I was successful in adding my 27" 2011 iMacs that are running El Capitan this way, with Home Folders and menu bars working. on T1 2019 and T2 2020 27' iMacs running Catalina, Big Sur and/or Monterey, I get an error "You are unable to login to this user account 'user' at this time". Anyone have any ideas on how I can rectify this? I have spent hundreds of hours on this. This video is the first time I have been able to successfully get Home Folders working on older clients with Server 5.11.1. If I can get the users to be able to login to the new client iMacs that would be amazing. I do not understand what to do to get the third party DNS server working. I feel that is the roadblock but I will need some advice and help here. I have older Mac Pros and a VMware Fusion running El Capitan that could potentially function as my DHCP and DNS server via macOS Server 5.2. Thoughts?
I tried NAMO as dns server and having same problem. I can log in from client until I change the advanced settings as in video. Then it does not log in at this time message. So I don't think it is dns.
While this did work, it seemed to be quite unreliable. I am not sure why. Ended up going back to a much older setup for OpenDirectory and Network home folders.
@@julianbarriga8513 My older setup was a 1,1 Mac Pro running 10.5.8. I upgraded the memory to 16 GB and put an SSD in as the main drive and used spinning drives for backup.
thank you for your video!! I've enrolled my mac mini to opendirectory and tried to login via network account, but i have an issue like "you cannot accses right now" or smth like this. But at the same time, i can login via domain admin account. Perhaps, i lost smth important in account settings?
And what did you do? we already bind the computers, we would love that the home folder, appear the same evertime the user log in in his account,, did you solve this problem ?
More I need more! haha, great stuff and beautifully presented. I work with Macs everyday and it's nice to see there are others out there.

What does your older setup include? I was thinking of adopting my Mac mini server into active directory? idk.
