We are on prima in April
Thanks for the details, we are cruising Vista in September
Fantastic! We enjoyed our time on the Vista!
Nice one.
Thanks!
Though the Atlas World Traveler only has one hot tub on deck 7. I am looking forward to eating ice cream in Antarctica.
We just remembered that the World Traveler only has one hot tub. Our last two Atlas cruises have been on the World Navigator, which has 2 hot tubs. Unfortunately, for Antarctica cruises, the ice cream trolley is not open. But you can get ice cream inside (we might be sensing a bit of appropriate sarcasm?). Don't worry, though, as the hot tub(s) and pool will be open once you get across the Drake. The hot tub(s) are great when you return from your night camping in Antarctica, especially right after the Polar Plunge! Thanks for watching.
Nice review of the Atlas World navigator B1 cabin🎉
Yea an so much. We’ve now sailed 3 times on Atlas and each time it has been in a Veranda Stateroom. However, we just got off our last cruise where we were able to tour most of the other cabins. We’ll have a full tour coming up in the future. Thanks for watching!
The Haven takes up a lot of space. The venue was small. The Theater was okay. I was in the studio . Thank You for your thorough review.
Thanks for watching and caring enough to comment!
I agree with you about the food. Was it bad? No, but it wasn’t great… it as just good.
Thank you for your detailed and informative video review. I sincerely appreciate all of your analyses of the ship, the boarding process, the amenities, and most importantly, the Antarctic landings on the zodiacs! It was an absolute pleasure getting to know you aboard the Patagonia cruise we just completed. Thank you for convincing me to participate in the Patagonian Plunge! Safe travels and bon voyage. I hope to see you again on another adventure!
We were so thrilled to get to know you. We will stay in touch and look forward to the next opportunity to share the sea together!
Well, thank you. I sailed this ship when it was fairly new I guess around 2004 or so. I don't quite remember the exact year. And I remember it looking somewhat different. The thing is you call this ship "small" several times and it wasn't thought of at all as small at that time. Nor do I think of it as small now. True enough, it is smaller than most ships but I think most ships are huge, gigantic and gargantuan in size, so I feel this is a largish ship still. What do I think is small? The lux ships that carry a few hundred passengers or a thousand or a bit over and are in the 35,000 or so ton range, not 78,000 . As for the newer ships, I don't really like them better. I don't see a need to put so much activity in the atria (or plaza or foyer or whatever you want to call it). I much prefer that be done in lounges scattered throughout the ship). I sailed the Dawn with my family and my sister's teenage children and they didn't need the slides and other things. They just found other teenagers on the ship and made friends with them. Sorry to hear the food was bad. That's just one of those things. Any ship can have bad food or good food. The mass market lines seem to vary on the same ship with different sailings. Good to hear the musicians were good. I think the problem with cruising is theee are too many new ships and people keep wanting to go on the latest and "greatest" class. But I think theye're running out of ideas and the newer ships, like the Prima class, aren't that great. There are a lot of design errors in that ship class. And because they prioritize those ships, crews are being taken away from existing ships and the lines are spreading themselves thin. While the ship sounds well maintained the crew sounds overworked to give the service they're capable of.
I'm guilty as charged! We should have called this a mid-size ship. We thought that compared to most of the newer ships, it was a smaller ship--which still does not make the NCL Sky a "small" ship. Thanks for watching and contributing in such a meaningful way!
@@janandtraceytravels Everything's relative and in today's world, what was large is medium! I'm not sure how much bigger ships can get, though. We'll see.
What is the difference between stateroom & next level
Been on four Atlas cruises and agree with this couple’s comments. Except that the food on our cruises was really good, as were our servers. Our downs were their poor choice of land expedition partners in the Mediterranean and the absolutely abysmal internet/wifi package on all cruises. Would we cruise with them again - absolutely.
We literally disembarked the World Navigator yesterday from our 3rd cruise on the line. It was wonderful. Food was very good (although not perfect) and the Wi-Fi is still as disappointing as ever. However, they do now provide free WhatsApp which is a small improvement. The crew and the overall experience are still among the best we’ve ever sailed on.
What do people carry in their backpack when they walk around?
We usually have a bottle of water, a snack, battery pack, and some camera accessories.
Thank you so much for sharing! We are going this December on Atlas too. Can you share with us what you used to take videos? I see you have GoPro with you. Was that enough, or did you also take videos with your phones? Thanks!
For the landings, we each took a GoPro which we both used. Tracey brought her phone for pictures. Jan also brought his Canon R6 as well for some photography and videos. The GoPros were the primary video tools however. On the ship, our primary video device was a DJI Osmo Pocket 3 and Jan’s Canon R6. Truth be told, our phones could have done 90% of the job.
Thanks a lot, that’s very helpful 🙏
@@kuswadewikesiani1435 Glad it helped!
I sailed the Marina in 2019, and upgraded to a Vista Suite on my Transatlantic Cruise…it can cost up to $24,000 each in this category with the suite not even the biggest on the ship…decorated by Dakota Jones it spoiled us for all future cruises, although I write this from Explora 2 heading to Miami from Barcelona, and this ship is amazingly better in every way except for the impressive cabin. I felt on the Marina that the Concierge was helpful, but as you say, not necessary or in attendance at times,,,further the Butler flat out refused to offer dining from the signature restaurants claiming the distance would result in cold food, as the suite was at the front of the ship and the kitchens at the back…I think this was an important benefit to be dismissed by a lazy Butler after paying potentially $48,000 for a cruise. Red Ginger was by far the best restaurant, and the cooking class by Julia Childs Head Chef, awesome! Loved Jacques as well…the buffet with seating outside very good too. The cruise was marred by Norovirus, and it caused all sorts of restrictions to be in place that affected our cruise, but especially the library being closed for most of the cruise…The lazy Butler said our suites books needed to be sanitized before being displayed, but that happened just a few days before the cruise ended. I did a video of the cabin, with its terrace that could accommodate over 100 guests for a cocktail party, two jacuzzis, two fully marble bathrooms, 4 tv.s, a Picasso(really!) in the living room, and a private gym in the room. But do not know how to upload it here.
Wow! Excellent video! We'll be on the Explora 2 in Jan after our Oceania Vista cruise. I wonder what your thoughts are comparatively between the two.
We will be on the Explora 2 in February. So we would be interested in your thoughts as you’ll be in her a month before we will! 😎
Debating between the Prima or Getaway (Breakaway Class)- liked your review- good insight!
We’ve been on the Getaway before and will be back on in February. While things may have changed, we are currently more excited about our Getaway sailing. Thanks for watching.
hi where can i message you
You can send an email to jan@janandtraceytravels.com
I’m heading on the world traveler in December and this got me so excited!!! Any recommendations for clothing or items you wish you had?
You are going to have such a great time! We actually just got home from the World Navigator, where we were on the repositioning cruise from Montevideo to Ushuaia. In this video, right before the Polar Plunge, we listed the landing/Zodiac Cruise gear that we brought from home. Those are highly recommended. However, if you forget something, the ship's store will be more than thrilled to sell you what you need! An Atlantic cruise on Atlas is far more informal than most other cruises. We don't remember anyone getting dressed up for dinner--we certainly did not. The attitude is that we are all on this vessel on an adventure--the fussiness gets in the way. Bring a swimsuit. Even if you don't do the Polar Plunge (highly encouraged just for the experience), the ship has an incredible coed sauna with large windows facing the ocean, and the Traveler has one hot tub and a heated pool to relax in between sailings. What room type do you have? We had a B1 Veranda (room tour on our channel), and although our World Navigator B1 had shelves in the closet, our B1 Veranda on the World Traveler did not. This means there is a limited amount of space for folded clothes. Consider purchasing some magnetic hooks and a folding closet organizer. While the walls are not magnetic, the ceiling is. So we put two hooks on the ceiling and hung the closet organizer with shelves in some dead space. It'll sway horribly during the Drake Passage (if you nestle in a corner, it will sway less), but it buys back some additional storage space. When packing, think of where to pack your parka to take home! You'll see many people carrying their parkas onto the airplane as they had no room to pack it. We are so envious of you. On our cruise last week, we did a zodiac cruise of the Garibaldi Glacier, and our February experience rushed back over us. Have a fantastic time!
Do we get more from the yacht club, as would love to hear what’s included etc.have done Norwegian Haven and now going Oceania Marina transatlantic in a weeks time. Love your videos.
That's one of the great things about the Yacht Club. We might forget something, but here were the things that we were thrilled to receive as part of our base fare: --the Premium Drink Package --unlimited non-streaming internet service for what we think was 2 devices per person --Complimentary access to the thermal spa, which is very nice --Sparkling Wine in your room upon arrival --Your choice of liquor in your cabin (you'll butler will ask you for your selection) --Oh yeah, a butler! Even if you are in an interior room. --Access to the Yacht Club Concierge, who will make all your reservations. --Stocked mini-bar We've done the Haven on NCL several times and feel the Yacht Club gives you so much more. Enjoy the Marina, and thanks for watching!
Hi guys, Thank you so very much for your report. I am highly interested to travel to Costa Rica so I am searching about this beautiful country. Your information is very important for me and my wife. Thanks again.

I won $4 in the casino on the ship
That’s $4 more than we have ever won!
How were the landings via Zodiac boat? I just see myself unexpectantly going over the side like a diver.
To succinctly answer your question: Amazing! The boats are surprisingly stable. There is a rope that goes along each side of the boat that you can hold onto with in hand. If you still feel nervous, you can gently lean towards the center of the boat. After your first or second time out, you’ll be comfortable. We guarantee to refund your price if watching our video if you don’t! 😎
We like Viking. We're older and like the quiet slower nature of the cruise. I can agree that sometimes the food is better than other times but always good. If you like Broadway shows, it's not for you. Usually the entertainment group is talented, but often it's like a talented high school or college show. I tell people, the free excursion is meant to be an overview of the area. If you want to see it do anything specific, book and pay for that excursion. We have 2 more ocean and 1 river scheduled and can't wait.
If we do another world cruise, we’ve already agreed that we would want to go in Viking. No, we didn’t like the food, but everyone has said they have always enjoyed the food-so we are taking our one cruise as a one off experience. Loved pretty much everything else about it. Thanks for watching.
@@janandtraceytravels Don't know if you noticed but when reservation time comes along ahead of time, we often find that the good times are gone (for dining), plus we aren't foodies so we're never sure about the Chef's Table menu, so the first thing we do once boarding is go to the restaurant, check the menu, then go to our room and make reservations on the TV. I've heard it said that the online reservations are around 50% of the available tables, we've never not gotten a time we want - if there's anything we like to eat at the Chef's Table during the cruise.
Saw video’s. On May 22 2025 ocean view $5,000 + $1,400 delta 10 day cruise 16 day vacation.
Oh wow! Have a great trip. Just 7 months to go!
@@janandtraceytravels think prima a beautiful ship. But design for outside use. Small inside things shame Epic bigger but more on. Will, see how things go. Think two thousand on
Horrible review…..😅
I appreciate this very valuable information. You mentioned the amount of time on the bus. How long are you on the bus and are there restroom facilities on the bus.
It all depends on the excursion. We think we remember that Troy was about 2 hours away while Ephesus was about 45 minutes. On other cruises we’ve had bus rides which were nearly 2 1/2 hours. We don’t remember more than maybe one or two excursions in all of our cruises where there was a restroom on-board. However, there is nearly always a restroom stop at the hour mark. Understand that the tour operators are all different, so your experience may vary. Thanks for watching!
What were the solo cabins like on deck 3 near the mud room
We actually never have seen inside these rooms. Sorry.
Great tips. On the outlets, I think you meant there is only 1 US type outlet, the rest are European type outlets so you need an plug adapter. The photo you flashed are adapters and not voltage converters.
Yes, one 110 outlet. We didn’t mean to imply-if we did-that the adapters were converters as even with an adapter you will still be working with 220 voltage. Fortunately most things that we use-phone chargers, USB adapters, and computers are all 110/220 compatible. But you bring up an important point. Thanks for watching.
wonderful! Might I know how long could you go for onshore (by zodiac) per day? Is that 1 hr in morning and 1 hr in afternoon? Thanks
The landings were between about 60-90 minutes. Of course there was the prep-time in the mud rooms that added about another half hour. And yes, one landing/zodiac cruise in the morning and one in the afternoon. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the reply! So nice to hear that!
Good video!
It was great to meet you two during this sailing!
We look forward when we might share a ship again!
You were able to go to a wonder of the world, a privilege, an incredible journey.....and you are mad cause you had to specially order a burger. Ridiculous.
Reviews are always so subjective. We loved loved Manfredis- probably the best specialty restaurant we have ever had on any cruise. Ate there 9 times so far. Also love room service - but we always got the same things - burgers and spaghetti bolognese. It came within 20 minutes each time, but again, that is our experience from 3 Viking cruises. You got unlucky, but it can happen. I would try the food again on another cruise. It is truly one of the best things about Viking
That’s largely how we look at our experience. So many others have had your experience as opposed to what we had. Thanks for watching.
We were in this exact room the first of September. We are staying in another Int YC on Seashore in January, but this one will be an accessible room so a little bit more space.
That sounds great. It is a great value. Thanks for watching!
The ship looks elegant throughout! I hear there is a 1-1 ratio with staff, so poor service shouldn't happen. Most rave about Chartreuse, I'm in Quebec so I get enough french food. It does look like they just have tiny amuse bouche portions. I don't gamble or smoke. Pompeii-would love to see that! 10 grand is steep!
We believed eve the Splendor is the most elegant ship we’ve ever been on. Unfortunately, after 5 Regent cruises-including our very first cruise ever-Regent has largely priced us out of their market. Thanks for watching!
I think your room looked good. Food is No. 1 Booze is No. 2 If coffee is included in a drink package, it might be worth it-otherwise one might be tempted to drink too much trying to get their money's worth.
The room was fantastic. Fortunately all the non-alcoholic coffees are included regardless of whether you had a drink package or not.
@@janandtraceytravels Priced out, me I'm autistic condemned to a life of poverty. Never been on a cruise. When I lived in Victoria, I wished I could board ship in port just for a few hours, but it's the exclusive province of the rich. Doctors make $500K/yr and an equal amount at least in property appreciation.
Jan and Tracey, thank you for your very very helpful videos. Just binge-watched a couple of them and what I as a German appreciate the most is your honesty :) but being nuanced at the same time. My husband and I are childfree and we prefer our vacation to be the same (calm, classy, upscale). As far as I understand Viking is adults only for sure while Oceania isn't per sé but just doesn't cater to families, right? Can't wait to see what's next for you!
Very kind. We are actually leaving Frankfurt today after being able to observe German Reunification Day and a day in Heidelberg where we lived for three years. Vetters is still a great place to have lunch (and maybe a beer😎) We are off to London and then “beyond”. As for Viking, only if everyone is 18+ is it possible to accommodate families. Thanks again!
@@janandtraceytravels oh, what a small world :) Americans living in HD gives me U.S. Army vibes, is that right? (If yes: thank you for your service! Still grateful for our allies!) We lived in Heidelberg (so pretty) part-time for a little while and Frankfurt is our go-to airport... And if you'd ask me German beer is the best beer... Have fun in Europe and keep travelling! :) I personally prefer cruises with no children/ families. It's something hard to find with German cruise lines, American cruise lines are way more ahead in the game. They just don't advertise that much here.
As to US Army, absolutely. We were just talking yesterday that our tour in Heidelberg was the best of our careers. As for German beers, of course. We miss being able to go the the getränkemarkt! We think Viking will be perfect for you…although they are a bit more pricey. They are worth it. Thanks again.
@@janandtraceytravels Getränkemarkt LOL I bet you don’t miss Pfandflaschen though… :) Have a great trip „Beyond“, can‘t wait for that video!

Great content and beautifully shot! Keep it up!
Thank you so very much. You may not realize how motivated it is to get such kind words. Have 2 videos already edited and scheduled to release the next two Saturdays. Thank again.
Jan and Tracey Excellent work We are trying to decide on which company to use for our Antarctica exploration trip I have found that too many of the other channel Antarctica videos are just fluff You get right to the heart of what we need to know I am just starting my own RUclips travel channel you have given me some ideas on how to improve my channel videos Great job and keep up the good work
Fantastic! Atlas fit what we were looking for at a very favorable price. There are others worth considering such as Silversea and National Geographic. They tend to be quite a bit more expensive though. Thank you for watching and for the very kind words. We hope your channel takes off. Regardless, it’s a great way to capture your memories!
I am confused, dinner ends at 9 and the show starts at 9. Maybe don't go to dinner at 15 min. before 9. We never missed either. I do agree with the trivia comment. Chef table was a disappointment. I had to ask for sever 3 times and were on our 3 course before it came. Food was unforgettable. Manfredi's Rib Eye was merely OK but the pasta was very good. The Restaurant was the most consistent with good choices. The World Cafe was average.
Thanks for watching. We were with a group traveling and unfortunately we were eating a 8 (might have been 7:30) and the dinner service was not finished before we needed to head off from the show. You’re right that if we were traveling alone we usually eat earlier. Sorry the food seems to be as inconsistent as ours was. Thanks again for watching and caring enough to comment.
Thanks for a great informative video! You mention the size of the ship and landings as a highlight, how many landings were you able to do total? We are considering between Atlas and SilverSea and keen on doing more activities.
There were nine landings or zodiac cruises available, plus one overnight camping option. We did all but one, which was the morning we got back from camping. Generally, Atlas gives you the opportunity to do 2 landings/zodiac cruises per day. Due to the weather (we lost a day that delayed us moving toward the Drake Passage), we only had 4 full days in Antarctica, but the captain worked it out for us to get to Deception Island for one last landing before going back across the Drake. While we've never sailed on Silversea (we've done Regent several times, however), it was one of the options we were seriously considering before we saw the Atlas sailing--and the price. We're certain going on Silversea will be great. But it's quite a bit more expensive. We had such a magical time with such a great crew. We were very, very content. We have several other videos in the playlist that explain the pre-cruise experience, the crossing of the Drake, and our full experience in Antarctica, where you can see all of the landings we did. If you are between Atlas and Silversea, we think you are in between two very good choices. Thanks for watching. Let us know which you decide to take!
Thanks for the response! For some reason we are finding silversea available at roughly the same price but they have 250 guests onboard vs 150 on atlas. The cruise experience seems higher quality on the silversea but we are not sure if that comes at a compromise on activities and actual time on ground
You should never cut the patches in half 😱 It affects how the patch delivers the medication to your body and could lead to an overdose. Please don't!
Oh wow.! Very good to know. Do you know if they make full-sized patches at a lower dosage? Great information. Thanks for letting us know.
I am looking for advice... my partner & I want to take a world cruise. We were considering Viking 180-day cruise but saw your video about the food on the Viking Sky. It is so costly and to not have great food would be a waste! Would you suggest a different world cruise? This is a major decision/trip for us. We've only been on two cruises and each only being five days. How do you even plan for something that long? I would definitely need good wi-fi, is that achievable? So many questions. Is there a way to speak with you? Thank you for the great videos!
Great question. Let us try and put everything in perspective. 1. No, we were not that impressed with the food on the Viking Sky. However, we've heard many others who said that they thoroughly enjoyed the food. It is fully possible that our cruise was a one-off, and Viking's food is usually better (this was the only cruise we've done on Viking Ocean). 2. Remember, of the 180 days, Viking only has something like 45 sea days (which is a very, very good ratio). This means that over 3/4 of the days you'll be in a different port and have the opportunity to sample food from (literally) around the world. For us, even if the food is exceptional, we always like eating ashore if it is possible. 3. In 2023, we did a World Cruise on the MSC Poesia. This was not a ship where we would say the food was exceptional. With that said, we LOVED our experience. 4. While we will probably not be able to do another WC until we are old enough to begin pulling on our retirement funds, the cruise line that is #1 in mind is Viking. Beyond the food, the ship is so beautiful, and the spa is so wonderful that we see it as an exceptionally well-suited ship to spend six months on. 5. The value of Viking should not be overlooked. Especially with the included excursions in each port, it really is a very tempting decision. Bottom line: If food is really a deal breaker for you, look at other reviews and see what the consensus is of other prior Viking passengers. As we always note in our reviews, ours are only the observations of 2 people on one cruise. If ours is an outlier, we'd say book it! We think you'll have a wonderful experience. If the food is what we said it was, we'd probably seriously consider Viking. We love good food. But for our money, Viking's other positives largely outweigh the food. As for how to prepare, we'd recommend going on some longer cruises to see if you really think a WC is something that is good for you. 118 days and especially 180 days is a far different experience than a 5-day cruise. A transatlantic on Viking would be a great way to test the waters of a longer cruise experience and Viking in particular. Our memories of our Viking cruise was that the Wi-Fi was very good. However, be prepared that depending on where you are on the globe, the satellite coverage can be spotty. It's just something that comes with the territory of global cruising. We have written a few scripts about our WC experience and how to prepare for one, but we are fortunate to be traveling so much that we haven't had time to record and edit them. It is something we hope to accomplish sometime in the next year. Anyway, hopefully, this will give you satisfactory answers. Thanks for watching and for the kind words. Keep on traveling!
@@janandtraceytravels Oh my goodness, thank you so much for that reply and explanation. I really think others that read it will benefit as well! Happy Travels!!! Looking forward to watching what goes into the preparation!
Love your videos. Going on Marina in penthouse transatlantic in November. Two Norwegians living on Guernsey
Thank you so very much. We think you're going to love it!
I had only two issues with Prima eh. One, not every bar will make your drink and walk around the ship and suddenly you’re being told you’re in Haven territory you must leave and finding a place to sit and eat is challenging. Okay that’s 3. No WiFi in the buffet area would greatly help
We didn’t have the issue of straying into the Haven. But we’re glad that that and the buffet were your only issues. Thanks for watching!
Strange...normally you only pay the difference for the drinks on MSC.
We were surprised when that (only paying the difference) was the car on our recent Seashore cruise (upcoming videos). Maybe we just asked a crew member who was new and didn’t know better. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for the review. We will do ours soon.
Thanks. Hope yours is great!
