I am here now. Make sure you go to guest services as soon as you can to book a La Carte restaurants. Also your better off booking through Barcelo Maya. I used a vacation travel company and I received one of their sub par rooms. I was even told by someone in the resort that they usually give those rooms to travel companies. Pretty standard.
Well, we are returning to Bahia Luxury Akumal in January with daughter & her family. We’ve been to over 20 other budget to mid-level resorts and we keep coming back to Bahia because of the great value and we feel “at home”. Barcelo is very good, but I’d never pay similar or more $ to stay there over any of the Bahias. Including Grand Coba. The 4 Barcelo Grand facilities, food and booze are very similar to Grand Coba and Grand Tulum. A definite notch below Luxury Akumal and Luxury Sian Kaan (our favorite resort of all). There was never any music or bands playing, staff took a very hands off approach and there really was never much going on.
I’m a novice so I flew my drone very early in the morning when there were far fewer potential human targets if I screwed up. By mid-morning the wind was too strong for my DJI Mini 2 anyway. On my trip in May there was a little bit of Sargassum a few days and a few days it was Sargassum Armageddon.

The entire area of all 4 resorts that make up the “Grand” is the most accessible resort I’ve ever visited. Everywhere is accessible by low sloping ramps where grade changes occur.

Would you choose here or Bahia Principe Akumal? I love Bahia Principe Akumal and I’m nervous about choosing a different resort.
