Definitely my favourite colour!❤
It is a wonderful color indeed! ♥
Wow sundayberries, another great video! It’s amazing how stunning things look once the masking tape comes off! It’s refreshing seeing things go wrong! ❤
Hi @janwoodyer735 I know! Things like this happen more often than not! And it's quite fun to share it to show what the thinking/analizing process looks like as it happens! And while the end result may not be what we envisioned, it's well worth the process! And well, it's all part of the journey and fun of it all! Thanks for your support and so happy you enjoyed the video! ♥♥♥
I love this painting! Keeping it fairly simple really helps us beginners, it seems achievable 🤞 Can’t wait to try it. Thank you for sharing ❤
I am so glad that you enjoyed this one, particularly the simplicity of it because that is exactly what I loved the most on this one. No shame on keeping it simple! I am a strong believer of less is more! Keep me up to date on how this one goes for you! ♥♥♥
Thank you for this wonderful demonstration! I’ve literally just ordered this book so it was lovely to watch the process before I attempt my own. You made it seem really do-able. ❤
Glad it was helpful! You will find this book to be quite easy to follow and everything is really great and do-able! I am sure you will have a lot of fun with it! Keep me posted! ♥
Memories …..throwback moment 😮

Hi @karenirving7088 Thank you so much! ♥
Hola Sundayberries! You're flying lately with these marvellous videos that go into areas less explored by other channels.
Hi, Mark! Thanks! hah hah! I've been having some fun here, while learning some myself! Totally enjoying this ride. Hugs! ♥♥♥
I love doing these paintings. I love your work. It’s lovely 🎨💕
Thank you so much 😀 ♥
Hi Sundayberries, I think it turned out pretty good. I’m glad to hear that you weren’t too badly affected by the storm. Dee
Thank you so much, Dee. Yeah, we were fine, although we did get some of it. ♥
did you ever get to do a mix video with this Holbein Set?
I haven't done it in camera. I am planning to do mixing sessions for all my palettes. ♥
Thank you for sharing this video! I think this is really helpful for anyone going through a difficult phase in their life. I personally never thought that I would find joy in watercolor painting, but I have. I find it quite relaxing and it really takes my mind away from all the “noise” and stress of my daily routine. Right now, only have time on the weekends with my busy schedule. I hope over time to keep getting better at it. I really hope others find this video as helpful as it has been for me Thank you for sharing ❤
I am so happy to hear that you are enjoying watercolors. Sometimes, trying out different things that you might never thought you'd like can actually surprise you! ♥
I love your channel! Schmincke colors are quite beautiful
Thank you so much! Schmicke watercolors are amazing indeed! ♥
Love the sketchbook idea - you must share how to make it 😊
Thank you for the feedback! I will make sure to make one! ♥ Happy to hear you liked it! ♥♥♥
I have both … DS & Schmincke. They’re both good. Outside the EU, Schmincke is gonna be costly; import/export taxes are the culprit. Same goes with say, M Graham … very expensive in the EU. DS, I think it’s immensely popular because of the amount of premade color range youngsters want. (Like weird purples and such. Imaginative colors.) I do love the Primateks and Brown Oxide …. That’s pretty much it. Anywho, I have the Ultimate Mix set to which I added the basic 12 set to fill the empty pallet slots. Also have the Urban super granulating set. I really like the paints, (other than the lack of a Burnt Sienna). Very pigmented, vivid, not fussy, and look great on my worst paper. Also, no need to spray them prior to use. (At least where I live.) A wet brush & a swipe will bring the paint. Watch out for the yellows in particular if you’re a paint ’digger’. The yellows love a wet brush. & will jump on your brush, you don’t have to dig into them. If you pre spray the paints, then dig into the yellows, you’ll have a ton of yellow paint on your brush. You don’t need to dig a hole into any of these paints … a swipe will bring the pigment.
Hello @ladyhollman9534 I agree with you 100% here. Both Daniel Smith and Schmincke are at the top of my favorites and truly believe that in Europe Schmincke is the top brand due to accessibility and cost, while on this side of the pond Daniel Smith tops as the best, also for the same reason and, as you mentioned, the grand range of colors they offer. I have been growing my collection of both Daniel Smith and Schmincke, although I must admit that my Daniel Smith collection is much greater. I too love Primateks, and I also love some of the super-granulating colors by Schmincke, which I have a few sets already. However, some of the colors in this super-granulation range do no attract me as much as others in the same collection. With so many colors to opt in Daniel Smith, I fear people will forget how to truly mix. I understand that convenience colors are a must, because otherwise you would go through colors quite fast, depending on how much or how complex the paintings are in the first place. I am loving my exploration on colors in this medium. As I come from acrylics and I have always kept such a limited palette, I am used to the mixing area and love doing it. Exploring colors, to me, is an addiction. So these watercolors are perfect for this as they are mostly organic pigments and you feel their liveliness as you work with them and subsequently, the end result as well. In contrast, acrylics can be absolutely breathtaking but, in the end, their nature feels a lot less "natural" if you know what I mean with this. But, I must admit that as much as I love watercolors, my love for acrylics tops it... perhaps because I have been working with them for over two decades. I know you what you mean about the yellows! I had to learn that the hard way! A little bit can go far! Loved so much reading your comment as it gave me a lot to think about, particularly about the imaginative colors. I think that all these different colors do work with certain types of styles, so I think it's wonderful they cater to that as well. And about DS looking great in almost any paper, omg, this is so true! There is something about Daniel Smith paints though, it's a quality that they do have that I have not seen in any other yet. I am not sure if it's just me, but these colors are so perfectly clean, clear and translucid (of course opaque are opaques) but even those can be so beautiful in washes. I might be wrong as to my assessment because I am a bit biased. I can appreciate the beauty in most brands, but I must admit DS ranks at the top closely followed by Schmincke. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and tips! I love getting tips and I will follow the ones you adviced with yellows! ♥♥♥
Love my quin golds!
I know! I cannot believe we won't have a true quin gold any longer! :-(
Beautiful blue! One of my favorites!
It really is! It has blown my mind since I first got it a year ago! ♥
Your swatches are so “neat”, mine are a mess in general. 😂
Usually the less neat are the best. Mine were neat because I was using the new handmade book LOL! Although in general, I try to make them neat.... I suppose I have ocd in some sort of way... hummm... who knows!
@@sundayberries 😂❤️
:-D
Hi there! ❤
Hello! ♥
Hi Sundayberries, the inks are lovely. I’ve never used them so I must give them a try. Dee
Please do! They are rather a different experience but whatever you do with them is permanent, which is always nice! I hope you like them! Plus, you can always use a dip pen with them as well and have fun journaling! ♥
I went through this and it felt difficult to adapt but it also helped me greatly to find myself again and enjoy the little things as the bigger things and enjoy again life itself! So grateful for your channel! Many blessings for you and your love ones!❤
Thanks for sharing!! I wish the same for you♥♥♥
Another great video! Thank you
Thank you so much, Paula! So happy you enjoyed it! ♥
Great video. I look forward to more like these. When you are a beginner like me it isn't always as easy as it looks. Watching others gives me courage to go for it.
Thank you so much for your feedback, Paula! I appreciate knowing that people enjoy these type of video so I can make them more often. Thank you so much for your support! ♥
Wow! That’s a very nice present for your sister! She’s going to have so much fun with all of them! Many blessings for you and family Sundayberries! ❤
Thank you so much 🤗 And to yours! ♥
Excellent choices from an excellent sister.
Hi @TeddyBongo-zf1ih !! Thank you so much 😊 I really appreciate your feedback! ♥
This is a really nice starter kit. ☺️💕🎨
Thank you! 🤗 I appreciate the feedback!!!♥️❤️♥️
When our children were grown. We began to host exchange students from around the world. They were in 11th grade. We did this for 12 years and it was so much fun!!!
That was such a great thing to do! I bet the experience was amazing! ♥♥♥
What a cute little sketchbook!!! ❤❤❤
It was so much fun! Super cute!
The lightfastnes doesn't mean all too much. Sorry 🙇♂🙇♂🙇♂ Using aquarelle paper, choosing a high quality brand colour, protecting the painting with a UV glaze and keeping the painting in doors will have your 1 star yellows outlast more than 1 human lifetime, often even outlasting multiple human lifetimes. The lightfastnes doesn't even say all too much about direct sunlight exposure either. It all depends on the UV intensity, the angle and obviously the duration amongst other things. Now I wouldn't paint my garden fence with 1 star lightfast yellow aquarell colours. And I wouldn't hang my paintings on the outside of my house walls. 1 star yellow no name cheap paint may last way longer in a garden in northern Norway than in the heart of the western Sahara. And on a final tangent thought, what kind of an ego must I have to assume my dable should last an eternity? 🙈
Hi! I get you with the lightfast rating, particularly in the comparison between Norway and Sahara. I believe the lightfast rating is actually under certain conditions that does not include hanging the painting or placing it in direct sunlight. Based on this assumption, then we can say that with a 1 star lightfastness, you should either not use it, or have in a dark drawer. These are natural watercolors, and they will therefore have doubtfull lightfastness simply because materials are natural. Watercolors are a delicate medium, and in terms of lightfastness, well, that even can be placed in question if the painter uses tons of water, or diluting too much, that will break any bonding agent that keeps pigment together and that will undoubtedly mean that the painting will fade a lot faster than anything else and whatever lightfast rating it had will not matter much. It will fade away. Thanks for your point of view!! ♥
Hi! I was thinking of you yesterday! ❤
Hello! ♥♥♥
Hi Sundayberries, that’s the perfect starters kit and has everything she’ll need to get going. You’re very kind and generous and I’m sure she’ll love it. Dee
Hi Dee! Thank you! I am so excited about it and so hope she likes it! She will get it tomorrow so I am hoping it will bring her tons of joy! I did sent her another two items directly from Amazon, a ceramic palette so she can mix in it, and two Mason Jars like mine for water to rinse her brushes! That is also arriving tomorrow so she will get it all together. Thank you for your feedback, Dee. I so appreciate it! ♥♥♥
Hola Sundayberries! I have an accordion watercolour sketchbook like that. It's the same brand, but a larger size. I bought it three years ago to do some sketch paintings from holiday photos. I still haven't started it yet 🤦♂️. I love the way you've used this mini accordion book to produce wonderfully colourful shapes and patterns. Empty nest phase is not so common here in Spain, as many children end up living with their parents well into their 30s and 40s. This is mainly due to lack of affordable housing and the job market. So here it's more a case of "they can't fly from the nest". Obviously, many young people do, or they emigrate to countries with better employment opportunities. Often parents don't have an alternative interest outside of the family unit, so the vacuum created by children leaving home can be difficult to fill at first. Your suggestions on how best to deal with that situation is very positive and inspiring.
Hola Mark! ♥ Que gusto verte por aca! I do have the other sizes of this same concertina book! Maybe we could challenge each other and do a project together! That would be fun! Thanks for the support, as always, so very much appreciated. I have missed you around and was going to send an email to check on your tomorrow, as a matter of fact! So it's good to hear from you and your input is always so helpful. I think that this phase is quite pronounced in families where the children leave to study abroad or in different states, where coming back home as often is not possible. I have seen it happen a lot among Americans because, although leaving the nest is indeed encouraged, when the kids leave they really do find themselves missing them a lot. This is quite pronounced as well in stay at home mothers or fathers. Their lives are intricately mingled with the children that when the separation happens, it is quite difficult. In Puerto Rico, like in Spain, most kids stay home since the island is small and universities are usually close to home, so no need to leave the nest, but some do go off abroad and then some parents experience it. I can see why too. Here in the states, while encouraged to leave the home, some parents can be too attached and have devoted their lives to the kids, so when they leave they fall into depression and I am seeing this more and more around me. And well with my sister now, of course I was going to be concerned and made me think of others. I am unsure how this video will reach these people, but hopefully, if in some measure, it can be of help to someone, then it's purpose has been achieved. This is the same as in any type of loss, in my opinion, not necessarily with kids. I can happen when we loss someone important that we have been caring for and suddenly that is no longer there. It applies to many situations. I miss you so much Mark! So glad you are well. Let me know if we should do this challenge! Perhaps we can do it as a group thing to include Dee! ♥♥♥
Hi Sundayberries it’s very thoughtful of you to think about your sister and how she’s feeling. I too have recently become an empty nester but in a different way. I left my husband of 45 years a couple of months ago. I won’t bore you with the details but”wine, women and song” just about covers it. I am now living alone and I have to say that I’m enjoying it, I paint when I want, eat when I want and although I’m still having quite a bit of anxiety, I’m doing ok. I have to say that I feel sad that this has happened but I know that moving out was for the best. I have my son and grandchildren and that is enough for me at the moment. Dee
Dear Dee, I am so sorry to hear about your separation, this is such a difficult step to take and such a huge life change. I have never been married but I have had relationships fail, and while not 45 year long relationships, what and how we feel is probably quite close. I am sending you a big hug, and let you know that I admire your courage at this time. It does take a lot of to make a decision to dissolve something that, while no longer good for us, is what we have known for so long. But, I am so glad that you are feeling better and enjoying your personal space and time. I am glad that you are surrounding yourself with the healing energy of art. I am one who feels a lot of anxiety and in your case, I think that will be part of you for a while, but we can overcome this as well. The most difficult part is done, and while some emotions might be conflicting, for example, feeling happy with your new surroundings and your new space, but at the same time sad because of the loss of the relationship, especially one that was so long. But this is something that as we move forward, we actually overcome too. If you ever need to talk, drop me an email. much love your way, Dee. ♥♥♥
Thanks for sharing. I enjoy your videos. I understand the nervous feeling about recording oneself. Blessings. I love the new tin without the metal clips.
Thank you so much, @renmuffet ! I so appreciate your comments and support. Yes, filming can be quite nerve racking! To be honest, the camera and mic are turned on and I even forget how to pronounce words! It is quite an unbelievable thing of the human psyche! That is why there are so many cuts throughout my videos! I am so very grateful that most of you do not mind that so much and that is quite the relieve to know as well. Perhaps, this is the kind of reassurance that is needed to start letting go of this kind of "stage freight"! I love the new tins without metal clips, they seem so easy and well, safe! These were not expensive at all, I got like 12 in one size and another 12 in a smaller size, and I think I will slowly be merging to those. The only drawback is the mixing space, since they are gray. However, I usually use porcelain or ceramic plates to work, which I find much better than the tin. But at the same time, having the tin to mix helps a lot to keep your colors (warms and cools) in separate areas and I think over time, the colors become richer as they continue to mix with older colors left behind. But yes, these are quite good, at least they serve the purpose I got them for. ♥♥♥ Thanks again for your support and I am so happy you enjoy the videos! ♥
Hi Sundayberries, I’m sorry to hear that you haven’t been well and I hope you’re getting better. You don’t have to be nervous about talking on the videos as you sound great. I know I would sound horrendous 😅. Some lovely colours there, I think the sticks are great because of the ways they can be used, I must try some. I ordered a couple of pots of Brusho and am waiting for them to arrive, I thought they would be good for filling in blank areas of foliage. They look very messy to use but I’ll put up with it if I like the results. Look forward to your next video. Dee
Hi Dee! ♥ I can't help feeling nervous! I heard another youtuber saying, wow, it's not a myth to be nervous talking to a microphone! hahaha I laughed so hard because I truly get nervous to the point I usually have shaky voice and hands in the videos! I laugh about it after, but the moment I sit to film, omg! It's been a year now, and while I am not doing overly many videos, I am not doing very few videos either, so I should be used to this by now. Many years ago, I was good at public speaking, then puff! That disappeared, forever it seems! But I keep my hopes up about that part! Hopefully soon I will start feeling more at ease. I think you will really enjoy the sticks, I have to use them more but, I can tell I will have a lot of fun with them. What is Brusho!! I just took a look and I had never heard of these! Watercolor Ink powder! Wooo, sounds exciting! Do tell me more about that! If they are ink, it's best to be careful tho! Do give me an update on them and how they worked out for you! ♥♥ Thank you, Dee. For everything and for always being so supportive! ♥♥♥ Happy Painting! ♥♥♥♥
Absolutely love this video! Sometimes we think we are the only ones going through setbacks…. But love the fact that knowing you know a lot about colors, you humbly spoke about your own setbacks. This is all our journey in life too, not only on colors and pigments etc. Is staying open mind, see it with another perspective… outside the four corners of the box, do not quit! Keep on your journey. Be patient with yourself knowing our life path is all about the good and bad. Embrace it proudly and keep learning and moving on forward!❤❤❤ Many blessings for you and your love ones!
Thank you and so glad you enjoyed this video. ♥♥♥
hi there! Wondering what the difference is between burnt Sienna Daniel Smith and burnt Sienna light ! thanks!
@vintagebeautyca Hi! There is a slight difference between the two. Not much though. The light version is of course lighter, also non-granulating, and perhaps a bit more transparent, while Burnt Sienna is a darker tone and granulating. Burnt Sienna leans to an reddish-orange (orangy-Brown? haha), while Burnt Sienna Light leans more to red (reddish brown). They are both, earth tones, but I think the biggest difference is in the color tone and the granulation. I personally prefer Burnt Sienna, but Burnt Sienna Light is quite breathtaking nonetheless! ♥
Moody yet charming 😊.
Thank you so much! ♥
Hello! I think PY216 is not a historical colour. I’m not sure why Schmincke and W&N called their PY216 Turner’s Yellow, but I am assuming that the hue of PY216 is similar to the original PY216.
This is what CAMEO has to say about Turner’s Yellow: “A strong yellow pigment also known as patent yellow or lead oxychloride (PbCl2.5-7PbO). Turner's yellow was discovered in 1770 by Scheele, but it was not patented till the early 19th century by J. Turner in England. Turner's yellow was made by mixing powdered lead chloride with lead carbonate then fusing. This yellow pigment was used for a short time in oil paints, but its sensitivity to light and Sulfur fumes limited its use and it was replaced by Chrome yellow pigments.” Lead oxychloride is PY30, according to artiscreation.
Hello and nice to meet you! You are absolutely correct! This is what I found: Turner's Yellow (PY216) is considered "historical" because it replicates the color of a historical pigment, but PY216 itself is a modern pigment, not a historical one. The historical reference comes from its role as a safer, modern alternative to the older, toxic Turner’s Yellow used in the past. The original color had significant issues, including toxicity due to its lead content. ♥♥♥

Hi everyone 👋🏼. Has anyone tried adding ox gall or synthetic ox gall with these paints?
Hi!! I have not tried this, but it sounds like something to experiment with! I have been experimenting with these colors, quite a lot and planing to share my findings soon! But, I haven't tried ox gall. ♥♥
@@sundayberries Thanks! Best of luck with your experiments 😃.
@@awatercolourist Thank you!
