would it not be better to go down a bit more and put steels just above the ceiling of the first floor to create more ceiling height? It seemed a bit claustrophobic. I know it requires some timber cut that carries the ceiling but I am assuming 10-12cm is a good gain.

That's a really helpful, succinct video. We've recently moved into a property with the GPL top-hung windows, but they haven't all been set up the same. One of them springs open when you release the handle, so the spring tension obviously isn't right. I've seen a Velux video showing how to adjust the tension, but I'm struggling to get to the springs. Can it be done from inside the room, does anyone know?

The weather has held me back loads too.. I do loft conversions too but only on my own 90% of time and with weather I've struggled.. only 3 done this year.. in careless though, one was the biggest I've done to date😊

Hiya, great info. So our new property has a vast area of space, what it doesn't have is a vast head height. But, being 6' tall, it's not impossible to walk in the middle, I just need to duck a slight bit. So, my question is, the roof is a steep degree, definitely a sag free design on the left and the right as you look down the tunnels (all directions) but in the center there are ridge beams, they are held in by two nails above and below.. I wouldn't even say structural, they are nailed to the sides of the ceiling and ridge beams (floating) .. are these safe to remove? They are NOT down supported or original truss design, I've even found one without a single nail shot into the base piece. What do you think?

Hi Dan. Sorry to bother you. We currently I trying to sort a hip to gable with dormer. The loft guy came out and said everything was OK but the exterior wall the steels would sit. The wall is non traditional wall made of laing easiform concrete type 3 (mk3) the house was built about 1948. Basically have you done any conversion with this construction. The loft guy said he been doing it for 30 years and never seen it. Thanks for your time Sam
