    Absolutely gorgeous. Super clean and classy. I have a question. I've made quite a few knives before but never a Puukko and looking to make one. My question is, I know they have a scandi but I've always wondered how they end up with such large bevels if it's a scandi, especially a flat scandi. If it's a convex scandi then I can understand a bit more. But from what I've read they tend to have scandis ground in at about 17 deg? Is that right? What angle did you grind yours in and how did you achieve those classic high bevels on a Puukko. I mean they usually tend to be on stock anywhere between 1/16" to 1/8" thickness so I'm just confused as to how they achieve those high grinds if they're really being ground in at 17 or 20 deg like I've read. Thanks.

      Funnily enough Most puukkos in practical use in scandinavia have micro bevels. Theyre just very thin behind the Edge

    • @MLCustomKnives
      @MLCustomKnives 7 дней назад

      Thank you! My puukkos are usually between 4,2mm and 4,8mm or 5/32" - 3/16" thick which is quite typical. But with the rhomboid cross section it tapers a fair bit to the tip. You're right about the bevel angle. The bevels are flat and ground to zero but then sharpened with a tiny micro bevel. This adds quite a lot of strenght to the edge. Puukkos are not very wide, mine are usually about 21mm or 13/16" wide, which helps the bevels to come closer to the spine and makes them look taller

    • @SweetTooth8989
      @SweetTooth8989 7 дней назад

    is the fly press a good machine for starting making damascus ? Or it's just better wait and save some money for an idraulic press ? Great work !!!

    • @MLCustomKnives
      @MLCustomKnives 13 дней назад

      I love my flypress, it's a very versatile tool and surprisingly efficient but it is quite hard work to make damascus with it. for smaller billets from time to time it's great but if you make bigger billets or damascus very often I'd highly recommend a hydraulic press or power hammer if you can afford it. But the flypress is unbeatable in quietness, fine control and reliability.
