Flight simming.. Model making.. Hardware reviews.. Fixing.. Tips.. Tricks.
Welcome to the Simmo2sim site. I hope you'll find something here to interest you.
Lots of current and retrospective reviews of flight sim aircraft and scenery. (X-Plane only) Sim hardware and utilities. Plus the whole site sprinkled with relaxing model making videos (my second time consuming interest)
I prefer to look at unusual subjects that might be ignored by other sites. It also doesn't matter if the subject is payware, freeware, old or new, it's all welcome.
A quick disclaimer in that everything I review has been purchased by me. (unless freeware) The views or opinions expressed in my videos are solely my own and do not necessarily reflect those of any other person or company.

How to Make Paper Aircraft Wheels
Просмотров 2648 месяцев назад
The wheels on paper aircraft are traditionally a simple affair, especially on those 'easy to make' models. It's understandable of course that if you want to make a quick model you wouldn't want to spend ages on the undercarriage. But if you need a little bit more detail then maybe this video might inspire you to create something that is 'show worthy'. In this video I concentrate on first buildi...

The Bell XFL Airabonita was a US experimental shipboard interceptor developed for the US Navy in 1939. It was similar to and a parallel development of the land-based P-39 Airacobra, differing mainly in the use of a tailwheel undercarriage in place of the P-39's tricycle gear. Only one prototype was manufactured having lost out to the Vought Corsair. This large scale paper model from Fiddlers Gr...

Bro you can send me these b 36
Hi there, Sorry I can't supply you with this. You can purchase from Fiddlers Green. www.fiddlersgreen.net/ They are very cheap though. Thanks
Some great ideas here. I see you are also cutting on glass plate. Never thought of that myself. I also need to use scissors more often as well - I go through blades very quickly. It is surprising how quickly your knife blade gets blunt cutting card/paper. Good luck with your projects and thanks again for sharing...Jim
Thanks for your comment Jim. I find cutting on the glass plate works well. The blade won't mark the plate and you can also feel when you have cut completely through thick paper. I find that pressing too hard though can brake the tip of the blade.... Simmo
I love the use of the reverse close pegs I'll give it ago😊. Regards
Hi Simmo well, I have finished the HP42 thanks to the help I got from watching your video, made a few errors but managed to tidy them up “somewhat” The main issue I had was the vague instructions provided and the stringy glue I used is there a glue you would recommend for this type of model? Thanks
I'm glad you enjoyed the model. I mainly use Hi-tack glue for normal use, PVA for large areas, CA and 5 min. epoxy for difficult jobs and very rarely I might use solvent based UHU contact adhesive. Thanks for your comment. Simmo
Good job! 👏 Congratulations.
Thanks for your comment.
Excellent Job Simmo - Question: how / what are you printing your thicker sheets of 'paper' on? if I try printing anything thicker than a normal A4 sheet in my printer it either jams up or doesn't pick the paper up in the first place. I can see this model being even more fiddly at its normal scale.
I printed this model on 200gsm paper which in retrospect was a little too thick and would have been easier with 160gsm. I don't have a problem printing with my printer (a Canon) thinner paper, 80gsm is in a front cassette which feeds and bends the paper around a roller and thicker papers fed from the back which bends the sheet to a lesser degree. Thanks for your comment. Simmo.
Nice one. Same problem - Will go straight there. Chz
Thanks for sharing your build - I very much appreciate you not doing time lapses :) I never see the point of watching someones hands moving a hundred miles and hour. lol All the best mate and great job with the build...Cheers....Jim
Thanks for your comment.
Great and instruction build.
Amazing build.
An interesting model and a very nice presentation of how to make it. However, it would have been more complete with explanations about scaling from 1:60 to 1:33.
En donde se consiguen esas plantillas de las llantas
Gracias por tu comentario. Los hice e imprimí yo mismo.
I am a plastic scale modeler and i haven't yet tried building a paper model. You really made me think about it. Amazing hobby you have
Thanks for your comment. I'm sure you will like it. I have found that some techniques and materials are transferable between the hobbies.
I watched this part of the construction with great pleasure. Thank you for presenting your work technique and improvement ideas in as much detail as possible. Subscribing to your channel was an inspired choice.
A beautiful model. I like your clean build. As usual, a relaxing and instructive video at the same time.
Thanks for your comment.
Very interesting and instructive
What is the size of the paper for 1:33 scale? Perfect description of the assembly process!
I use A4 160gsm (100 lbs) paper. Please note that you can only get the 1:60th scale model from the Stahlhart papercraft site. This 1:33 scale model is not for distribution.
Aeronave Muito bonita.
Good to see you've managed to find some time in your busy schedule Simmo - good subject matter aswell 👍
Thanks for your support Pete.
the fix is to open and spray MD40 to the potentiometers, i had the same exact problem like you, and i did with my quadrante as well, and it fixes when using the md40 spray it will eliminate all the bad contacts, but you need to find the potentiometer of that axis, you may do it to all since its open PS-lol you did it..my answer was to early..sorry for that, great job PS2- always do a test before closing because sometimes can even be something else, you should had done all potentiometers, i love pots because i'm a professional guitar player and i use them all day long, with the guitar or even pedals, humidity is a Pot killer cheers brother
Hey I have only just seen this! Excellent job Simmo✌️I have just started this v complicated paper model and your video has been of tremendous help to me in understanding how it goes together many thanks for posting this 👏
Thanks, you are welcome. My grandfather flew in the HP42 when he worked for Imperial Airways and so when I saw this kit I knew I just had to make it. It certainly is an impressive model.
What button do you map to engage the parking brake?
In the past l have done some building and designing of my own card models. One design was based on the External Tank of the Shuttle with a different nose mounted orbiter in 1/72. Both the ET and the orbiter where over 105mm in diameter. This required some very stiff internal structure. Another large model is the 1/48th scale Saturn V from the Lower Hudson Valley Gift Shop. A free download the model is not cheap to build though. Comes in at around 8.5 ft tall. As designed the 1st, 2nd and 3rd stages have no internal framing. You are left on your own. One trick l found was to use a long piece of card or artists paper and cut a piece just slightly longer than the internal radius of the skin. The skins on the 1st and 2nd stage are four seperate pieces. I used strips of tracing paper to join the skins together. Thin and quite tough. The long piece of card or artists paper was then slipped inside and the ends set against each other. Being just slightly longer than the inside radius this put the skin under tension and it naturally assumed a very circular shape. The same trick could probably be used for smaller tube shaped sections.
Thanks for your informative comment. 8.5 ft tall? I don't have ceilings in my house high enough to display such a monster.😯
@@simmo2sim Neither do l. In truth the Interstage section between the 1st and 2nd stages defeated me. External and inner skins with very thin ring segments around the inside diameter. If you watch video of a Saturn V launch when the 1st stage seperates the Interstage seperates next and can be seen spinning away. In 1/48th that's around 210mm in diameter. And about 80mm tall. With the outer and inner skins being made up of four seperate pieces. I never could get the degree of circularity l wanted. And to think the real thing had to support the weight of Vehicle above that point. At full thrust during launch.
Imagine the cost at this scale in styrene. When buying a plastic model you are really paying for the design work, injection molding machinery and the actual tooling costs. The actual model and box cost very little.
Thanks for your comment. Plastic models (even unbuilt) can be very impressive. I have a cupboard full, just gathering dust that I am very unlikely to build. Why do I keep hold of them? I don't know. I switched to paper models because I wanted to build a large scale HP-42 (my grandfather was a radio operator on this aircraft) It soon was evident to me that paper models are much cheaper, lots of variety and so much easier to store. You just need a modified skill set... Can't go back now. 🙂
I did not enjoy flying this airplane as well as the Colt.
Thanks for your comment.

Thankyou for correcting me.
Wow! what a nice plane.
What a great video; you have a new subscriber.
Thankyou, that's much appreciated.
Thanks, Simmo. Excellent video. Steve
Glad you enjoyed it
Where can I get instructions in English?
Thanks for your question, You may be able to get an English translation from Gomix but if you have a scanner and can scan the Polish instructions (turn the scan into a Jpg) you can go to Google Translate translate.google.com/?sl=de&tl=en&op=images Drop the jpg there and it will do the work for you. Hope that's been helpful. Simmo
Thanks for showing your latest delivery. I look forward to seeing some of these built.
hi do you know the how can we find template of this plane or is it possible to give us a link or something ?
Hi, Thanks for your comment. You can get this model from the Fiddlers Green website.. www.fiddlersgreen.net/ There are hundreds of models on this site and it represents really good value. Simmo

Fantastic job ~ many thanks for sharing details of the build ~ adding tissue paper, additional bulkheads and cocktail sticks for strength - love it. Is there a particular white glue you use? What do you apply the white glue with? Looks like a blue felt tip of some sorts? KR AndyT(Somerset)
Thanks for your comment Andy. That 'glue applicator' is one of the cake decorating tools. It has a silicone tip which cleans easily. As for glues it depends on the circumstances. I use (mainly) straight white PVA for large surfaces, superglue (thin) for awkward parts and 'Hi-Tack' glue for normal work. The Hi-Tack looks like PVA but it has a stronger and quicker set time. Simmo
Flare pistols were used upon return to the airfield with a "color of the day" so that the anti-aircraft defenses wouldn't accidentally shoot down their own planes.
Mystery solved!.. thanks for the info.
hey im wondering how you got those cessna styled rudder covers, did you 3d print them?
No, The cessna was one of the options you could buy at that time.
Beautifull ,and very educational to a guy who has been modelling for seventy years..Just dont think I could do all of the cutting......Again,great stuff....Ernie
Thanks Ernie.
With the size of the parts, I guess you need a slow drying glue. Great job.
It depends on the situation.. PVA normally but I also use Hi-Tack and sometimes superglue if it warrants it. Thanks for your comment. Simmo.
Nice work! The only blow I took flying in 35 years was when I got off a Link simulator like this.😂
It is a long way down! Thanks for your comment
Bravo! Some might say artist, I could say creator you are. Such details! I have seen the real McCoy many times. I did read that the 'USAF 'star' on the wheels was an 'added touch' done by the crew chief just for the movie. a personal touch, not was was asked for. So, indeed you are carrying on the 'final touch' tradition. I can't believe it all can be done with just paper. Great work!
I did wonder why I had not seen the stars on any other example pictures that I had researched and even watching the movie, the presence of the stars was 'patchy' at best. I guess it doesn't matter really. Anyway I'm glad you liked the videos and thanks for your comment.
Nice one Simmo 👍
Thanks Pete
Very enjoyable build/video series! Looking forward to next one.
Thanks for your comment.
Really cool model.
Thanks

Sticking silver stock: Super 77 spray adhesive. The quality of laminated paper model parts is dependent on the amount of water present in the adhesive. Super 77 has no water.
Thanks for the advice. I will look into it.
Many thanks very informative, I'm thinking about building this model as well as flying it.
Thanks for your comment.
Hmmm timely as I am thinking of buying this. Is this the Logitech Pro because I read good reviews on it? Thx
Thanks for your comment. These are Saitek Pro Flight Cessna Rudder Pedals. Saitek was rebranded Logitech G a while back but I think they are essentially the same product.
@@simmo2sim thx for replying. So they can be used for other planes not just Cessna?
Yes, any plane.
I downloaded and tried to start this plane. The blade starts to turn but won't start engine. I did everything correctly. I had to place the plane from the map at 10,000 feet and the wind finally turned the prop and got it running and i flew out back to the runway. It ran fine but it won't start by the regular starter. I tried everything and even made sure it wasn't a failure mode option. So strange.
It's been quite a while since I created the video but I think? I may have followed the advice on the X-plane.org download page for this aircraft.. forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/files/file/38418-eco-ercoupe-415c/ and changed the starter torque from 0.300 to 0.320 in Plane Maker. Hope this helps.
wow
You're right there!
Great sim.
Thanks for your comment.
@@simmo2sim 👌😎
I have always built plastic models...however, after watching this, I have decided to try paper. You make this seem very relaxing. I ran across your channel thanks to the RUclips algorithm.😂
Thanks for your comment Robert. I too started out with plastic models and I was making simple paper models at the same time (not always aircraft). Some of the techniques are similar so that makes it easy sometimes. I am still learning about different materials and glues and how varnishes react but I guess that is the same for plastic modelling. Anyway I wish you success. I can really recommend Fiddlers Green models as they are a really good introduction and of course they are really cheap
