Presenting random videos and life moments across my travels, amateur vlogs starting out soon to be something special. Enjoy
CAT cold start on a pipelayer side-boom
Here we have the elusive open cab pipe-layer or better known as a "side boom". We use these all year round in Canada, when winter hits we tarp the cab in with umbrellas as struts for the canvas makeshift teepee and remove the floor pans as well as rotating the engines mechanical fan blades reverse, so the fan now pulls air from the engine bay and throws it towards the rear of the machine up through the floor pan and warms up the operator in -40 degree celsius weather . Enjoy and leave some comments if you have any questions!

Well, there is not much chance of that engine becoming a run away !!! 😂🤔
Was that a oversized can of Binacca blast?
That sounds like a 1693 idling. I know it's not sure sounds good
🤣 COOL, THANKS FOR THE VIDEO
Start with compressed air?
Hey there, Yeah, massive air tank on the upper deck, controlled by a little air relay thats electrically controlled by the ignition. Saves for charging batteries in the -40 weather when you try for hours to get these beasts going once they are shut off!

How dare you! Lol
once you use ether to start a cat engine, you will more than likely have to use it to start that engine from then on!
Ya breaks the top rings, then wears out the bores. Idiots
yeah this truck was known as the ether bunny for that exact reason. I agree, shouldn't ever be used unless situations like this arise.
oy dale, love the comment! super intrigued to hear where you did your failure analysis training on these top rings breaking pal? Also, I agree that ether shouldn't be used unless it has been deemed an ether bunny like this one and your supervisor wants it moved by any means necessary, cheers
@@westrootsindustries9916 Your bang on right here.. Also top rings !! Ok I’m sure with those broken up the engines junk.. We haven’t come across top rings busting..

Thanks for the video We’re in the world are u What’s the hours in this ole girly cat done..
Hey there, in northern Alberta Canada. Specifically Fort Mcmurray. I cannot remember the hours on that exact engine, definitely not original engine, as the chassis on their fleet was approaching the 100.000 hour mark.
@@westrootsindustries9916 Thank you v much. 100,000 unbelievable how these girls just keep going.. What was the temperature when u started her and how long since the last shift.. Wait, your haul trucks get cold? Here in Aus they run 24/7 until they're broken, get fixed and do it again haha
Yes, after a PM service in the field at 50 below, it might not want to fire back up.
Its hard to break these vehicles. It would be an understatement to say they were heavy duty. Some of these have over 130,000 operating hours
yeah we had a few that were up there around that, we were seeing steel fatigue in our non destructive testing and metallurgy analysis strictly from age/weather combo. Its not hard to break these vehicles though ill disagree whole heartedly with you there! Mainly because the smaller haul trucks like this, are owned by contracting companies that get paid to move the dirt by the volume they move, so most contracting companies load these trucks up so they have an absolute pyramid on the box of them, creating all sorts of carnage for the rest of the war wagon!
haha man ive spent 12 full hours trying to get a truck going with heat trailers and tarped in, block heaters plugged in and a lil persuasion with a propane torch here and there on air fittings and relays that are frozen
Siapa yang bisa
Cool..

I want to job in your comapny I am hual truck operator from india
Reckon there’s no work any longer in Alberta due to Joe Biden 🤬. Closing the pipe line
Can't wait to see the size of green energy batteries they going use to power these 😂
They'll be reasonable size, but of a swappable design. The types of places these trucks operate are ideal for having a depot to just switch battery packs a few times a day. A small logistics hurdle, well worth the benefits of reduced fuel and maintenance costs as well as faster operation due to the higher power and torque of electric drive.
@@brianhawkins these trucks run 12 hour's shifts and with their payload I think it be a miracle if they make a battery to last an hour, but if they wanted guess they could stick few solar panels on the roof lol.
@@brianhawkins Once they figure out the onsite powerplant/powergrid problem XD
Wait what..... they replacing diesel WITH BATTERIES😭😭😭😭😭
Actually, there are trucks that powered by power grid and have train style pantographs. Nothing new under the sun.
Preheat ???
nope! bosses orders, get that lump of crap started at any means necessary its going in for a rebuild.....OKAY CHIEF any means necessary eh....
@@westrootsindustries9916 Sounds almost sad 😞 Lump of crap 💩.. To think how hard she’s worked.. How long had she been parked up
You would think a propane powered thermo-siphon engine heater would be standard equipment.
how would that fair at -40 degrees celsius ? propane would freeze and so would the truck haha. cheers
@Emily Emily yang lalu
@@westrootsindustries9916 We have diesel powered engine heaters on lots of our equipment, got most of it running in -42C this year
3516 probably about 1900hp
Esse bruto em
Love it!
This thing does not have a block heater? Or does it?
They should be plugged in below -10°C.
Yes sir, has 2, one on either side of the engine. This war wagon was finally going in for a planned rebuild, this was a last ditch effort to just get it going and get it off site for rebuild
Air starter, some ether and there he goes, Nice movie and good diesel sounds
Throw some light on air starter.
@@himanshukumarmaurya7326 An air starter is a startermotor who uses air under pressure. This air is taken from the brakesystem. Ingersoll rand is a manufactuor from this type startermotor
@@fransstrous9809 thanks mate.
0:42 that is NOT a good sound lol
@@MrMisterDerp thats the air starter perfectly normal...
Looks like a 789
Air starter?
Whats air starter?
Yep it's an air start
You can hear that it is an air starter.
@@sakibsarwar9542 Like a normal starter but it uses compressed air instead of a electric motor
Think of it like an windy gun in a workshop, just a bit bigger.... 👍
