Dating With a Disability: 6 Myths Debunked
Meeting my special someone in 2 hours🙏
I'm a single guy in my 30s with high functioning autism - every woman who I decided to pursue throughout my life has seen me as nothing more than "just a friend" - felt like an absolute gut punch I heard that! :/ - pretty much at the point now where I'm just going to wait till a woman makes the first move on me, at least that will I'll know she's interested in me.
I dated a girl with anxiety... Never again.
2:08 My default expectation by now is that people will not (be able to) honor agreed upon times and to plan accordingly. I will (try to) not be upset, but also stick to my communicated schedule and not wait. Dating advice regarding people on the spectrum seems so... tragically pointless.
I'm 25 and I have high-functioning autism and I went on my first date earlier this year in July. Unfortunately, it hasn't escalated any further. I hope to go on more dates soon so that I can get to one of my ultimate dream goals: to find my dream girl/soulmate.
try dating someone with DSM 4-5
we arent thinking ANY of that stuff, thats ridiculous. whats going on is a FEELING that we struggle to control or cannot control... we arent suffering from anxiety because we are worried about what we are wearing.... this was obviously written by someone who has NO idea.
Some of this feels like not quite high masking achieved if certain behaviors or traits are easily visible. But it's all good, because autistic traits at some level will appear at some point in a deeper relationship and there's nothing wrong with it.
NEVER tell a woman you have autism! You might as well be telling her you are gay and have AIDS.
Im meeting him in a few hours omg
Bro I have dated for like 9 months and I’m meeting him in 6 days I’m scared as fuck
i’m meeting her this week boys
I'm pretty sure I'm dating someone with High functioning Autism. He has all the signs but has a decent social life. My biggest issue is he avoids all talk about emotions or stops talking to me if he cant follow through with plans, only to cancel the next day on me. I am honestly unsure of how to approach things with him. I'm very patient but dont understand how to approach the topic of dating if he refuses to make time for me. His work life has been eating at our relationship to the point he can't make time for me anymore. Any attempt at trying to calmly discuss this issue is met with avoidance or him saying he does have time when he clearly doesn't.
At first I didn't derstand why my boyfriend didn't had eye contact with me, the brutal honesty, the sarcasm and why he avoid crowds. Then he confess me a few days later that he is in spectrum, I didn't mind at all, he is a wonderfully man and I am happy that I have him in my life. now, everything makes sense, I'm super happy to be able to understand him better and his needs, instead of been all judgemental. I will make sure to keep educating myself ❤😊 thank you very much.
I'M SO NERVOUS 😭
I’m scared I will gonna be kidnapped 😭😭
OK IT WAS AWESOME
Hm, I've been married unwittingly to a high functioning autistic and these are now my "5 Surprising Truths" about our dating experience. 1. He's lying about who he is 2. He's lying about who he's not 3. He's lying about everything, not just about himself, per se, all day every day. 4. He's hates himself but lies to cover it up. 5. He's learning more about you, the *authentic one willing to be vulnerable* (aka "neurotypical") one, so he can be confident his lies will pay off in tricking you into marriage. "Oh, what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive."
I’m struggling with this topic because I don’t have the luxury of being able to make anything in my life happen by saying I have anxiety. It’s always been used against me and I’m made to feel terrible because, often, I have to go and do the things that help the people relying on me to, you know, eat…. Or have shelter.
Screw u
My gf is going through menopause...I had prostate cancer....intimacy helped me bond..so now im only left with emotioal connection....as an asd1...ahhhhhh.
🤮
That initial attraction can quickly turn into repulsion once you get to know them.
That goes for anyone
I have more of an Aromantic type of view. Because from my experience guys that don’t have autism, have always been repulsed by me. And the two guys with autism, I did date back in high school, were the types of guys with behavioral problems who were emotionally abusive and cold. But despite all of that hardship I live a happy life. I just prefer making friends with people, not only because of my past but because of the way my generation acts and how many creepy stalker people my age that there are whenever you go to a club here in Minneapolis. My younger sister has had to deal with very creepy dudes at clubs and so have it. Seems like all guys do now is just follow you around, and they noticeably don’t care about have no social appropriateness when they interact with you. Sure I’m not the only GenZ who’s noticed this going on with our generation and the younger
I'm 58 and I use a walker Im having trouble with dating sites cause I physically can't have sex alot of site I've been on that's all the men want.
I matched with a woman who has Cerebral Palsy on Tinder dating. She mentioned her condition in the middle of the conversation, nothing on her profile. She uses a walker, mentioned her troubled past and with tinder dating etc when they find out about her condition. But the more striking thing was that she is VERY direct, like "let's drink coffee at my place" even though i suggested the local mall in her city, which i believe is very uncommon for most women (at least with dating i believe?), and just after adding her on snapchat there were two "red flags", sending selfies to me on snapchat, and asking if we could communicate on camera "camera date". We are both in our late 20's. I will challenge my way of life a bit and talk in person and we'll see where it goes.
this is all basic common sense things . a rule that should be mentioned on here . Though I believe man should pay out of simple respect. Even if you’re not each others cup of tea . however, women ( for some reason older women ) it’s not wise to choose a high dollar or trendy place if you have not even met . a place for a simple cup of joe or glass of wine to converse is enough . it’s not a question of cheap , it’s a question of respect and class . let’s face it , you met on a app chances are you have no idea is the personal attraction matches the online . why would yo expect a stranger to drop 100 dollars on a first meet ?
You’ll be miserable trust me
I married a man who kept his ASD a secret from me and it’s been hell on earth.. I truly wish I had never met this person
I'm ending my relationship with a high anxiety girlfriend. I'm so tired of the deflection her anxiety causes. Never again.
It's hard to deal with someone like that, I personally haven't but I'm trying to, there's this girl I really like but she has anxiety, she tells me we can do something together then disappears. It's definitely up to the person if they want to deal with someone like that.
@@YinC4 best of luck. My girlfriend was beautiful but high anxiety, depression, and newly self diagnosed adhd has caused our relationship to falter.
@silverblue9286 my respects for trying to hold it together. I believe all mental issues can be fixed only if the person who suffers from it wants to get better. I had a friend with depression, and it looked like he was always looking for random reasons to sabotage himself, even when things were going exactly as he wanted, he would make up things ti be depressed about. Eventually, he stopped being my friend because he didn't want me to help him anymore. He just wanted to go to a corner and drink and feel bad about nothing.
One word: Don't. Not bein' mean, just honest.
Well you certainly shouldnt, with that attitude at least. Just don't spread your misery
I'm going on my first date in two years in a matter of two hours. I'm scared as shit 🤣
How was it?
@@DarkFlameMaster1000 horrible 🤣🤣 no connection, awkward as hell & just felt weird lol
As an autistic woman, I found this to be the most accurate. I love adventure and fun, but like to know what I’m doing ahead of time so I can prepare and plan. Some of that is to do with scheduling and some with sensory issues and if I already had something else planned ( changing plans Inhad my mind set to is difficult). Honestly, I think it’s just courteous.
My Fiancee is on the spectrum and is on the verge of leaving me. She says she doesn't feel like she can depend on me to be there for her emotionally because I've been dealing with a bad bout of depression for about 3 months. She never told me how she was feeling until she already given up on us. I'm trying so hard to show her I will do my best to be there for her in every way but I fear it's to late. How can I show her how much I love her and that I never want her to doubt that I have her back. I would do literally anything for that woman.
I don't know if it's too late, rarely will we bother to say anything if it's too late. Just show her you care about her, and then do your things and care about yourself. Sometimes wanting something so bad we can push away. Just life your life as a good person and the rest will follow. Sometimes we part paths, that's ok. Love is something bigger. Hope that helps. :/
I’m on the spectrum and just learning about this… I’ve always hid my asd because I was made to feel different but now I’m done trying to fit in. Thank you for these videos I am sending them to my gf so we can understand it more, I believe my behaviors caused our relationship to end.
Understand that we need our "autistic rest" or we won't be functional. If you date, it's one thing but think long term. Some of us go as far as getting our own bedroom so we can get the space we need to survive. For me, when I enter my room at night, I put on anime and sometimes, I don't even watch it. It's for the noise that is constant and expected. And it's the same feeling as laying down in a hot bath and letting go. I used to explode in anger and fits due to overexposure and stress. It's not that I don't love my wife and kids. I simply didn't even know I needed that.
That makes sense. When I'm stressed I start singing. It seems counterintuitive, because I'm overwhelmed by all the noise already going on around me, but the noise around me is chaotic whereas music is very ordered and follows patterns (at least, the music that I listen to is.) So, if I can't play music, I make my own by singing.
So in other words, as a guy who grew up with selective mutism, social anxiety, and possibly body dysmorphic disorder, and never developed any social skills as a result, I should just give up on dating. According to people in the comments. Well that just made my day. I already gave up years ago though so I guess it was a good decision. I lied. I did just start back trying but i guess it was for nothing.
It can also help to choose activities where both of you are focused on something in common. "Working alongside" is very valuable for the autistic's experience. :)
Thank you, this was helpful
Just don't and keep your life fun 😂 ❤
Girl if im dating them I already know about their pet and family 🥲
It generates Self doubt level so high fk😂
Women don’t want to date men with autism because we can’t be manipulated by their emotional manipulation with social cues.
I was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome at age 35. With the new classification in the DSMV am I now considered to be ASD?
May see him next year or in 2026 😭🙏💕
I have high functioning autism and I NEVER dated anyone! I’ve been single my whole life,😂 I can take it tho
This is very good info
That specialbridge site let's you search for ALL members with a filter without needing an account! Terrible for privacy
We didn't find out my husband had autism until he was 73 and 42 yrs married. We destroyed each other. Forced separation now and will never see each other again. And people wonder why I am currently writing this from my mental hospital bed (the last of over 15 admissions). I say the last because I can't do any more and see no way out than to end myself when I leave. So when I say destroyed, I wasn't kidding. Only one thing harder than staying in a neurodiverse relationship (for both parties) and that's being in one when autism has gone undiagnosed. You all are lucky. There is so much information out there now and autism is more easily diagnosed. We didn't stand a chance. I'm too broken to go on alone any mire 😢
Thank you for this video! At 58 years of age, I have only recently discovered my Autism and it now makes so much sense as to my differences in approaching life. Jeffrey Z. in SC
I can say tha the schedule part is point on..especially when you re like me that as ADHD and Autism
Yeah for me the issue is I have strange obsessions. I love sweaty women, volcanoes, drones, and odd stuff. Not very women whom like to go to the gym and then how do you tell your date that you like watching them sweat..or you like to d a particular date like walk in the park or hiking because you like to see them sweat? I mean I guess that can come put later as the relationship builds?...
