Chicago Marathon Weekend
Hey everyone! Here’s my video from the Chicago Marathon Weekend!
It’s not as polished as I’d like, but I really wanted to get it out there. I haven’t added any voiceovers yet-still working on getting comfortable with my narrator voice.
In this video, you’ll find highlights from the expo, and the Kofuzi Pancake Shakeout Run. (Thank you Ko, and Asics, and whoever else put that together, the shirt is awesome!) It was an amazing experience connecting with other runners! To top it off, on Sunday, I ran with the dopest group of runners-The Shoe Gazers. No marathon experience will ever compare to this! Hopefully, we’ll do it again next year with even more runners! If you spot yourself, drop a co...

Chicago Marathon 2024 with the Shoe Gazers: Did We Go Sub-4?
Просмотров 2,5 тыс.Месяц назад
Today, I ran the Chicago Marathon with Robbe Raccoon’s Chicago Shoe Gazers-a band of ring-tailed near-rodents on a mission to snag a sub-4-hour finish in 2024. For myself, coming off Berlin just two weeks ago with little to no running in between, this was always going to be a tough challenge. Did we pull it off? Let’s find out-time to get trashy! Huge thank you to the Believe in the Run crew an...

I did my best to capture the excitement of Berlin Marathon weekend! I need to remember to film more when I'm out and about in Chicago this coming weekend. I managed to get some footage of the Ben Parkes shakeout run at Tiergarten, along with plenty of sightseeing on Saturday-pr...
Berlin Marathon 2024 - Can I run my first sub 4 hour marathon?
Просмотров 3,5 тыс.Месяц назад
Sub 4 Hour Marathon Attempt #2 I gave it my all during this race and stuck with the pacers for a good portion. Things were going well until mile 22 when it all started to fall apart. Cramping in my left leg hit me hard, and by mile 23, I was dealing with some stomach issues. I really believed this was my time to finally break 4 hours, but once again, I came up short. Despite the challenges, I s...

Gday mate, enjoying your videos and good vibes out on the course. ✌🏼
@@joshtraceysurfing Thank you for watching. 🤘🤘
The pro 3 is also one of my all time favorite
@@a2dazgod539 I absolutely love this shoe!
great to spend time with you this weekend!
Thank you, we had a great time. Enjoy NYC for me!
Great video. I ran the half a couple weeks before, you make want to come back there for the marathon Great job
Thank you! I think it’s the Chicago crowd that makes this race so fun! I’ll be back next year for sure. You should run it too!
Congrats 👏👏👏
Thank you! 🙏
Great video! Thank you for capturing the race day - it was a great experience that was made better with a great group of people!
@@JasonFWise thank you for watching. This was the most fun I’ve ever had running a marathon and I hope we can all do it again sometime.
Very good video! Thanks for capturing these moments!
Thank you for watching! I had the time of my life out there!!!! :)
@@darylbickford same!
Great video Daryl! I’ll see you next year. Chicago Distance Series x4?
@@yutheman Thank you. I’ll be there! Shamrock shuffle here we come!
Good to hear a review from someone that has put genuine miles into the shoe without being sent them for free 👍
@@jlhuk52 Thank you for watching! My favorite is still the Nimbus 25.
@@darylbickford nice, it looks a great shoe. I'm using the puma magnify 2 as my cushioned daily trainer which I like a lot. I used to run in the nimbus 18 5/6 years ago, great shoe and was curious how the newer versions are.
Hey it’s Keegan. Great vid Daryl. Brings me right back to race day!!
@@keegan_breaksaway yo! Thank you. Chicago never disappoints - especially the crowd!
Thanks for catching the race atmosphere on camera. I love these viby videos, where you simply show the marathon from your perspective.
Thank you. A lot slower than the Berlin Marathon but I had a really great time ! Maybe you’ll come run Chicago next year.
@@darylbickford as expected, but that means you had more time to enjoy the atmosphere. 🔥
🤩 I love your own view of the few iconic places in Berlin you had time to visit. ❤ If there will be a next Berlin Marathon for us both, I’m gonna show you places. After all, I was born and raised there.
@@runnerfromhel So many places to see and so little time. If we both go back - yes show me around!
@@darylbickford I think we both have a score to settle. 😄
I asked wiser and faster runners than me. It takes a lot of practice with the gels. And even then throwing up can happen sometimes. But I wouldn’t want to miss the experience of Berlin. 🎉 Great video.
@@runnerfromhel I’ll probably use the same gels for Chicago next weekend. Might be too soon to try something new! Glad I got to meet you!!
I foudn the pacers to be terrible at berlin 2024, you can even see in the video the 4.15 pacer running along side the 4 min pacer, and actually i ran beside the 3,45 pacer for a long time, he drpped back, i got over taken but the 4 hur pacer about 20 m from the finish and i ended with 4.15 time, also the 4.30 pacer finsihed ahead of the 4 hour pacer, essentially useless, they should have to run at a steady 4 hour pace and if they diverge too much they shouldnt be allowed to be pacers in future races,
@@pauricgrant8700 thank you for watching. Did you have a race goal? What’s your next race? I’m running Chicago but not looking for a sub 4 on tired legs. Running for fun.
congrats on doing Berlin, you ran very well, and good job on going for your goal, happy running
Thank you for watching. I felt like a had a good chance. Berlin was an amazing course.
Almost had it!
Next time!
Congrats! I was also in Berlin trying to break Sub 4! I missed breaking it by 31 seconds. I'll also be in Chicago. We'll break sub 4 soon. We got this!
@@mr_neil_martinez Let’s go! 31 seconds you can get that! I’ll see you in Chicago - another fast course!!!
very cool
@@juliannaruffini Thanks for watching!!.
Without the stick, but a few gels instead you would have made it
I think I need to find some new gels. Those Maurtens were giving my stomach some issues.
Well done and congrats! Puma DNE3 ? I love that shoes
@@Gymclasszero_c Thank you! Yes! This shoe was a fantastic ride for the race.
@@darylbickford I am training for my first marathon next year (LM), and aiming for 4 hours. Can’t see it happening at the moment, but that’s my target. Again, well done you!

Bravo great job and emotions during the journey… cheers
@@luyi3086 Yo! Thank for watching. Berlin was unbelievable.
You'll get em next time!
Thank you!! 🙏
A truly incredible shoe. Much tidier than the AlphaFlys, you barely notice you're wearing them but at the same time, they throw you forward. The only shoe I've worn that I choose over the Alphafly 1's
I love this shoe, I'm running the Chicago Marathon next weekend and I might use these, it just depends how I feel.
congratulations! you did a fantastic race! sub 4h in the next marathon, dont worry! Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina
Yo! Thanks for watching. Berlin was amazing.
I hope to one day do one and finish close to your time. This helps to inspire me. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! One day we’re going to hit our goals!
Great race video! Congratulations on another marathon and ⭐️. Those last couple miles looked tough. Way to power through.
Thanks you! One day I’ll find the right balance of nutrition and training to bring me to the finish line for my goal. See you two weeks!
I ran these in the rain and it felt good, it didnt soak up any water inside the shoe. Its breatheability is also the same reason it pushes out water. I really felt the legendary pumagrip and it just grabs the pavement like a cat(pun intended)😅
@@fishbone2402002 That pumagrip is dope! Also - nice pun! I have them packed for my Berlin trip. Hoping they help me!!! Thanks for watching.
Nice 👍
@@anuarnasir4038 thank you 🙏
Just came across your Chicago video and out of personal interest I took the freedom to look briefly over your great Berlin Marathon training which you share on Strava. I am pretty interested in endurance training.😅 Your training seems to head towards a 3: 45 if I analysed it correctly. Some words of confidence from me: in Berlin the sub4 is basically yours if you don‘t start straight away at your perceived max marathon effort. Your half marathon time gives you a good buffer. You got this. 💪 atmospheric video by the way.
Thank you for this! I feel like I might have a good chance. I’m going to try to find the 4 hour pacer and stick with them!
Hello. My name is KAMAL 64 years old / Sorocaba/SP/ Brazil. I'm looking for a sneaker to use along with my NOVABLAST 3. I want to use it in the races I do from 16km/3af, 19km/4af and in the 6af/21 to 26km. I'm looking for a shoe that provides excellent CUSHIONING, DURABILITY and that allows me to do paces between 7.0 and 5.0. And that I don't hold back when I want to accelerate, especially in the final 3, 4 km, that helps development. Acquaintances gave these SUGGESTIONS; ⚠️NOVABLAST 4 ⚠️PUMA DEVIATE NITRO 3 ⚠️PUMA DEVIATE NITRO ELITE 3 ⚠️SUPERBLAST 1. CAN YOU give YOUR SUGGESTIONS? Thank you for your kindness.
@@yasbekvrum Kamal, thanks for watching! It sounds like you’ve got a clear idea of what you’re after, and your friend’s suggestions are spot on. I’d also recommend looking into the Superblast 2-I’ve been hearing fantastic things about it! I don’t have mine yet, but they’re on the way! 😊 The Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 3 is definitely a great option, but it’s slightly less cushioned compared to the Puma Deviate Nitro 3. Based on what you’ve mentioned, it seems like you’re after a bit more cushion for those longer runs, plus something that lets you pick up the pace without holding you back.
@@darylbickford Thanks for looking. But do you have any other suggestions? If I hadn't mentioned the options, would you have any others? Other brands perhaps?
@@yasbekvrum Kamal, you could consider the Saucony Endorphin Speed 4, or from what a friend of mine suggested the On Cloudmonster.
Very original analogy with the sheets.
Puma has invested heavily in long distance running during the last 2 years. I hear so many good things from IRL friends about the deviate nitro elite.
This has been a fun shoe to run in! It’s the first Puma running shoe I’ve had the chance to try. It won’t be the last.
🎉 Same shoe choice for Berlin 2024 here. ⭐️
@@runnerfromhel Shoe Twins! Let’s goooo!
@@darylbickford 💪 I guess there will be many, since it’s such a great shoe. Any thoughts about the Superblast 2 ?
@@runnerfromhel I ordered it a few weeks ago, but it’s still back ordered. I’m hoping to get it before Berlin so I can use it on a shakeout run!
Does your big toe touch the tip of the shoe when you land?
@@RapRapV Not on this shoe. Sizing felt good, snug , but comfortable.
@@darylbickford thanks
I went for the Edge Paris personally. I'd like to try the Sky out though to see how they feel compared to each other
@@paulmulks I’d like to try the Edge at some point , although I did run in the Puma deviate Nitro 3s this morning and I’m guessing those have similar feel to the edge.
Great review!! Just purchased a pair for my upcoming half!
@@Mr_lawrence_ These shoes will be great for a half marathon. Let me know how it goes!
Heyy. Do you recommend for a 75kgs pro runner, half marathon I want to use
Sorry. I originally misread what shoe this comment was for. I wouldn’t use it for a half marathon.
These are great shoes, recently bought. I go half a size up with them (UK 10.5 compared to 10) but that's also what I do with Nike VF and AF. I'm looking forward to running a Half in these, and some 5/10ks soon. Great review!
@@valleyboylegend4202 Thanks for watching. I’m excited to see how these treat me for Berlin. Good luck on your next race. Let me know how it goes.

@@waterfallstudios5746 Thanks for watching. I’ve never tried the alphaflys. Good luck in Berlin!
Same here, alphafly not working for me, doesn't feel natural
@@a2dazgod539 Yeah I agree, I recently gave the AF3 another go with a 10miler, and they don't feel natural and bulky on foot. Shame really, I just prefer shoes like VP3 and Asics

@@darylbickford thank you Sir, there's still 3-4 months to the race
Hi ..would u recommand them for someone who overpronates? In your video I saw your feets overpronating in slow motion?
Hi, Thanks for watching. I could really feel some calf fatigue while running, but not enough for me to stop using the shoe. If you have flat feet or tend to overpronate, these shoes could potentially make those issues worse. Just something to keep in mind.
Is a great shoe for my 5 or 10k, however, as you mentioned, it can cause some calf fatigue and some sort of Achilles tendinitis. I’m not sure if you have tried the 9th version of takumi Sen, but in my case, I found it bit more midsole stiff which is good for my running dynamics. Anyways, great shoes. A sout out from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, moustache bro.
@@carlosgarciabanda Thanks for watching. I’m going to keep using it for those 5k/10k days. I never had a chance to try the 9th version but looking forward to the next one when it comes out. Happy running!
The thing you said about your right foot, I feel that in some of my Pegasus 39-41. It’s like they have less cushion on the inside part of the shoe. I have a bunch of pairs of those, some for running and some for work, and some feel that way and some dont. It’s kind of annoying.
@@TheManolastra I stopped at 39 for Pegs. How was the 40? I also see that they have a Pegasus Plus out, I’m curious about that one.
Do you recommend the takumi sen 10 as a daily trainer or if not, which one would you recommend frontal the Adidas brand?
@@carlospro2428 thanks for watching. I wouldn’t use the Takumi as a daily trainer. I’d look into the Adidas Adizero SL2 for a daily. If you can find the SL1 on sale it’s worth it. I used it while training for London.
