      "May I ask a quick question? I am reading your sunscreen recommendations on your website. Is it okay that the BaBo Sunscreen and Raw Elements contain oils like shea butter and sunflower oil? Also, when looking at sunscreen ingredients, what are the standout ingredients to avoid, and which are star ingredients I should look for?"

    • @madamewell
      @madamewell 3 месяца назад

      Unfortunately it's almost impossible to find a sunscreen that doesn't contain any 'risky' oils. However, the amount of oils present in the product in relation to the other compounds reduces the risk of sunscreen triggering a seb derm flare. Start with a small amount and if you feel your sunscreen is causing issues, try a different one. I prefer physical sunscreens due to the reasons I outlined in the article.

    • @madamewell

      Sage oil contains >50% LCFAs which feeds Malassezia so not recommended for seb derm. Generally speaking, applying any oil on your face just makes it oilier. It's not a treatment for seb derm or acne. Use an antifungal cream twice a day to treat seb derm. • @madamewell

      Yes to all of your questions but tea tree oil has better antifungal activity than rosemary oil. Both can be used on your scalp and face but rosemary oil has the anecdotal benefits of improving scalp/hair health. If you're looking to treat seb derm, oils are not as effective as an antifungal cream. Try mixing ketoconazole cream with a gentle moisturizer. Alternatively, try clotrimazole cream 1% which I feel is gentler on the skin. Vaseline isn't great for seb derm. These are the only carrier oils I recommend: madamewell.com/best-carrier-oils-seborrheic-dermatitis/ However, if your skin is already oily, sometimes using oil makes it worse. There are quite a few essential oils with antifungal properties (I have the list here: madamewell.com/best-oils-for-seborrheic-dermatitis/) but at the end of the day, antifungal cream is more effective than any essential oil. I'm not a fan of dead sea salt (or any other salt) mainly because it dries out your skin so much that you can rebound oiliness. I wrote a couple of articles about this awhile ago about Himalayan salt and sea water you may be interested in: madamewell.com/himalayan-salt-seborrheic-dermatitis/ madamewell.com/sea-water-seborrheic-dermatitis/

    Respectfully, SD comes from an overgrowth of yeast in the body. Candida. Eating sugar rich fruits is feeding the internal yeast overgrowth. I understand that fruit sugar and processed sugar are completely different but in the initial stages of trying to eliminate yeast overgrowth, wouldn’t you curb the fruit?

    • @madamewell
      @madamewell 7 месяцев назад

      SD is affected by a yeast called Malassezia, which is totally different from candida. Malassezia feeds on oils (your sebum) rather than sugar. A high intake of sugars from processed foods can increase sebum production but a moderate amount of sugar from fruits doesn't increase sebum production. Plus, fruits contain lots of other compounds like polyphenols, antioxidants, etc. which helps your gut microbiome, repair your cells and improve your immune system. Hope this helps.

    • @madamewell
      @madamewell 7 месяцев назад

      Shampoo that contains SLS doesn't treat seb derm. Use an anti-dandruff shampoo on your chest instead. You can find my recommendations here: madamewell.com/best-shampoo-seborrheic-dermatitis/ Leave it on for a few minutes and wash off. Another option is to apply an antifungal cream twice a day. For example, clotrimazole cream: amzn.to/4bXxCqD

    • @madamewell

      I haven't used the shampoo before but looking at the ingredients, it doesn't contain any anti-fungal compounds. It also lists sodium laureth sulphate as one of the first ingredients which I don't like in my personal care products. I would still recommend the shampoos I listed in my article but if it's working for you and you don't mind the SLS, you can obviously continue using it.

    How to treat hair loss with seb derm?

    • @madamewell
      @madamewell 7 месяцев назад

      You treat the underlying cause - the seb derm. Here is the link to an article about my favorite anti-dandruff shampoos: madamewell.com/best-shampoo-seborrheic-dermatitis/ but start with whatever you have at home first. Rosemary oil is supposed to help with hairloss and seb derm so maybe go for one with added rosemary oil.

    Elaborate on fried food. That include high fat ground beef fried in its own fat?

    • @madamewell
      @madamewell 7 месяцев назад

      Saturated fat (even from high quality meat)can cause your glands to produce more sebum that feeds Malassezia. Having said that, everyone is different. If you think fried food is making things worse for you, give it a break for a few weeks.

    • @madamewell
      @madamewell 7 месяцев назад

      Why don't you continue doing the elimination diet while applying an antifungal cream twice a day (have you done that?). The diet may not flare your rash if your Malassezia population is under control. Carnivore diets are not meant to be long term (IMHO) so hopefully you'll be back to eating a balanced diet soon :)

      The dose makes the poison. If you have most of these things as a small part of a healthy diet, it should be fine. It's only a problem if these 'bad stuff' make up the majority of your diet. I don't usually recommend using oils as a moisturizer unless you have dry skin. And if you're using oils, maybe only use one or two essential oils because too many active essential oils can be irritating and cause more inflammation. Gentle does it :)

    Apple cider vinegar gets rid of it in a week, mix 1/2 cup of water and a quarter cup of ACV. Rinse on hair and leave to sit overnight. Then wash hair and face. Repeat 3 times a week and it’ll be gone by following week

    Thank you for all your information. Have been doing lots of research on behalf of my daughter who has had eczema since she was a child (now in her 20’s) and within the last couple of years has worsened and within the last couple months, separate dermatitis has entered the picture. We did try Nizarol shampoo which has zinc. My daughter said it was such an improvement so we are trying out new avenues, such as taking the niacinamide, zinc (internal/external) fungal creams. There has been improvement. Will try the niacinamide starting today. Hopefully will have a review in the next few weeks. Thank you again.

      If your daughter's skin is already inflammed from eczema and seb derm, probably best to start with a lower strength of niacinamide 5-10% instead of 20% as it may sting.
