    Hi Pete, one year on from my last comment and I have finally started to assemble these figures. I was wondering if you had found time to assemble these yourself yet? There are two things that I have noticed about the kit that you didn't bring up in your review. The first is that this kit, unlike a lot of other Tamiya German figure kits, doesn't come with helmet decals, the other thing is that the helmets themselves seem to be really oversize for the figures, an image of Rick Moranis in the Spaceballs movie springs to mind each time I look at them. I haven't glued them on yet but I'm seriously thinking about looking through the spares box for replacements.

      Hi Martin. Must admit I haven't given these a good look at, since I did the review (and that was 3 years ago. My God, has it been that long??), but, I have made myself promise, for every vehicle I do, I have to do a figure set too, from now on. So maybe these will finally see the light of day (and some glue and paint). These guys are wearing Mid to Late war uniforms etc, (1943 on), and by this time, at least at the front, helmet decals have seen their day. Although I have seen late war film of helmets with decals, these are usually re-issued early helmets, for Volksturm units etc. As for the size of the helmets in this kit, I never noticed it, but, now that you've mentioned it, even in the pics of the actual figures on the back, they do look a tad "Spacebally". Great pick up mate. Might check it all out in the morning (it's 11pm our time). Cheers Mate!

      @@PetesKits Good point about the mid war uniforms, that never occurred to me. I have so far managed to find four replacement helmets which really alter the look of the figures, the kit helmets are way too big to be useable without looking silly. Cheers Pete.

    Hi Pete. My thoughts as well price wise. I saw the 2020 release in a pile of Italeri for just over $60. Further down in the pile I saw the 2010 release for $30. (AUD) Different decals, 3 schemes. Nice kit for $30 (now in my pile of Italeri). I have their 1/48 Autoblinda AB 41 which is really nice as well (for $28). Accidently bought some 1/48 GMC 6x6 resin wheels (thought they were 1/35 - brain fade!) so now I have Tamiya's 1/48 US Refuelling Truck too! Thanks for the review and the cool photos of it in use. Hi Matt. Glad you liked the review. Yeah. It is a bit odd the way the prices for virtually the same kit, but "updated" with different decals, are set. Currently have my eye on Tamiya's 1/48 US refueller at $30 Au, but I haven't seen Italeri's 1/48 Autoblinda for ages. And don't worry we all suffer from brain fade. @PetesKits lol, weathering for the win. I have to admit that I've been having a great time adding in all the missing panels and replacing the welds with some scribing and greenstuff. As much as it's a simple kit, it has great potential to ease modelers into learning building techniques beyond assembling and painting... and weathering... and basing etc :P The diorama im building is of the Panther which rolled off a bridge in Houffalize. A bit of debris and weathering effects and i think this model will be well suited. Belly up and all

I just purchased the 25pdr Field Gun and Quad Tractor, which has the two separate Japanese/English instructions and no paint call-outs but has the newer Tamiya Tech Tips sheet included and new decals (but copywritten 1974 still). I think some people don't like the tracks because they are your typical vinyl tracks, that most kits have, and are not individual Links, or Link & Length tracks, and they sometimes, don't sit on a tanks wheels, like the real track did on the real tank. The cure for this of course, is to glue the vinyl tracks to the wheels, but this can be very fiddly, and doesn't always work. Of course there's always, After Market track kit, for the Tiger, but sometimes, these cost as much as the original model. Personally, I'm fine with the vinyl tracks. They look fine, especially with some mud or dirt, are relatively easy to join together, and go on without too much drama. Thanks for the question, hope this helped! Cheers!

    One of the things the Tamiya kit also got wrong was the headlights. The initial Tigers sent to N. Africa "Tunis" the Headlights were on a pedestal mount on the front part of the hull not on top of the main hull. The Front cover of the kit shows the Headlights in the proper place, but then when you look at the views on the box it's wrong. The Directions picture shows the correct placement.. This kit however does have the sprue for the proper placement. My kit, god knows how old it is does not.

    • @PetesKits
      @PetesKits Месяц назад

      Good spotting. Never noticed that myself, but yes, the 3 view artwork on the side of the box shows the headlights in the wrong spot, even though the instructions, and the parts match the correct, Initial Tiger set up. Probably just a slight breakdown in communication between Tamiya and the artwork team. The side views are for Tamiya's "Early" Tiger I kit, just "africanised" (if that's a word). Interestingly, there are quite a few images on line that show Tigers in North Africa, with different headlight setups; singles, brackets only with no lights, or no brackets/lights at all. If you still have the kit number, check on Scalemates, that'll tell you how old she is. Built my first Tamiya Tiger back in the '70's, that's how long they've been around!

    This looks like it was just scaled up from the 1/72 version of this model, but with seperate tyres. The engine you'll find is the same in all the Roden Opel Blitz models. The front wheel;s look like the same as the 1/72 models, in that they could be rotatable, and steerable, but don't try it as it is very fragile especially in 1/72 scale, and is probably the same in this scale. I've been a long time fan of the 1/72 scale models especially the Blitz based models It's good to see someone making a Roden model as they don't seem to get much love on the internet, which is a pity as they do make some very interesting subjects especially in the 1/72 range. Their command version of this model in 1/72, being especially good, although the PE roof-rack is especially fragile. and it comes with a full interior including a coding machine and even a 1/72 type-wrighter. Good luck making this model just be warned it's not a beginners model.One tip, only lightly tack the roof on and paint the model before adding the windows as the windows are too fragile to mask, so they'll need to be added after painting and you'll find removing the roof a big advantage.

      Thanks for the tips! I wouldn't be surprised if this is an upscaled model. I've struck that before in the past with other models. I've built a few Mirage Hobby, and RPM, kits in the past, and they always have a few interesting challenges to their builds, but never a Roden, so it will be interesting to see how this one turns out. And yeah, vehicle interiors, like trucks, and cars, do take some planning, and usually a fair bit of pre-painting along the way, but I always enjoy the challenge. Currently on the hunt for some suitable sitting figures for the interior. The driver figure I'm going to use, I already have in my stash, just need some passengers! I'm going to dig this kit out of the stash and give it another look over. I think you've just given me my next build! Cheers and thanks again for the tips!

      Hi mate. I agree, it would have been much nicer if they'd made the road signs as decals. Thankfully there are a lot of After Market signs to cover that. The bike that comes with the 88 is Tamiya's old Zundapp KS750, which was released, along with their BMW R75, in 1973, in a 2 motorcycle kit, under MM123. Saw one of those kits recently on Ebay going for $75 au,a s the starting bid. Wouldn't mind getting one but not at that price. Cheers!
