How to play Walk Away solo by Dokken
A tutorial on how I play my version of Dokken's Walk Away solo. I've spent a good amount of time listening to the isolated guitar track to try and get this as close as I possibly could. I hope this helps you!

Walk Away Tribute Solo - Dokken
Просмотров 692День назад
My humble attempt at this incredible solo laid down by George Lynch on "Walk Away". A hidden gem released on their Beast From the East live album. Thanks to someone uploading the isolated solo, I was able to take a stab at transcribing that super quick phrase right before the solo kicks in that is inaudible on the album mix. I think I’m super close and have the right notes, but man, George’s id...

    How's the status of This guitar? Does it float? How about the contact noise. I am very interested in an update. Thank You Dex.

    • @dexdeimos425
      @dexdeimos425 День назад

      These bridges don’t really float well. It’s part of the way the hinge was designed (contact on the bridge post - it’s not designed like a knife edge). That’s why mine is set to dive only with stronger string tension on return and a tremol-no (same story for my white RS440). This makes it impossible to go out of pitch on return. Good guitars, quality built bridges, but if you’re looking for Floyd like accuracy, I haven’t had any luck with this in free float. They work perfectly the way I have them set though. This being said, Ibanez made a lot of tweaks to these bridges when they were in production before changing over to the edge trem (which does behave like a Floyd in all regards). There are slight variations on many components - some people may have had better luck floating theirs that differ to mine. Still, great guitar if you don’t mind the work around with dive only (it didn’t seem to bother Van Halen much!)!

    i own a blue one that i love. i bought it for the neck, and basically did a full upgrade. sd slash 2's, ratio tuners, sophia bridge, graphtec nut, cts and switchcraft, schaller strap locks. i have about $1300 in it, and i would put it up against any $4k guitar out there. a beautiful beast.

    This is killer man! Gonna learn this one for sure. George has such a crazy wide vibrato that along with like you said in the video the 500ms delay gets you nearly there. I wish George still played like this. I watched some recent stuff and thought wtf is he even going for 😂

    • @dexdeimos425
      @dexdeimos425 5 дней назад

      Thanks so much! 🙏 . Yes! The feel of this solo has me thinking he’s really more of an improv player. When I was picking this one apart, I could hear quite a few spots where takes seem to have been spliced in. It seems like he probably improv’d most of the solo and then they just stuck together the parts they liked. I’m not sure if this was always his approach though - I think this was the last hurrah before the band split, so it kinda makes sense. This being said, I would happily trade a leg for improv like this 😆🤦‍♂️. When I saw him a few years back, he played some of the “bigger” parts of his iconic solos and improv’d the rest around those spots. He never seems to play anything note for note twice live. Kind of reminds me of the way blues guys approach live soloing. Still killer though! 👌🎸😂

    Heh... that Gotoh you recommend? It's got a ZINC baseplate! Oh yes it does! Where's you get $125, no locking nut? Here we are, about a year later, it's on the website at $100... buy some extra string blocks (just in case) and shipping will be FREE.

    • @dexdeimos425
      @dexdeimos425 5 дней назад

      Hi Michael. I’m Canadian. I typically refer to dollars in my native CAD currency. Believe it or not the FRS is now about $150 CAD in my market, without a lock nut and the GOTOH 1996Ts are much closer to $200 CAD since I uploaded this video. Generally, we pay a bit more for items like this North of the border. I’m not too sure where you read that the baseplates on the GOTOH 1996T were zinc? Every piece of published literature I’ve found on them has stated they’re hardened steel. Here’s a link to a reputable US retailer with the baseplate material listed: www.philadelphialuthiertools.com/bridge-and-tailpieces/tremolos/gotoh-ge-1996t-licensed-floyd-rose-locking-tremolo-bridge-gold/ Thanks for watching! 🙏🎸

    Great video! I bought 2 tracers brand new in the late 80's. I assure you they never got me an ounce of respect on stage or from any of my friends. The thinking at the time was Peavey's use of computerized milling machines was somehow cheating, and the older T series guitars were just ugly, so they must be junk. I could only afford bargains and I loved the crazy thin neck, which was unlike anything else on the market. My first was a Tracer Deluxe and it was a dream to play. The pickups sounded good, although the output was weak. The second hung in a shop for over a year until it went on sale and I grabbed it - a beautiful Custom 89 with bowling ball finish and reverse headstock. The pickups sounded bad and I nearly doubled the price of the guitar replacing them right away. I still have it and, apart from the cheap electronics, it's a well-made, great playing guitar.

    Do you think the truss road on one of these older Ibanez guitars could handle modern Nu-Metal tuning, like 68 gauge low string tuned to A Standard? I like to keep the neck relatively straight/flat via the truss rod, so am a bit apprehensive about buying one

    Nice review. I’m thinking about getting one myself. It seems very similar to the Kramer guitars like Richie sambora played on….would you say they are very identical in the way they play and sound? I wasn’t sure how this was going to sound overall but the ending was the icing on the cake. This guitar sounds bad ass and like a great shred guitar. Just curious what is the asking price usually for these models?

    • @dexdeimos425
      @dexdeimos425 26 дней назад

      Thanks!🙏 They’re quite good shred machines. The quality of their builds is on par with most of the other brands from that era - I’d say they’re quite similar to my Japanese made Kramers, albeit the necks are much thinner. Pricing on these varies wildly depending on your market and where you live. Condition depending, I’ve heard of them being found for as little as $100 USD. I picked up a non-functional one in need of repairs a few months ago for $300 CAD. Kahler Spyder parts can be tricky to source which likely factors into the lower perceived value on these guitars. Again, pricing on these is all over the place. Very clean versions like this one seem to be hovering around $600 - $1000+ CAD as I’m writing this. There is definitely a rise in value on these that I’ve noticed over the last 10 years. Good luck! 🎸🍻

    I own 2 of these. A NOS and a beat to death one. The bi-laminate neck is a peavey staple and all peaveys from the era had them. It prevents neck twist or is supposed to and and works pretty well. I've owned probably 40 peaveys from 1983-93 and never had a bad neck. Awesome video!

      I very much agree my friend! My first two guitars ever were Yamaha - I keep thinking how lucky I was to start with this company. Quality products all the way through their line. I wish they would focus some more on shreddy electric guitars like they used to. Here’s hoping for 2025 - happy new year! 🥳🎸🍻

    I’m divided on keeping my freeway Floyd 2003 or trading for a Kramer striker 211 w Floyd rose and Seymour Duncan pickups. Tough call.

      I have a modern Striker. I love the feel of the neck on it, but the weak points are the pickups and the trem. If the one you’re looking at has Duncans that does make it a super close call. Good luck either way! 🎸🍻

      @ man that was a quick response thank you. Appreciate it. I really love the freeway and everything send the video is right. It’s so underrated. I’m just worried that I end up trading it and then down the road the freeway becomes something legendary. I’m sure that won’t happen but how would you compare the build quality between the two guitars? I agree with what you said the striker has an incredible neck. It’s one of the best necks I’ve ever ever felt.

    • @dexdeimos425
      @dexdeimos425 Месяц назад

      @ for build quality I would easily say Godin is superior to pretty much all new Kramers with the exception of the new Japanese Baretta (I’ve yet to play one though). Quality made Canadian (sometimes USA depending on year) guitars with excellent wood and quality components. By contrast I think almost all new Kramers are from the Epiphone facilities in China and Indonesia. They’re still making great guitars but this will possibly impact resale. The cost for manufacturing overseas is much lower. Small differences we as consumers won’t really notice (if QC is good) though as so much of big commercial guitar making these days is automated. Either way you’ll have a great axe to play! 🎸🍻

    • @dexdeimos425
      @dexdeimos425 Месяц назад

      Maybe like a 5 or six at very best. It’s very “meh” after a lot of upgrades and work. At least it’s playable, but not without a LOT of love. This one is probably better suited as a wall hanger for most people. Mine is playable but the neck is ridiculously uncomfortable. Definitely not something I reach for ahead of any of my other guitars.
