Diesel Heater Exhaust Hookup - DO IT RIGHT!
This is really helpful. Always wondered how much current my heater was drawing on startup and afterwards...thanks!
I got the exact same guitar from Sweetwater. Only problem I have is the volume pot on the bridge pickup is extremely scratchy. I've sprayed it with tuner spray several times and it smooths it out temporarily and then the scratchiness comes right back. I guess I will have to replace the entire volume pot. Frustrating!
Definitely sounds like a bad pot. Not sure if there is a warranty on these? Maybe contact Schecter and see?
Do my own homework to see if I could go through the wall safely... Bro why do you think I'm watching your video
5kw heater ? As in 5,000 watts an hour ? I’m researching . Trying to run one on my solar generator
I’m assuming that is the case, but not 100% certain. I have an 8kw and honestly, it doesn’t seem to put out any more or less heat. There is a video on my channel showing how run the heater on a bluetti power bank - might be useful for you.
Nice work. I heat my tiny home with a CDH that is connected to 3 deep cycle batteries and 300w of solar with a cheap 30a pwm charge controller.
That's great! Do you have a backup? I ended buying an extra one of these, just to have on hand.
@TheGergeDIY I've got spare parts for my Vevor heater. But it's been really reliable so far. The only mods I've done is I mounted it outside and I ran duct for the cold air intake as well as the heat so I'm warming my inside air. And I modified a 5 gallon Jerry can to be the new fuel tank. I just put a fuel filter at the end of the line so it sits down on the bottom of the tank.
@@MaritimeUnprepared ah nice! Yeah, I've accumulated some spare parts as well; glow plug, intake atomizer screens. Not much to these things really! I can't mount mine outside or store the fuel tank outside as it gets down to -30f here sometimes (it's been -40f/c) - not good for diesel fuel! I do plan to move my combustible air intake outside at some point this winter.
@TheGergeDIY Where are you located? I'm in New Brunswick Canada. It can get to -30°c but generally it doesn't get much below -20°c. My heater and fuel tank are outside in my mud room. The combustion intake is inside the entryway but the exhaust is vented through the wall
@@MaritimeUnprepared N.VT, QC border.
A small battery that can deliver the 150 watts needed on heater start is all you need. After less than two minutes the power drops to 40 watts. A charger that can make 12 volts 5 watts will keep the battery charged. Just make sure it has long term conditioning ability so it can't "boil" the battery when the heaters is off and all will be well. I use a mains connected 150 watt 240Vac to 12Vdc converter to drive the heater. Continuous demand is 40 watts but it needs the extra oomph (tech term) to drive the starting heater plug.
Good info. Too bad you couldn't put the meters next to one another and steady the camera. My LFP battery has an app and showed a 12A draw.
Finally som evid that makes sense 🙂
Hello, I have the same model in my workshop and has some pops issues and the the electrolytes capacitors has been changed exept of the main ones 30 UF 220 UF and I haven't found the problema yet, what would it be in that case. Has it happened to you?
@silviaespinel4835 - I don't have any pops at all and the Express 5:25 continues to work very well. At some point I will replace the filter caps, and I would definitely replace all of them at the same time. Replacing them is certainly what I would consider long term maintenance on a tube amp. You may have other issues. I've heard that that silver mica caps used in the MESA have caused issues. Check this channel: www.youtube.com/@PsionicAudio/videos - he has TONS of great videos, and I believe talks about MESA amps on occasion. I hope that helps!
how about a normal battery charger? they are cheap enough... or a power supply 13.4dc constantly charging while you have AC
Do it right and reclaim the wasted exhaust heat before it goes outside.
Make sure the nut you are going to put on the inside of the barrel will fit through the bunk hole.
The heater automatically goes through cool down/shut down when voltage drops too low. No worries about ruining your heater.
1 metre is approximately 3 feet 3 inches
If its indoors why not just use a 12v power supply direct ??
I do (see my other videos). I also use a battery that's recharged by solar. Using a battery is also useful if the power goes out.
What fucking battery is it
What battery are you using exactly
Thanks for this, but it doesn’t mention the use of a bulkhead fitting. This is a reasonable if not necessary additional part of installing spigots in these barrels.
dude i cant even put 1/2 sockets on it😭
That was clever. If you could connect a hose to it that would make flushing it and putting new water in way more easier since you ain't moving it once it's full unless it's on wheels.
Actually, it is not that hard to move such a drum full of water if it is on a hard flat surface. Just tip it on its lower rim to the balance point and then roll it along. It takes a bit of practice and one has to be VERY careful to keep the drum under control.
Man just pay the $9 for the freeking tool or making something better than than! You're in a dire situation and you think I'm going to use screwdrivers?1 Only if I didn't have the tool maybe.
I just use a pair of large needle nose pliers. Open the pliers (reverse to usual usage) and slide the 2 noses into the slots in the bung and twist the handles. Seems to be much easier than keeping the 3 screwdrivers lined up because I only have 2 hands!
I can't have heater failure so it getting its own dedicated battery. It gets -20F here so no lithium batteries. I have a 150w solar panel I just need a charge controller then I can charge it with a 24 VDC 250w switching power supply. I'm almost building a power station just for the heater. It's not really for camping but for working but I have to camp where I work.
Sounds like an interesting setup you have!
How’s it set up in England battery only has 2 connection points live & negative so how could that be set up using electric and solar batty charging ? Thanks
@loony457 - although my battery has 4 terminals, there are only two poles; positive and negative. The smaller terminals are connected to the positive/negative respectively. I believe this is to facilitate adding solar or a trickle charger, like I did here. In my case, the trickle charger isn't raising the voltage that much over 12v, so I can run the heater at the same time it's charging (with a trickle charger or solar). If it did raise the voltage much higher than 13v or so, I would probably use a voltage regulator running off the battery to power the heater and provide a steady 12.something volts. I hope that helps.
@@TheGergeDIY I have 2 lead acid battery’s in joint parallel to start my heater but it stopped half way through basically say low voltage I can’t work it out I’ve seen many run on 12 volt battery’s so not sure why mine won’t start its new machine SUNSTAR
@@loony457 The initial power-up uses the most power. There will be a voltage drop if the batteries aren't up to snuff. I would test those batteries individually and see if one (or both) needs replacement.
Just bought two like this based on reviews I’ve seen. So, from this, I’m taken that the warning not to charge while running in the manual is nit an issue? Assuming they say that if you are charging at a very high rate in the battery and possibly overloading the electronics on the heater…?
The diesel heater manual says that? If that's the case, I'm guessing it says that to avoid an overvoltage situation. As you can see in this video, the voltage on my configuration doesn't rise much. So in my case, I don't see it being an issue. Do what you think it is right in your case though.
What size crush washer does the 9500 use?
I used "M14 Oil Drain Plug Gaskets Crush Washers Seals Rings" from Amazon on my DF Westinghouse.
Since this is a 5KW diesel heater. Could a 2KW diesel heater draw less amps starting?
I don't believe so. The 5kw "language" I believe is referring, somehow, to how much heat is generated, not electrical power consumption. The initial high power draw is due to the glow plug heating up, and generating heat with electricity is one of, if not the, worst consumer of electricity. So I'm pretty sure all of these heaters start the same way, and they all have a high draw of current when starting (and shutting down).
You my hero. In Western South Carolina and it will be awhile probably a week maybe more before we get power back. Alot of people hurting around here
I'm glad it helped you when you needed it! Please stay safe.
@@TheGergeDIY on a side note I wired my solar plug to a 12v cigarette lighter plug and used it that way
@@bamslife2812 - indeed: ruclips.net/video/FM75P510f14/видео.html :) I like running from the 5521 plug though, it seems like a more secure connection: ruclips.net/video/tWAMsNlwRVU/видео.html
@@TheGergeDIY definitely more secure. I will look into those once this mess is over
Sweet guitar but your singing needs some work. 😂
Ain't that the truth!
Your carburetor gets gummed up because ethanol in your gas does that. Use ethanol free gas and you won't have that problem . I ONLY use gas in my westinghouse 9500.
Yep, that's probably it. I just run propane; cheaper, cleaner, and no gum. Never had a drop of gas in my generator.
THIS /\ I run my riding mower and the gas snow blower I used to have only on ethanol free gas. I've never had an issue since I started doing this many years ago. Prior to that, I had to change the carb on my riding mower a couple of times. I now also use ethanol free fuel in my Westinghouse generator. It starts up with no issue related to gas problems.
It's hard to take anyone seriously when they're using a B&D drill.
Dang, I wish you would have told me 25 years ago before I bought it, and used it for 25 years without a problem.
Thank for the video it was very helpful...👍
Did you cut off the heaters battery ring connector to add the Anderson pole connector?
My heater's DC power cord had bare wire, no ring connectors, no nothing, just wire.
Thanks for the quick reply. I have bluetti eb3a. What connection would you recommend using. My hcalory 2kw heater came with ring battery terminal style connection. Thanks!
@@etid2010 In the description section above, there is a link to the DC 5.5mm x 2.1mm Power Male Plug Cable that I use and the anderson power pole connectors. I like both of those because they make for a solid connection.
Lol 1 crescent wrench works
Any idea why the manual says to drain oil before draining the fuel before storage? Manual says to drain oil before draining fuel to avoid damaging unit. But why?
@@livelovelearn360 I don’t know, but confirmed that it does say that. Weird.
That is weird. It shouldn’t matter which one gets drained first. The generator is off Lol. There’s no way it can get damaged just by doing drains, no matter which one you do first. Just my opinion 🤷♂️
Is there a torque spec. for the drain plug?
Not mentioned in the manual: cdn.westinghouseoutdoorpower.com/owners_manuals/WGen9500_manual_web.pdf - I just "tighten" it.
@@TheGergeDIY Yes I noticed that too. Same with me. Maybe like an automotive drain plug. Usually 15-20 FT.LBs.
Also get a marked container (old orange juice or something just over a quart for yours) with your exact amount of oil to use. Then it will always be easily filled no measuring.
@condor5635 - these are great tips! Thank you!
Cut a square out of your old 5 Quart jug. Works awesome for a drain pan. Low profile and a cap to drain. Also cut some holes and permanently tie wrap it to frame so shoot is always there to drain oil down channel and into aforementioned jug! No raising on blocks required
I'm using that too it's a cup of galon of antie spill
Have you ever had the positive clamp get hot? Enough that it melts the pastic on the clamp?
@@jasoneaston919 - never. I’d recommend getting a DC amp meter (I like the clamp-on ones) and testing how much current is being drawn. Max draw should be about 10a on startup and then dropping down considerably in the run cycle.
It would be helpful if you adjust your camera so that what you are doing in completely in the frame. Other than that, very helpful
@@michaelmarchman3462 agreed. I don’t have any more barrels or I’d reshoot the video. Glad the info was useful for you.
I never run it with propane. If I run it with gasoline and now want to run it with propane what should I do, Sir?
@SVO77489 - Please see page 18 of the manual: cdn.westinghouseoutdoorpower.com/owners_manuals/Westinghouse_WGen9500DF_manual_web.pdf for complete instructions. If it were me, I would figure out how to drain the gasoline into a gas container before switching. As I mentioned in the video, I've never run gas in mine. With my last generator (different brand), I ran gas, and wasn't so good about not leaving gas in it for long periods of time, resulting in a gummed up carburetor.
Do you know is there is a quick drain kit for this?. I will be having to do this myself and I need tubing.
Not sure if there is a specific one for this unit or a generic one will work. Please let me know if you find one.
Cool guitar! I want it! Thanks!
The same here! I cant tweak the tonenet or collection amps with Tonex One run the software as I did with the original one. I need a other interface audio to download and tweak new amps.
Love my full-sized ToneX pedal. Having the dedicated knobs is a must
Can also run on red diesel an kerosesne heating oil at 60pence per litre.....👍
Yeah, for sure! You might notice the fuel in this one is red. :)
Quick and to the point...Thanks, George
How did you manage to make it works without using the AC to DC converter? You lowered the heater to 2hz?
The speed/output of the heater doesn’t make a difference as to whether or not this works. The startup process is where the most current is drawn. In this case, it’s right on the edge for 10a for a brief moment, but my powerbank handles it. I’ve done it several times successfully.
@@TheGergeDIY I was asking this because you made a video using the AC port to run the diesel heater. I thought you couldn't make it running using the DC port (without tripping the fuse) and somehow found a trick to make it work. But if I understand correctly it could've worked using DC only from the beginning.
@@TheGergeDIY Another question, does it still work if the battery is at less than 50% when starting the heater? Because as the voltage is lower it may need more amps to output the 130~140w necessary for startup if I understand it correctly
@@teiva - yes, you're correct, I did have that issue. I'm not really sure what changed, it may have been a firmware update in the Bluetti EB3A? I am now able to run off the DC side of the Bluetti though, which is awesome 'cause it runs twice as long. I'm also not using the cigarette plug any long, rather one of the DC outlets just below it. It's much more secure.
@@teiva - it does, I've started it below 50%. I think mine is using almost 100w at it's max draw during startup. I do make sure to leave some left over for shutdown, which also draws hard on the battery, but not as long as during startup.
The ToneX One is very tempting at 180 bucks new but watching a bunch of videos on them I figured it was a niche use item so I went ahead with the big ToneX. Just got it this week been getting lost in all the stuff. Right now Amplitude 5 Max is only 99 bucks and if you bought your tonex and register it you get jam points and can take 15% off that so I went ahead and did that so after tax Amplitude 5 Max full verion was only 91 bucks.
I've been using the original Tonex for a year. I play live a few times a month. I have not had to do any deep edits at all live. Ever. I spent a few hours when I got it downloading amps. But I have not used the software for almost a year now. I found the 3 amps I like and I use only those 3.
