Mrs. Papaw and I are headed back in a few weeks for a short 5 day trip.

None are close, Grand Coba guests ride trollers to the beach. Buildings 4, 5 & 6 are nearest the walkway to go through Akumal section to get to coba’s beach area. It’s too far for me to walk.

I recorded all of the 2024 files Middle of April 2024. We return to stay at Sian Ka'an last week of January. We just made Gold status after 9 visits to the complex. I'm certain when we make Black status and the Coba completes the Adult Only spin off we will stay there for sure.

Thank you for watching! Prices are not likely to drop considering the time of year. I have visited many RIU resorts in addition to Tequila. Good food isn’t what they’re known for. RIU main buffets aren’t bad, they are on-par with resort price. RIU a la carte restaurants are sometimes laughingly bad, and often just OK. All elements of the food at the Bahia Principe resorts are better than the RIUs. Buffets, snack bars and a la cartes. Knee is doing great. It’d be even better if was carrying around less weight. That’s what I’m working on now.

We’re going to Sian Kaan in January instead of our usual April anniversary trip.

I’d say 1.45 to 2 hours each way. Traffic could make it much worse.

Grand Coba is better than many resorts costing much more.

I didn’t have a problem because I didn’t get caught. It is a gamble every time because I’m an outlaw when I fly. There is no legal way for a tourist to fly any drone of any size in Mexico.

I actually did this at the beach in the newest Coba video and it was well received. The problem is the natural sound is only pleasant when it’s in a lengthy segment. But when I do long segments that is when my analytics tell me lots of viewers click off. The 4-8 second long segments don’t work with natural sound. Thanks for the comment.

Thank you for watching! Because of traffic it took us just over an hour from the airport. I’m thinking about visiting & recording all 5 Cancun strip RIU resorts in January. Maybe stay 2 nights at each of the 3 Palaces, hit Caribe & Cancun one day.

Across the highway, the trolley ride to the beach takes 10-15 minutes.

I’ve been to over 30 all-inclusive resorts so I have a fair frame of reference on the various food quality levels. Never been to the ultra expensive places though. The buffet quality and choices here are average to slightly above average overall. The a la cartes are average to slightly below average. You won’t go hungry but you won’t be glad you came for the food.

The day I visited I didn’t spend any time lounging at the beach experiencing drink service. The bar is up at the pools the same distance as the restroom so each trip can pull double duty. Remember to match your resort expectations with price paid. If excellent beach drink service is high on your list, I think a different higher cost resort might suit you better.

Though I’ve never made the trip, I’ve heard there is an airport shuttle that will take you for no cost or very little. Do not let a taxi driver convince you otherwise. I suggest checking in with the Cancun Airport board in TripAdvisor Forums. There are pros there that have answered this question many times.

Your arrival time should be normal time-wise just less crowded. Still might be a wait for your check bags.

No, there isn’t and you will not be allowed to delay before going through immigration and customs. It is a security concern, not anyone being rude. You can wait after Immigration Customs.

I was solo the trip I recorded these latest videos in April. I have ample vacation time and airline miles, my wife had no vacation time available. Most people at all 4 resorts are plenty friendly and you’ll find a group to hang out with if you want.

If you stay at Coba you only have access to Coba, except evening reservation restaurants. I’ve never thought Tulum was worth a price increase over Coba. Akumal is because of all the extra benefits, but not Tulum. The 5 minute trolley ride to the beach is not an issue. Remember that Coba is an enormous resort of more than 1,000 rooms. It has all anybody could want. If having just one resort was bad, how are the hundreds of stand alone resorts successful?

We prefer Tulum - because of the kids club - it’s great! My 7 year old loves kids club- they do so much, take them everywhere around the resort - play tennis, clean beach from plastic, they take them to lunch and so much more. We are planning to come back to Tulum for the 3rd time because of the kids club , it runs from 10am -5 pm for kids 4-12, under 4 you pay for a babysitter ($15 or so/hr) and babysitter takes your kid along with kids club activities- so all my 3 kids can stay together (3,5,7 yo). And if you stay in Tulum - kids club is laterally on your “backyard” we stayed on the 1 floor overlooking the kids pool and the club - so just walked out of our patio and bring kids to the kids club in under 1 minute. I don’t if Coba has a separate kids club, but the one in Tulum is awesome ❤

If a freshly renovated room is your preference the certainly book one of the newly renovated rooms at Luxury Akumal. They are a higher cost over the non-renovated rooms so be certain to book the correct one. They’ve been steadily working for about 1.5 years on the project.
