Life Underfoot

Добавлен 30 апр 2014
Life Underfoot is a channel where we take a deep dive into the natural world to deliver high quality videos about wildlife! Everyone on our team has a biology degree and experience working in the field as both researchers and educators. We came together with the goal of creating videos that were both entertaining and educational and giving people a new and positive perspective on some of the lesser known wild animals often dwelling just out of sight or hiding underfoot.
The Life Underfoot Team:
Dr. Andrew Hoffman (Channel Creator and Host) - BA - Biology (Hanover College), MS - Biology (Missouri State University), Ph.D. - Fisheries and Wildlife (The Ohio State University)
John Buffington (Graphic Designer and Animator) - BS - Wildlife and Conservation Biology (Ohio University)
Zach Truelock (Videographer and Producer) - BS - Wildlife Biology (Purdue University)

Hellbent to Return
The hellbender is a giant, aquatic salamander native to much of the eastern and central US-but it is in deep trouble. Populations across their range have plummeted, but a parntership in southern Indiana has made impressive strides in restoring these amazing giants.

What Does the Digger Wasp Store in its Burrow?
I'm showing this video this week to my Budding Naturalists and Junior Naturalists classes as part of our watersheds and aquatic life units. Thank you for creating and sharing your awesome work!
Just found one outside my house. I guess she just came out the ground getting ready for winter-?
"Motherhood may not be the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of spiders" I grew up with Miss Spider's Sunny Patch Friends, so it's at least up there
My favorites I had so many pet frogs as a kid. My childhood home had a huge swamp right next to it that's where I spent most of my youth walking around in my Dad's oversized waders😂👍👍🤙
Cool video, subscribed
I just don’t like them on my bed
This is not the 'Daddy Long Leg" that are the venomous ones, they are talking about the Cellar Spider which is venomous and is also called Daddy Long Leg but can't bite because its fangs are too short.
What area are you in? Just saw a 5 ft full grown male on the top of browning mountain
I love the call of the bullfrog at 1:56
I love them even as a little girl I thought they were so cool.
We had a swarm of them in our front yard today. Have not witnessed this before. Maybe our soil is changing, no idea.
عندي صورك عنكبوت غريب كيف ارسلها لك
They're super chill 😎.
Just like many people, I have a fear of snakes. Nonetheless, I live in a fairly rural area (unbelievably, only one hour from New York City!), and we get all kinds of wildlife here: bears, foxes, turtles, turkeys, deer, mice, and snakes. I see a lot of garter snakes during the warm seasons but, although they give me the frights, I know they’re very good for the environment. So I just tell them, “You go your way, and I’ll go mine!” My dogs are very curious when they find them, but they instinctively know to stay away. I filmed this recent encounter with one of my dogs ruclips.net/user/shortsMDKXtI_AEsI?si=WPxIczhxl0oq41yJ
Growing up in Tulsa, we always called them "eyed elaters." I don't really know where the name came from, except perhaps "elateridae" being the family name for click beetles. They were unique, as most of the click beetles in Oklahoma were less than an inch long, and then there was this Jurassic beast, many times larger. It was always a joy to find one.
Thank you @lifeunderfoot4805 for posting this. It was very informative! I love seeing and hearing the green frogs that visit our koi pond.
Excellent. Turn Comments ON on the Ratsnake video. It's a great video, great camera work. We can all learn things from the comments.
Just spotted some in a school garden, big suckers
I have 1 or 2 in the yard. I need more.
worst video
Every year, these guys swarm the two oak trees in my backyard! I love watching them zoom around 💚 they are such dopey little beetles lol
Thanks for the video! I moved to San Diego a few months ago and was terrified by these big buzzing bugs. Good to know that they don't bite and hopefully this info will let my fear go.
Born and raised in San Diego (Oak Park) I literally just came in the house from taking my dog out in the backyard and searched this vid because they're everywhere right now 😂 I grew up catching them and I can tell you they're completely harmless lol if you observe them long enough you'll likely see them repeatedly crashing into your house, flipping over onto their back, and needed your assistance to fly again 😅
There in my barn every year guess they dont sting unless they feel rhere nest is threatend i even go in get my mower and drive it out and then out it up when im done. Even seen one before dragging a katydid in the hole
I hate these bugs so much. The sound of the wings terrifies me and I always run away when they get close
Ik at first they seem terrifying but they're really nice and docile lil beetles.
@@cesar6479naw…I don’t care if they docile…. they lowkey nasty asl….
There is reason to try to save something that will kill you
Pehla wala wasp insect hai or dusra wala grass hopper koi sathi Nehi . Jab unka egg Hacht hoga to khake bada hone kelie. Simple sa fanda hai khana store kr raha hai kids kelie😊
I have fig trees and I have those beetles too. Unfortunately, they eat all my figs and apricots. I don't like them at all. They are very harmful.
Butcher's Creek
Cool my dad collected these in the 80s all the time as pets
I have a big mature timber on my place. I named him Sergeant Major because I'd never seen so many chevrons.
They are klutzes
Kentucky Afield has several videos on RUclips about their efforts to restore the Hellbender populations. I remember the first time I saw one of these as a kid turning over rocks in a creek. I thought, "What the hell is that"?
Amen. A summer without their beautiful sound would be bad
Turns out Garter snakes, like the Hognose are both rear fanged venomous.
Definitely once captive. The calcium deficiency says it all. This guy knows his turtles.
Thank you for correctly saying "southern Ohio". Most people, including self-proclaimed "educated" people, would have incorrectly said "South Ohio".
The buzzy sound makes me itch 😭 😭
I have hundreds of these flying around in my backyard in Ohio. Would like to get rid of them
my man thought we came across one sais no sweety satatoga springs ny do not have rattlers there up in mountains
there pretty but same time can kill a person
gross gross evil things
I got some as pets
These are my favourite spiders.
just caught one tonight!!! was looking for wolf spiders and saw it’s eyes reflecting off my flashlight
Interesting. I saw one of these on a oak tree that was dead yesterday, couldn't get it out of my mind without knowing what it was. Makes sense that it was there, based off what you said
Hey man. I just found your video on timber rattlesnakes are not aggressive and just wanted to thank you for the video. It was a great showing of the nature of snakes and how we shouldnt be so fearful of, and aggressive towards them. Those wete some beautiful snakes you sbowed us and i think its awesome. Im heading to the seward mountains Cold river loop tomorrow and hope to see plenty of wildlife. Be well.
They are overpopulated here in Ohio. Kids can’t even swim in the pond safely.. so lots of them despite harvesting.. tell the truth. They have no natural predators.. they are yummy and I’ll keep eating them.
This really does make you appreciate all living things ❤❤❤❤
7-21-24 where are the June Bugs?
I noticed one turtle you showed had a “spikey” shell and the others had smooth shells. They all had that hook mouth. Are they both common snappers? Was the spikey one an alligator snapper?
