OpenDirectory BigSur
A quick tutorial about getting network home folders to work on the Server app in Big Sur using Open Directory. I did gloss over the part about creating an open directory master but that is pretty straight forward.

Good video. But do you know where or how to replace the super capacitors in that model? Mine will not turn on.
I made the replacement, I connected the printer, reset and the fuser error remains, what else can I do, thanks
Easier if you remove the part with the green clips 1st, then the 2 black covers.. reverse to assemble. and the two plugs on the right come off easier with needle nosed pliers.. but pull at the top of the plugs, the front and side pcs. are guides and permanent.
MacOS server needs to be taken out back and shot. Thanks for sharing though.
I was successful in adding my 27" 2011 iMacs that are running El Capitan this way, with Home Folders and menu bars working. on T1 2019 and T2 2020 27' iMacs running Catalina, Big Sur and/or Monterey, I get an error "You are unable to login to this user account 'user' at this time". Anyone have any ideas on how I can rectify this? I have spent hundreds of hours on this. This video is the first time I have been able to successfully get Home Folders working on older clients with Server 5.11.1. If I can get the users to be able to login to the new client iMacs that would be amazing. I do not understand what to do to get the third party DNS server working. I feel that is the roadblock but I will need some advice and help here. I have older Mac Pros and a VMware Fusion running El Capitan that could potentially function as my DHCP and DNS server via macOS Server 5.2. Thoughts?
I tried NAMO as dns server and having same problem. I can log in from client until I change the advanced settings as in video. Then it does not log in at this time message. So I don't think it is dns.
More I need more! haha, great stuff and beautifully presented. I work with Macs everyday and it's nice to see there are others out there.
pull the paper tray completely out of the machine and remove the jammed error no paper in side any one help me
Thank you thank you thank you. I hope this buys me another 5 years plus with my printer.
While this did work, it seemed to be quite unreliable. I am not sure why. Ended up going back to a much older setup for OpenDirectory and Network home folders.
What does your older setup include? I was thinking of adopting my Mac mini server into active directory? idk.
@@julianbarriga8513 My older setup was a 1,1 Mac Pro running 10.5.8. I upgraded the memory to 16 GB and put an SSD in as the main drive and used spinning drives for backup.
thank you for your video!! I've enrolled my mac mini to opendirectory and tried to login via network account, but i have an issue like "you cannot accses right now" or smth like this. But at the same time, i can login via domain admin account. Perhaps, i lost smth important in account settings?
@@cabinreactors6941 Have you been successful in joining a Big Sur client to an older server such as 5.2?
And what did you do? we already bind the computers, we would love that the home folder, appear the same evertime the user log in in his account,, did you solve this problem ?
Hello, MFC-9330cdw 'cover is open. close the top cover...I know i have closed it but it still doesent work. What is the problem? Thanks.
I can't say I know for sure, but I would suspect it is a sensor that "reports" the cover closed or open. Possibly the sensor is broken or misaligned?
@@jose2292 Is it this one? www.precisionroller.com/boards-for-brother-mfc-9330cdw/details_83357.html . Thank you.
@@miapalo4540 I really don't know for sure. I would hate to mislead you one way or the other.
@@jose2292 After I fix the error: "Cover is open. Close the top cover". And replace the toner cartridge. Then the machine has this error: ruclips.net/video/21QJLNAHf9I/видео.html
Stuck at “PF Kit T1 ok?” screen. Pressing set goes back to reset-PF Kit T1 screen, and scrolling to number keys and pressing 99 while still in above menu doesn’t do anything. Please help!
Same here. Any luck?
Thanks for the great video. Here's how I reset my fuser: ruclips.net/video/J2Gl6ZOexdQ/видео.html&vl=en
I replaced the Fuser - thank you - but it still tells me I need to replace it - how do I reset - Thank You
Did you follow the instruction in the text at the end of the video?
Thanks a ton. Saved time and money. And hassle, really. I didn’t have to go through the maintenance stuff, it just worked. I appreciate that you shared this with us.
Has anyone had this issue that after replacing the fuser you get an error message "2 sided printing disabled check back cover'? I went through all the troubleshooting steps but the problem remains and I can't print duplex, everything else works as normal
The 9130CW doesn't have a duplex function at all. For Brother's duplex printers, you need a "D" in the name, like 9330CDW.
Did you work on Twd?
Not sure I understand your question.
Thanks for this video! Thanks to your guidance, I was able to replace the fuser all by myself.
Hi! Thanks for the video. I've just replaced my fuser, and it seemed to go pretty smoothly. But now my screen says "Remove Jammed Paper", ..... so I must have put something back together wrong, triggering a sensor. Any suggestions?
Thank you for posting this!! The brother website and instructions are HORRIBLE and you made it easy
Eric: Thanks so much. Your instructions regarding the reset worked; the "official" instructions were ambiguous and did not work.
Volume too low. Otherwise good. thanks.
Thanx! Managed to follow this. I just had my spring on the fuser cover assembly get out of whack, but we figured it out. Ironic that such a small thing can become the pain :)
Thank you so much for this video! You saved me $35 by buying the part myself on ebay, and another $75 from the labor at my local printer repair shop. Very easy to follow along with the video. Greatly appreciate your help!
Brilliant guide, thanks for uploading this!
In Australia, the complete printer is cheaper than just the fuser.
+Steve RX4 you can buy just the part needed to fix the problem from me here for $88.00 www.ebay.com.au/itm/141943595088?ssPageName=STRK:MESOX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1559.l2649
+Terry Jones Yeah but they fall apart again unless you use expensive oem toner.
Thank you, This was very helpful for me to replace the Fuser und es ist auch für nicht englisch sprechende hilfreich!
Thanks...ordered the fuser for my MFC 9330CDW...looks to be the same process...
+novarod what was the part number for the fuser roller unit for the 9330CDW? Thanks Len
+Len Davidson Looks to be Brother LY6753001 OEM Fuser unit...ordered from Amazon...here's what they said on Amazon:"Brother Fuser Assembly This Fuser (Fixing) Unit is compatible with the following printer models: Brother HL-3140CW Brother HL-3170CDW Brother MFC-9130CW Brother MFC-9330CDW Brother MFC-9340CDW "...when I received it I installed it with no problems!
