You can't basically do service on your own because even if you change oil you not gonna be able to reset that service blinking icon on the bike. Generally the break in oil is thicker than regular oil to let things bed in. After the oil change in the first service to the regular weight oil you'll have less drag on components allowing it to rev a bit quicker and gain a few horsepower.

    • @motomaverickusa
      @motomaverickusa 3 месяца назад

      Makes sense, but I wouldn’t think that oil viscosity would play a huge role in horsepower gains; I’ve done several break-ins, rebuilt some motors, etc. and haven’t noticed it like that before. I guess I was hoping there was some big reflash that tuned the delay out of the motor. Sadly, that didn’t happen.

I am going to use it primarily in the city with weekly trips for 40-100 km on highways. What would you pick under these conditions? Will I be able to have a passenger for these trips? I'm 5'10 and 190 lbs

    • @motomaverickusa
      @motomaverickusa 4 месяца назад

      Both bikes will be very fun around town and can do highways well; I’ve enjoyed my Trident for that very purpose. As for carrying a passenger, I can’t speak to that for either motorcycle. My wife has ridden my Tiger 800 with me, though, we were both comfortable and the bike did great. The 660 motors have a little less power, but are also much lighter. I would assume the bike could handle it, as long as your passenger is comfortable on the pillion; there’s not much seat there. I would definitely suggest getting the both of you to sit on it and see how it feels.

    • @thecyberhusky
      @thecyberhusky 4 месяца назад

      @@motomaverickusa thank you very much for the response! The one more thing I'd love to get to know - have you used any windshield on your Trident? I also heard that some people complained about heat waves coming from the motor while riding Trident making it much less comfortable - have you ever experienced that?

    • @motomaverickusa
      @motomaverickusa 4 месяца назад

      I have not noticed much with the heat coming off of it, at least not more than any other bike I’ve ridden. As for the windshield, I bought Trident specifically because it doesn’t have a windshield; I wanted a true naked bike. I still have my Tiger 800, which does have a big windshield on it, and I use that bike for any longer distance trips I’ll be riding. The windshield does make a difference in the comfortability of the ride, especially when the wind and other atmospheric conditions can impact the rider.

    I have a 2008 Tiger 1050, brilliant bike but getting a bit old - its used as a daily and for touring and I have a R7 for a bit of fun - more for full leather suit mountain carving and intermediate level track use. I am considering replacing the Tiger 1050 with the much lighter Tiger 660... But this Daytona could be consideration as well if I can get some decent side bags on it (I am used to sport bike ergos). I wonder if the power tweeks on this Daytona will trickle down to the Tiger and Trident. Thanks for sharing this, enjoyed it.

    • @motomaverickusa
      @motomaverickusa 4 месяца назад

      Thanks for watching; I also have a 2015 Tiger 800 XRx that I have done some longer rides on. I haven’t compared it to the new 660, but I imagine the heavier “adventure” setup, especially when you add panniers/bags, would be noticeable on the smaller motor. I just had a tail bag on my Trident for this trip to Austin but I still had a blast, though. I would like to see the power changes trickle down, but I don’t see them doing that; they are definitely trying to hit a price point with the 660 lineup.

    • @motomaverickusa
      @motomaverickusa 4 месяца назад

      I think the key phrase there is “for a twin”. They added harmonic balancers to smooth it out, so I’m sure it’s way better than other offerings. Comparatively speaking, the triple is smoother, but that motor is known for that. You compare this twin to a single, and I’m sure the twin would be much smoother. I think it all depends on what you’re looking for out of your motor; the twin is going to be torque-focused over top end speed.

      I didn’t change any settings on the bike, so I imagine everything was “on” and it was in road mode; it was a quick dealer ride at the track and they told us not to mess with any of that stuff. It might have been because I had just immediately gotten off the Daytona, so I couldn’t help but make a comparison, but I was expecting a little more torque in the lower revs. I didn’t really feel the power kick on until around 4k rpm. The reason why it’s weird,from second to third is because you can use the quick shifter. Its best to use clutch in first. Second ext use left foot and shift. And you dont have to roll of the throttle. Just click the shifter. Ive had mine since February,2024.

    • @motomaverickusa

Even though the throttle was on, there was no power, then it just all the sudden surged forward; it was like the clutch got stuck and then popped. Is that what you’re talking about? I didn’t realize there was a quick shifter as standard on it, so that might be part of the issue. I hadn’t experienced anything like that before. Maybe I’m just misremembering the whole thing. 😂

    Interesting review. With respect I think maybe you're just not used to twins & more specifically parallel twins with 270 degree cranks? It can feel like you're abusing the engine & it's somewhat reluctant but that's because of the big pistons & the inertia etc. You have to embrace the vibes & use the low down & midrange grunt. Twins have a lot of engine breaking & this engine feels more like a V-twin than any other parallel twin I've come across before. It's also a very smooth one for what it is but above 8k it's not worth bothering as no hit in the power band, just more noise & vibes. QS is clunky & not the best but it does loosen up & you need to be firm & positive with it. The Daytona 660 engine is more powerful, more interesting & definitely smoother. However, I wouldn't say it pulls harder at low to mid revs but at higher rpm the 660 really takes off & is miles better. I personally love twins but totally get why you wouldn't if you have a triple as they're very different & can feel agricultural. I personally love the character of twins for road riding & you can just surf the torque with minimal gear box use. Although as you say, no right or wrong, just a matter of taste, preference & opinion.

    • @motomaverickusa
      @motomaverickusa 4 месяца назад

      You’re probably right; since I don’t have much experience with the parallel twins, I did some pulls at various rev ranges to try to figure out where it wanted to be; I found the best acceleration was starting at about 4k RPM up to about 7k. Some of the lower end pulls had a bogged down feeling and just didn’t want to “go”. I feel like the triple motors can pretty much pull anywhere in the rev range, so maybe that’s just what I’m used to. I’m looking forward to riding more parallel twins, as there are a LOT offered by various brands. Hopefully I can learn more about the motor with a larger sample size, but also talk to someone who rides one daily to figure out where it’s happy. I’m enjoying riding different bikes and learning something every ride, so I appreciate your thoughts! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment.

    • @ragerider6283
      @ragerider6283 4 месяца назад

      @@motomaverickusa No worries. You're right about the revs on the 8R, it's sweet spot is between 3-4 & 7-8. There's also a mis-conception with the twins that because they're torquey that they pull well in high gears from low revs, they don't. They labour, clatter, chug & protest due to the big pistons so you want to be in a mid gear for a good pull ideally. I'd say from 30mph - 40mph, 3rd or 4th gear is good so you're not changing up too soon & shifting by 8k. As for triples, I do like them & need to spend more time getting to know them as never owned one. I didn't used to be too interested in them tbh but I've more recently seen the light! The Triumph 765cc & Yamaha 889cc engines are amongst the best out there currently imo.

    I'm a total noob as far as riding goes since I've only been riding for two seasons so far. But I have done a lot of research on various bikes and brands in search for a potential future upgrade to replace my current small displacement bike. From what I gathered these Royal Enfield's are kind of like a Harley Davidson in a sense that they're made to be large displacement low horse power for reliability reasons. Because the more power an engine is tuned to make the more your reliability starts to go down and it then starts needing more frequent maintenance. Another bike that I also did research on in the process that is also built to be large displacement low power was the Moto Guzzi V7 Stone. Except it is not a parallel-twin like the RE, it is a 90degree V-Twin that is ran sideways instead of inline with the frame like a Harley. One of the V7 Stones quirks that you learn to deal with is that it has slight torque steer to the right when accelerating. But once you're in motion it's no longer a problem.

      Yea, I can see what you’re getting at. Compression ratio would also be a good figure to look at, as it has to do with combustion temperatures, with that line of thinking. I think another consideration would be just the general quality of parts they are using. Cheap parts to bring the sticker price down can make your maintenance and repair bills go up. I watched another fellows videos just today about this 450NK and he said he was able to get it up to 105mph on the interstate without issue. But he said the cruising speed it likes to stay at the most is around the 80-90mph limit which it does just fine. Someone else in his comments section also said CF-Moto is also in the process of supposedly releasing a 450 Ibex here to the US at some point in the future. The price he gave for it was a starting price of $6,500. My friend and I only started riding a couple of seasons ago and we love it. But we've out grown the simple 250's we started off with because they're just not powerful enough to get away from bad drivers. Everyone around here has the habit of riding your ass too closely and you can't get away because your power is already used up for trying to meet the speed limit. Add in countless hills to climb with a cross-breeze added in to an other wise sunny dad and you're done. So something like this 450 would be a good future replacement. It falls into the "just powerful enough" category. As far as reliability goes I'd suggest watching some riders from Europe and the UK. All of these CF-Moto bikes are all released over there first under a different name and then are eventually released here in the states under a different name to suit the US market. The 800 Ibex is known as the 800 MT over in Europe & UK.
