Architecture + History 🏛 in Berlin's Humboldt Forum
Construction of the Humboldt Forum in the center of Berlin was completed last year. It is the latest in a series of buildings that have stood on this site, each with a very different function. The layers of history can be traced back nearly 1000 years!
Let’s look at some fragments of these earlier buildings to discover the variety of lively activities that went on here across the centuries.

Feeling conflicted about🤮the Disgusting Food Museum Berlin
Просмотров 5122 года назад
I'm feeling conflicted about the Disgusting Food Museum in Berlin. On the one hand, I think museums are (and should be) places to expand our horizons and build tolerance - not to judge, as the word "disgusting" does. BUT the online reviews show that people love this place! They learn about other cultures, have fun, meet friendly personnel and get to experience a tasting.🦗 This is great stuff! S...
Mummies: 5 things you didn't know!

Mummies are displayed in museums around the world. Everyone loves mummies!😺 But often they are displayed without really being explained. Here are 5 things about mummies that I bet you didn't know! 0:27 “Mummy” can mean different things. 1:08 Mummies were made of a lot more than just a corpse and the wrappings. 1:48 Mummies were fashion victims. 2:38 Not only pharaohs were made into mummies. 3:4...
Who is Mithras? Mystery cult hero and 3D model

What do ancient Romans and pinchy pinchy scorpions have in common? MITHRAS, the god of an astoundingly popular mystery cult 2000 years ago. This relief in Berlin's Neues Museum shows Mithras as a god of blood sacrifice and eternal life. Rather like the Christian god who was growing popular at the exact same time. Modicolitor made this fabulous 3D model of the Mithras relief so you can explore i...

Thank you so much for the review! I’m definitely planning to check this out now. I’m a huge fan of anything related to Ishtar. The other two great books that express Ishtar’s lore are Sex God: Uriel and Ishtar’s Blade. I’m hoping Ishtar: Gate of Babylon will complete the top picks! 😃

What is Hermaphrodite holding in her hand?

  • @fredfarmer5952

I'm trying to write a myth based on the Fool's Journey. Aphrodite, Hermes, and Hermaphrodite are at play in characters and their subconscious. For some reason, despite Jung's Anamus / Anima, it feels like so much has been left out about the "Third Gender" in humanity's psyche. I can't accept that a story that bridges myth, psychology, genetics, anthropology and more... is only about... "laughter." (That connotes an embarrassed culture that is ashamed of its inner life.) And since the gods-goddesses were so important (... Aphrodite and Hermes..), obviously there's a lot more to the story that our current world.... predominantly locked in a duality of how it views the world. So why is it in the human consciousness?

Nefertiti's bust is an obvious forgery. Facial traits are caucasian, those lips are the main give-away. That thing is not 3000 years old in the sand, rain, wind, motion. Damege is fake: selective. The archeologist who owned it was ashamed of it confused with "authentic" when royals visited the site and kept it afterwards as a room ornement for 13 years. They needed funding for excavations. It is a modern artesan lab work, made in Egypt with traditional technique and site material. Germany should be ashamed of keeping it in a museum

Yes, isn't it? Many of the bricks were made in the 20th century as part of the restoration, but the animals are all original pieces, and the blue directly around them is original. If you look closely, you can see that the original blue is a bit more faded than the new blue. 🤓

@@johnw7565 That's a great list so far! You hit some highlights already. If you're looking for more modern German history, definitely try the Museum der Dinge in Oranienstraße - they have tons of everyday items from the last 175 years in Germany, offering a unique peek into daily life. I like how personal all the objects are (hairdryer, ...). And the museum has a new app! I haven't tried it yet, but I'm optimistic that it will tell some good stories about the objects.😀
