DIY: How I Discovered the Stone That Changed My Understanding of Beauty
"How I Found a Stone That Changed My Perception of Beauty"
One day, I went to a quarry where I usually gather material for my work. But that day, I was looking for something special, something that could tell its own story. And suddenly, I noticed it-a stone that seemed to glow from within.
It was unique: veins of malachite intertwined with golden flecks of pyrite, and its texture resembled frozen ocean waves. It was as if nature itself had created an abstract work of art on it. I even hesitated-should I cut it? But my hands were already burning with the desire to turn this find into something incredible.

Thank you for the suggestion-when I come across a suitable stone, I’ll definitely make one!
I love this bowl. You did amazing work.
Thank you so much!
Wonderful piece once again! I would love to watch tutorials from you. Seeing the quality of your work and knowing it’s created with hand held tools rather than ultra expensive commercial equipment is even more impressive. I’m just starting out as a hobbyist cutting and hollowing stones after limiting myself to sanding and polishing for some time. I started out doing everything by hand, chisels and sandpaper and a lot of elbow grease. Such a labor of love though slow going. I recently got a drill press (wow what a difference it makes being able to attach sanding tools to it!) a small bench grinder and a small disk/belt sander along with an angle grinder. I have bought a few attachments for the angle grinder and discovered the possibilities that exist when that tool is at my disposal. After watching what you and a small number of other people are able to accomplish with the tools I have at hand has given me the confidence to try cutting and hollowing out the stones I’ve only had a chance to se from the surface. I thought I had to wait until I got a lapidary saw before I could do more than simply polishing the surface of the wonderful stones I find near the rivers and streams around Northern California where I live. You have made it obvious that it doesn’t require thousands of dollars worth of tools and equipment and a huge workshop to produce wondrous pieces of art that are functional and unique. I started my love of rock hounding as a child and now in my 50’s I find it extremely therapeutic to go into the garage (workshop) to decompress after a long day at work. I have watched all of your videos and am always excited when you post a new one. The most recent one I know of came out today and at the end you asked for suggestions including the offer of tutorials. I would be so grateful if you made videos that teach your technique and make suggestions about tools and attachments (among other topics). Starting with the most important and/or necessary tools and skills and building from that foundation would be very appreciated and useful for me and, I presume, your other viewers. Thanks in advance for considering this and, fingers crossed, for teaching us some fundamentals including how to select a stone, how to make the most of it and show its full potential and the best tools for the job and how to use them effectively, efficiently and safely. I appreciate the time and effort you put into every video and work piece you produce and can’t wait for the next one to come out. Please keep it up and consider making tutorials to share your knowledge and love for rock/stone working.
Thank you so much for your kind words and for sharing your journey with stone working-it’s truly inspiring to hear how passionate you are about this craft! I’m thrilled that my work has given you the confidence to explore cutting and hollowing stones with the tools you have. You’re absolutely right; you don’t need expensive equipment to create something beautiful and unique. It’s all about creativity, patience, and a love for the process. I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed my videos, and I truly appreciate your suggestion about creating tutorials. It’s something I’ve been considering for a while, and your comment has motivated me even more. I’ll definitely start working on a series that covers the basics-from selecting the right stones and tools to techniques for cutting, hollowing, and polishing. Safety and efficiency will also be a big focus, as they’re so important in this craft. It’s amazing how therapeutic working with stones can be, and I love that you’ve found such joy and relaxation in it. Keep experimenting and pushing your skills-you’re doing incredible work! Thank you again for your support, and stay tuned for those tutorials. I can’t wait to share more with you and help you take your craft to the next level! 😊
Thanks so much for showing me and the rest of your viewers that you don’t need thousands of dollars worth of equipment and a huge workshop to produce wondrous pieces from river stones. I have been polishing some of the fantastic stones I find along the rivers and streams near my house in Northern California for some time now (I feel so privileged to have such beautiful rocks lying around just waiting to be discovered) but seeing the work you do gives me the confidence to try bringing my hobby , it’s so therapeutic, to the next level and begin cutting and hollowing some of the stones I’ve found. I started with nothing more than some sand paper and my two hands (wow what a labor of love it was!) and now I’m using a drill press with various tools and fittings I’m experimenting with. I just bought a few carving and polishing attachments for the angle grinder I recently got, some more successful than others however. Do you have any suggestions for the attachments you use? What are the most important and/or necessary ones to get first? Thanks in advance for any suggestions or guidance you can. I have been enjoying your videos ever so much and am always excited when I see a new video posted from you!
Thank you for your kind comment and for sharing your experience! It's truly inspiring to see how you're developing your hobby and experimenting with tools. As for the attachments for the angle grinder, I recommend starting with diamond cutting discs and grinding cups for stone processing-they are versatile and suitable for most tasks. It's also useful to have a set of rubber polishing pads with diamond coating for the final polish. I’m planning to record a detailed tutorial video soon, where I’ll break down the tools and attachments I use, to help fellow enthusiasts like you. Stay tuned for updates, and thank you for your support! 😊
So cool!! Can't wait til Spring so I can get back to my sink I'm doing...
That sounds so exciting! Spring is truly the perfect time for creativity and new projects. I’m sure your sink will turn out amazing! If you’re up for it, feel free to share your progress-it’s always fascinating to see how such ideas come to life. Good luck with your work, and may spring bring you inspiration! 😊

Hello from indonesia, may i know what liquid in the botle that you sprays before polishing the stone? Thanks
Hello. Chromium oxide
Hello, your work is great. I had a question. I would appreciate it if you could guide me. At minute 10 of the video, you apply a substance to the stone. What is this substance? And what is its use?
Hi, thank you so much 😌 This is chromium oxide, which reacts with the stone when heated and creates a gloss that occurs naturally and doesn’t fade over time.
Do you have Instagram??

I didn't know about this expression. Thank you so much! 😊
Hello, what is the name of that gray material that you apply to the stone and then grind it on a felt plate?
Hello, it's chromium oxide.
@@Ringstone-Handmade Thank you 🙏🙏
@@Ringstone-Handmade What is it for?
woftam - waste of F time
pleaaaase dont paint the logo on. leave it as natural as possible and just sandblast it on. this would give such a nice effect on these otherwise perfect pieces of art.
Thank you for the advice, but I won't make my works without a logo. This is my creation, and I fundamentally do not sell items without a logo.
@@Ringstone-Handmade no i meant you just sandblast it and leave it without the paint. That might make for a cool effect.
@sathingtonwilloughby6199 Sorry, I misunderstood you. Without paint, it's almost invisible, although the paint fades over time, leaving only the engraving. I do it without paint on black stone.
@@Ringstone-Handmade ok i understand. Anyway just my personal taste and a great piece.

What kind of grinding stone is needed, and what kind of diamond pad and polishing stone are needed? Please advise.
Hi. I will record such a video soon.
Hello, friend, can you tell me what tools are needed to make a stone sink?
Hi. I will record such a video soon.
What was the 1st disk you used?
Diamond disc for stone
@Ringstone-Handmade thanks. I thought it could be some kind of special flattening disk
How do you know that this stone is granite?
I check it beforehand.
Absolutely excellent, your work is very inspiring 🤜🏾🤛🏾💯💪🏾🔨🪨the best 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you so much 😀
If you use a proper water-grinder, there is no dust, less mess & polishes far quicker.
I've had different tools and different techniques, this one is the most optimal, thank you.
great video, fantastic sink...keep up the fantastic content and work!! what blade are u using...can the blade blow up?
Thank you very much. This is a diamond disc, it can shatter due to temperature changes. And I should add - since you're discussing diamond discs, please be very careful when using them. Proper safety equipment (especially eye protection) and following manufacturer guidelines for speed and temperature conditions is essential when working with these tools, as shattering can indeed be very dangerous.
Hey. :) I do these myself. After you drilled the hole, you switched to a wire brush on the outside (never seen that before - will try), and then you went back to the smoothing down the bowl. But I noticed you skipped a part. While doing the hole, the insides were still rough, but when you switched to the new pad @17:40, the inside was much smoother. Did you use a diamond blade for that? The wire brush wheel? Also, Im curious what type of pad you used at the 17:40 mark. A dry diamond pad? It seems like you also used a flexible backing pad too. Thanks!
Hi. Yes, I used a diamond disc. The attachment I used for cleaning the outside is a regular brush with fine wire. All my backing pads are flexible, this way the tool lasts longer.
Complain to RUclips. Did NOT RECOMMEND!
Ok 👌
Beautiful job. Please don't die young. Keep the mask on while blowing off the job.
