Knitting Tutorial: Create the Twist on Knot Front Crop and Tee
The marled greens on the Rockmill are lovely! It sent me to look at the Vovo wool, and I'm curious: how soft vs how hardwearing do you find it? I'd never heard of the Campanica breed before.
Love the tee - I would definitely frig that sleeve - it "lifts" up & looks shorter to me. I'd also make them both a bit longer & do the i-cord bind off - would match the v neck look more ? Great colour❤ My (oops, your),lovely tank is looking beautiful - keen to see the final back neck option ❤ Not a knitted sock person - have very soft & sensitive skin thanks to my Ehlers Danlos, & I wear socks most of the year too😅, so they're pretty much of the wool thermal variety. A Plinth weight variation sounds good.
I don’t see the puffiness. The one sleeve does look slightly longer-but only because you pointed it out. I don’t think anyone else will spend enough time caring about or looking at your sleeves to notice. Also, people move around and our sleeves rarely line up generally speaking. If you’re going to be bothered by minutiae-then fix it. Do it for yourself if you do fix it, because it is not obvious at all. I don’t think I would bother with it. I fix things that are obvious or affect the wear. A basic Tshirt sweater with a negligible difference wouldn’t rate using my precious time. You do you because my opinion doesn’t matter to your situation.
Kerri, hello! I am new to your channel today and I’m so thrilled to have found you. In response to your sleeve question, I cannot see the puffiness at all, but my I did notice that the one sleeve looks shorter than the other. Honestly is a very minor notice but if it’s bothering you, you should fix it. Because it will always bother you. At least that is my experience! I’ve got a tank top where I, did one stripe wrong, but it’s right across the front of my chest and I look at it every time I put that sweater on and it drives me nuts! But I would have to rip out the entire thing and I’m just not willing to do that. Lol OK that’s all for now. I might comment some more as I watch your video. I’m at the age where if I don’t say things right now, I forget!so glad to find you thank you for sharing your talents
The Wedgewood Vest looks beautiful - great colour. Might have to knit this instead of the pattern you're not releasing until next Spring 😢 - did want so ethibg simple to try first, but .. ..... The little green tip for your daughter is beautiful as well - very jealous 😅 The detail & effort you put into your designs & knitting projects never ceases to amaze me. I totally agree that unpicking things you aren't happy with is the right thing too do. I have frogged more in the last 5 years than in the last 20😂 I'm trying to organise my stash & keep track of my (many), WIP. I use a couple of filofaxes - you can move the page from one place to another easily. Not only has my memory gone, but I have ME so I always have many things that need blocking or sewing up 😅 . Need to be in the mood.........
Thanks so much - I feel like the color is perfect for fall! It will definitely be a little while before that tank pattern is ready. But honestly, wedgewood vest is not too complicated - just knits and purls and a few strategically placed increases and decreases. You could totally do it!
Hello from Swansea, Illinois.😊❤ your knitting is amazing, I love all of them. I would love to knit your children’s patterns as I have four great granddaughters. That I have been knitting for. I also have twin great granddaughters that are a year old.
Hello - so glad you found me! Your great granddaughters are so lucky to have someone knitting beautiful things for them!
I cannot WAIT for the Plinth sweater - yes, I've made the hat and mitts!
Glad you are excited about it too!! I've decided I'm definitely going to knit up another one. Pattern will be out in November!!
Love that swatch!
I'm super excited about it too - the mohair adds such a lovely touch!
You’re gorgeous! Loved the plans and your backdrop is stunning. New subscriber. ❤💖☺️ I also have a daughter, she is 6. V strong opinions on what I knit for her rn 😂.
Aw, thank you so much! My kiddo already has some strong opinions too, fortunately she is generally excited about the things mommy knits for her right now. We'll see how that goes over the next few years though haha!
My first viewing of your podcast. I love your enthusiasm for fibre and design!! That felted sweater probably would make a great doll or teddy bear sweater. Then you’ll see it often and remember the love you loaded into every stitch!!❤️❤️
Thank you for tuning in! That's exactly what I did with the felted sweater - it's now the perfect size for one of my daughter's stuffed animals!
Oh my... That green with the 2 different yarns combined😍 that sweater will be gorgeous!
I love it so much!!! The dark mohair creates SUCH a pretty effect. I can't wait to get into the spreadsheets so I can actually cast on!
Hi Kerri. The top you are wearing is lovely. Could you please share which one it is? Thank you. Hx 💕🧵🧶🇬🇧
Hi there - so glad you like the top! This is an upcoming design called Parsed Tank. You can see some of the progress through the last few podcast episodes! The pattern has taken me quite a while to put together because of all the options I'm including, so I am holding the release until the Spring.
Not only would I like to see both of those organizational plans, but as someone who's generally interested in personal style, I find people's closet audits interesting too! My autumn plans include finishing up my winter gift knitting, doing a series of holiday socks with variegated yarn (halloween, thanksgiving, Christmas), and starting a sweater-- though I'm working with aran to bulky gauges on both of the sweaters I have planned so if this year is anything like last year in NW OH, there won't be much need for them until November.
Glad you are excited about both of them! It sounds like you have a very full plate for your fall knitting plans too - love your idea of holiday variegated socks. So fun!!
Love the different textures sweater idea. Sounds like a fun knit! Good luck with everything, great ideas.
Thank you! I'm excited about it too - and I'll probably end up knitting more than one to show off different textures!
My daughter loved the Mini Montreal which is a hoodie. I also loved her in the Gramps cardigan by TinCan knits. Ankers was also a big hit.
Thank you for all of these recommendations! I’ve heard a lot of folks recommend Gramps, and all of these look like such classic knits that would be worn tons.
I think the video we'd all like to see next is your daughter pulling out the yarn box, taking out the yarns, moving on to the next box,...just perfect! Your fingerless glove patterns look amazing, some of those will hopefully be on my autumn plans.
hahaha (un)fortunately she is past that stage but it was hilarious if also somewhat frustrating. But good motivation to do something about it now!
Is this the same as Jenys stretchy bind off?
Partially - this is the same technique as Jeny’s stretchy bind off for processing knit stitches. However, Jeny’s stretchy bind off has you process knit and purl stitches differently, which leads to a different look at the edge. This bind off has you process all stitches as knit stitches (regardless of the pattern previous to the bind off row) in order to create the intended effect at the edge.
I think due to the way people look at patterns and the dates they came out, I don't but others search monthly I've noticed on podcasts, I would wait for the spring to release the new top so you have a bigger audience seeing it. Economically for you it would be better to wait and I support that.
Thank you for your feedback, and that's a great point that a lot more people will be specifically looking in the early spring for tank tops.
I won’t be knitting any tank tops until spring. Might start looking for spring/summer patterns around February or March
Thank you for your thoughts on release timing, and when you'll be looking for tank tops - super helpful!
Thanks for the video. I think it's a smart move to wait with the pattern release, even if it's a bit sad because you are so into it now and you've worked in it whole summer. 🐏🌞
Thank you for watching, and I really appreciate your feedback on a spring release instead!
Hello from Swansea, Illinois.
Hello! Thanks for watching :)
Nooo, I want that pattern now 😮 It would be great as a party season item ❤ Plus, I'm a layering person these days (illness & age 😂). Love your technicality & care ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I will be running the preview knit this fall so you could always apply once it opens up so you can knit it now instead of later!!
The repair on your cardigan is awesome ❤. Can't wait to see your amendments to the Wedgewood top - like the sound of the i-cord finish. Can you demonstrate how you "steam block" please ? Seems quicker than what I do -😂 What techniques do you use to join yarn when knitting in the round ? I'm a newbie to this & have so far unpicked every garment I've made using this technique as I'm not happy with the look😢. Probably being a bit too fussy 😅
Thank you! so glad it has been repaired now. For steam blocking - I just pin the fabric out in the same way I would with regular wet blocking (but the piece is dry), and then hover my iron over it on the steam setting. Some people use little handheld steamers instead of an iron! I only use this to even out the fabric (for example sometimes I'll do this before seaming), but always do a full wet block at the end. Reason being that the garment is going to have to get washed at some point, so I might as well do that up front. That means I'm also always wet-blocking swatches so I know what my final/washed fabric gauge is. As for joining yarn in the round, I literally just switch to my new strand and then weave in the ends from the old + new strand later on the WS of the work. Nothing fancy! I do make sure to join at an inconspicuous place though, like at the "side seam" area of a garment, or on the back.
I can't wait to knit the "Little Plinth Tee" for the little ones in my family. I'm so glad I checked out my email for the special discount. I do appreciate it more then you can imagine. I love watching your podcast and I think it's amazing that you do tutorials here too. That's what made me purchase the adult one. Thank you
Little Plinth Tee is such a fun knit - so glad you were able to enjoy the discount!
Will you have directions for making the neck less deep on your tank? I’ve been looking for a tank/camisole pattern.
I will be providing some general modification guidance, yes - but you’ll need to make the decision on how much to adjust.
I am very impressed with your ability to make those shoulder patches blend in so well. I don’t think I could ever do that but then again I probably could never make that beautiful cable card again. Thanks for podcasting.
Thank you! It definitely takes some patience to get right but so worth it. I always go into these sorts of things with a mindset that it’s ok if I need to stop, pull back, and start over - practice helps so much!
Amazing colour of Wedgewood ❤ That is super neat work in repairing your cardigan. As a suggestion, at the same time why don't you reinforce the inside area with a piece of wool felt. You could even make your own felt. I'd definitely do this on all of my cardigans if I had your problem. (My husband had the same issue with his cotton work shirts 😂).
I’m excited to get this repair done on my cardigan! I may opt to needle felt like I mentioned, but wool felt fabric would impact the stretch of that area and I worry I wouldn’t like the feel - but I could always baste some in to see how I feel about it before permanently securing in!
The Wedgewood Vest is moving up my "knit now" - bought it last month ❤❤❤❤ I need to be ready for the 4 panel vest 😂😂😂 Those little Plinth tops are sooo cute - I do hope that you consider my suggestion to keep them dressed on a teddy bear when your daughter can't wear them anymore .
thank you!! you’ll still have plenty of time before the 4 panel top comes out, I’m still working through the pattern! And one of her tops is already a teddy bear top - I put it through an accidental trip through the laundry so now it belongs to a stuffie haha!
Watching your podcast while knitting the sleeves (2 in the same time) of your Andiron Cardigan that I bought ~3yrs ago 😊
That's wonderful - and sleeves must mean you are almost done with your project!
@@kerriblumer I finished it couple days ago. I just need a perfect time to take a photo
Hi Kerri! I'm watching from Ottawa, Canada. I absolutely love the top that you have on. The colour looks so good on you. The light pink baby knit is super cute. I don't have grandkids yet but definitely one that I will remember. Best Wishes from Margaret (My Wonderful Knitting Life podcast).
Thank you - it's one of my favorites to wear, and the baby knits have been really rewarding to make!
Another awesome podcast. Love your wips.
thank you for watching! I’m excited about these new projects and trying to resist casting on more!
I had my Oakhaven tee on yesterday. I bought yarn to go with a difficult to match skirt. Good luck going forward.
Oakhaven is a favorite for me too - so glad you enjoy wearing yours!
Hi Kerri, So fun to find your first podcast - that tank pattern is amazing - love the construction and potential - and the integrated I-cord and slip stitch details are delicious!
Thanks so much and glad to have you here! The integrated i-cord provides a really satisfying result with nice structure at the edges.
Looking forward to scoop, v or square neck tank. Congratulations on first podcast
Thank you so much!
Hi, I'm so glad that youtube showed you to me! I hadn't seen your patterns before, but just took a look through and love soooo many of them! I'll definitely be jumping on to some of those very soon. Great 1st episode, happily subscribing 😊
Aw, I'm glad you found me too - thank you for watching!
Hello Kerri! I am a transplanted Ohioan now living in Tucson Arizona. I really liked your first podcast and your designs are very inspirational. I want to try making the tank when it becomes available as a pattern. I am intrigued with your segment about stash dive and revive. I think that it will become my favorite part of your. Podcast. Good luck.
Thank you so much! I am actually a transplanted Missourian living in Ohio, but I love it here :) I think stash dive & revive is going to be very motivating for me - I may not have something every time but it's definitely going to be a recurring theme as I truly want to focus on using the things I have for a good portion of my projects, including finishing wips & repairing things that have started to wear through!
I have admired your designs for so long. Somehow I imagined you as Irish! Your designs definitely have that feel. Looking forward to more episodes. Carla.
Thank you for watching Carla!
Wonderful podcast! I am looking forward to knitting some of your designs
Thank you so much - I'd love to see what you make!
Good job on your first official podcast on your channel! The new tank is such a fun idea for leftovers. I’m so glad you’re considering doing more top down designs because I much prefer that construction because I like to try on as I go and being fairly short I can also get a better fit on my sweater.
Thank you Rhonda! I definitely have a few more top down ideas floating around in my head, and I totally see the appeal of being able to try on. Though a fun trick for "trying on" bottom up pieces - you can pin them to the outside of an existing similar sweater with locking stitch markers or safety pins to get an idea of what the fit will be like.
Congratulation on your new adventure. I actually purchased your "Plinth Tee" awhile ago and do plan to knit one day soon. The tutorial that is with the pattern made it look very easy to knit. Those little ones are so adorable too. Looking forward to the tank top too.
Thank you for watching! Plinth Tee is such a fun knit, I really want to make another that's just like a plain tee without the center front and center back detail.
Nice to meet you. I subscribed and liked. I love your tank tops. Very cute and look easy enough for this beginner.
Hello from Swansea, Illinois. Congratulations on your podcast and I wish you all the best. I subscribe to it.
Thank you for watching, tank tops are such fun and fast projects!
Welcome to the podcast world! I too just started a knitting podcast (having podcasted on other topics since 2010). I'm really impressed with you podcasting with a toddler! Nice content and I love the sweater you're wearing!
Oh I will have to check out your podcast! The only reason I can podcast with a toddler is because I work full time so she's in daycare - I'm planning to film episodes on days that I'm working from home in the time between daycare drop and starting work!
Joining from MD and also love the tank top and looking forward to the pattern release. All of your work is beautiful!
Thank you for watching!
In USA you have FASHION? Something new to me
Comentarios de ese nivel, sólo denotan su nivel… si no tiene nada que aportar, mejor no comente.
Yes, we do :) Lots of countries have a fashion or garment industry since we all need clothes! I'm sure you've heard of New York fashion week which is always one of the biggest fashion week showcases. What might be surprising to some is that there are lots of other cities in the US outside of NYC with fashion retail brand headquarters, garment manufacturing, or both!
Especially Columbus Ohio where Express is headquartered.
Hello Kerri, writing from France, really liked your podcast and subscribed. Tank is lovely and looks easy to knit. Little girl dress is sweet and would also be great on a doll. Looking forward to doing that. Would love to have a review of your "old" knits, those you still have and wear and all the others if you have pictures. Perhaps not a whole episode, just a little insert. Thank you for being on RUclips.
Thanks for watching - and what a great idea to do a review of older knits! I still have most of the things I've made and wear a lot of them, though definitely I wear some a lot more than others as my style has changed over time.
Hello... Love this coming tank pattern. I need this in my life.😍 Can't wait for the release. Nice first podcast...❤
I'm so glad you love the tank pattern - it's such a fun construction!
Hi fromUK love the tank 😊
Hi Karri, I have loved to watch knitting podcast. I am in Portland, Oregon and I am a new knitter and have been advised to start doing seamed garments. I will continue watching your podcast
Welcome to knitting! Seamed garments provide such nice structure, and can be a little simpler to knit because you are only working one piece at a time vs. shaping the entire sweater at once. It's so satisfying being able to wear something you make!
Hi Kerri! Joining in from Wisconsin. I love your tank top. I can't wait for the pattern!
Thank you for joining in, and thanks for your kind words! The pattern is still in the works, but I am hoping to be able to release it before summer ends.
Hi Kerri! Welcome to youtube, looking forward to hearing about all your cool designs!
Thank you so much for watching!
