cold process soaps. This batch is using green and blue Spirulina that has been infused in olive oil using the hot infusion method. It turned out quite light but still beautiful 😍 Blue Spirulina makes a beautiful blue at such a light usage amount so I’m keen to try a higher amount down the track 😊 Have you tried Spirulina in soap? Bacon Soap Disaster: What Happened Next?
Very informative
Perfect soap colors! Which brand of Blue Spirulina do you use. They are not all made equal. :]
Hi @sueburns6988 this is what I bought but it doesn’t seem to be available at the moment amzn.asia/d/6uZJ380
How did aussie sandalwood hold up? That would be an expensive bar of soap but gorgeous I bet.
They all behaved really well, except for Benzoin, that can accelerate trace. The funny thing was I had to replicate Australian Sandalwood without using Australian Sandalwood 😂 we eventually matched it with an EO blend, but it was quite a process. Certainly more cost effective then straight Sandalwood EO 😉
What one was your favourite and what was the buyers favourite?
My favourite was the Alpine French Lavender. Our customer loved the straight French Lavender 🥰 the differences were subtle but I think the Alpine Lavender is a bit more mellow 🙂
Beautiful! Sorry it took me a week or so to get the time to watch these two colour videos. I think this green turned out the best, it's really nice and suits the Australian scent too. :) Holly from soap addicts x
Thanks so much for watching them Holly 🥰
Thank you for the experiments Amanda!
Lol... It was bacon.. now it's spam!😂😅
😂😅 not exactly the direction we’d hoped for but you do the best you can with what you’ve got 😁
Thank you for the great video. Could you possibly share where you got your blue spirulina from? Apparently, not all blue spirulina are created equal, but yours is producing an amazing blue color.
Hi @pepamassih1508 this is what I bought but it doesn’t seem to be available at the moment amzn.asia/d/6uZJ380
Great video! Thanks for sharing ❤
Thank you 🥰 I love your videos! They’re so calming and helpful ❤️
@@ivorycreekhandmade aw thank you ☺️ that's lovely to hear 💕
Hello fellow Australian soap maker. This is Katherine from coconut Luxe Naturals, what an amazing attempt at Simi's soap. I just received her book yesterday and it is absolutely amazing 😁.
@coconutluxenaturals Hi Katherine 👋🏼 it’s so lovely to meet other Australian soap makers 🥰 thank you for the kind words. I purchased the kindle version so have to wait until next week hahaha I’m glad you’ve got your hands on the book and are enjoying it ❤️ I love your soaps! They’re gorgeous 😊
Can you make soap frosting with this recipe?
Hi @marisolvalez4719 you sure can 😊 I’ve used the base recipe for piping roses in the past.
@@ivorycreekhandmade I really like that your soap is all natural..I purchased my stick blender today and my scale so I'm going to see how it goes 😂... I tried making soap like three years ago and it came out so weird I ended up throwing it away ..So I'm giving it another go ..Thanks for sharing your knowledge on soap making the healthier version
@marisolvalez4719 that’s fantastic news (the giving it another go bit, not the all went to poop the first time bit 😁)! I hope it all goes well for you second time around 🥰
I love it! ❤
thank you 😊
@@ivorycreekhandmade You're welcome!

Very pretty
Thanks 😊
very nice soap .. natural soaps are the best... just a thought you need a better micro for better audio outcome and the music is too loud in between .. ty for sharing
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch the video and for reaching out with help to improve 🥰🥰 I’ll definitely look into improving the audio.
what are your measurements??
Hi Tee Cee. The soap recipe or the colourants?
@@ivorycreekhandmade the soap recipe please
@teecee3143 sure 😊 38% Olive oil 30% Coconut oil 30% Sustainable palm oil (RSPO certified) 2% Castor oil 1 tablespoon of colloidal oatmeal 1 tablespoon of honey (dispersed in hot distilled water than let cook down before adding) Goat’s milk
Ficou linda 😊
oh man... It didn't turn out too bad... 😊 If it still works like soap in the end?
Hi Jamie, yes that’s the good thing about soap…even ugly batches still get you clean 😂 The rebatched soap turned out lovely and had the bonus of floating so my little one loved it 😁
@@ivorycreekhandmade cool! 🥓 ☺️
Pl. Share the measurement of oil n all
Hello 👋🏼 380g olive oil 300g Coconut oil 300g RSPO certified sustainable palm oil 20g castor oil Water:Lye ratio 1.5:1 You’ll need to put the oils through a lye calculator to get the measurements for lye and water. Then I just split the batter off by eye. If you’re not familiar with the fragrance you’re using, put it in last and maybe consider upping the water:lye ratio to 1.8:1 to give yourself some extra time. Hope this helps 🙂
If you can trust me, may I suggest that you forget milk as an additive and go back into soap calc and look for, milk, any bovine, milk actually has a sap rate and that is where you will find it. I have not had any issues since adding milk in my recipe. I now reference to those so called techniques as pseudo science
Thanks for clearing that up 😊 I did look at the ‘milk, bovine’ option in soap calc but wondered if goat’s milk fit that category. I also wondered if it was like pine tar, you pick it but it doesn’t actually change the lye amount. Now I know ❤️
@ivorycreekhandmade I wasn't interested in joining in the u tube tribe, but I was getting know where fast trying to reach out to people with high profiles. I did put up 2 examples, HOT process, to prove my point last week...money where my mouth is..a recipe is included, you also know what milk is actually adding, Laurie, myristic, etc not just a creamy lather...thank you for not dismissing me, also works with buttermilk...
@@JustNanJustSoap thank you for taking the time to watch my video and to share your experience with me 😊 it would be interesting to see the results of your recipe in a cold process soap 🤔 I think your method of adding the goats milk and the milk in oils method are the same, but you’re saying it should be added to the recipe as a saponifiable rather than an additive (essentially the methods the same but your method is accounting for and adjusting super fat, whereas the additive method doesn’t account for the extra super fat)…is that right? I wonder than if goat’s milk has a different SAP value to bovine milk? I think I read somewhere that cows milk has approx. 1.5% fat and goats milk has about 4% 🤷🏻♀️ no idea but definitely food for thought ☺️
For soap that gave you so many surprises in the making, it sure turned out pretty! Love your colors!
Thank you ☺️
Amazing!!!
As the oils and lye solution mix together the chemical change starts to thicken the ‘batter’. You’ll often hear soap makers refer to ‘trace’ which is when you dribble the batter over itself and it leaves a trail. Some additives can speed this up e.g. fragrances, clays, alcohol, micas, etc. By far the most fast moving additive I’ve used is pine tar!!! It accelerates so much you can actually get away with just using a whisk instead of a stick blender 😁
You have to wonder why the manufacturer continues to put these fragrance oils out without a humungous warning label! I have one word to say to them: Karma sucks. (Well, 2 words) Thanks for the video!
Beautiful! 🎉
That was such a happy ending to the bacony heartache of Chapter 1! Nearly brought a tear to my eye! The soaps are great! And they float! You can't ask for more than that! I am planning to make a bacon soap after the holidays using rendered bacon fat, and fragrancing with Radient Red Maple from Crafters Choice, and a few drops of Campfire from a highly suspect source on Amazon. What could go wrong!? Many thanks for this uplifting video! Have a great week! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
That sounds like an awesome soap! Would love to hear how it turns out ❤️
Thank you for sharing this video! It feels good to know that I am not alone!!!!I am the proud Queen of Soap-on-a-Stick! Thought I was the only one for a long time, until I realized most RUclipsrs edit it out, lol. It's refreshing to see such an authentic video, so I subscribed! 😊
Thanks so much, Susan 🥰 I’m happy to stand with you in the soap-on-a-stick club 😂 it certainly helps teach you how to pivot hahaha I now always have a plan ‘C’ 😁
Very pretty “abstract” watermelon!
Sorry, couldn't hear you
That’s a shame :( something for me to be more mindful of in future videos 👍🏼
Spectacular! Your attention to detail is perfection, and so is this soap.
Thank you so much for the beautiful comment 🥰 I’m glad you liked it.
Such a complex process, and you did a beautiful job with it!

Wow you did a great job! Very beautiful design Amanda 😍👏
Thank you 🥰
So awesome! I was very curious about how you poured your soap, so I'm really glad you shared this video! The colors are so bright and beautiful and the swirl pattern is so unique! Also love that you got your family involved in the cutting of your soap. 😍
Thanks, Amy ❤️ I’d never used a slab mould before and wasn’t use to working with the smaller batter amount. I over blended it and changed my mind about the pour at the last second haha not quite what I wanted but ran out of time for a second attempt 🤦🏻♀️ My daughter gets very grumpy if we cut our soaps without her help 😁
Very nice!
Thank you! 😊
I've done the same thing a few times. Most fragrances actually survive the heat of the rebatch "cook." Nice save!!
Thanks! 😊 what was the worst fragrance to accelerate on you?
what a beautiful style and video warm thanks nz
Thank you for the kind words and for taking the time to watch it 🥰
